Powered by Mom's Birthday Came Early  - Reviewing the Fujifilm FinePix XP120 Camera

I received the rugged, waterproof FinePix XP120 camera just before my birthday

I can't tell you how excited I was to receive Fujifilm's latest rugged, waterproof point and shoot camera the FinePix XP120. I've only had it for a few days as I write this but oh what fun I've been having! If you don't already know you will soon enough that my family and I are gadget geeks. Whether it's related to gaming, computers, cameras or really anything tech related, we love it. Of course I take a lot of photos, it comes with the job between recipe, travel and lifestyle photos. Not to mention driving my family crazy by snapping every family fun moment I can. The Fuji FinePix XP120 comes in four colors – blue, sky blue, green and yellow. I got the blue one and love it!

I headed out to the forest near my house to try out the FinePix XP120

I started the love affair with Fujifilm last year when we had fun with their Instax Share SP-2 Printer and their Mini 8 Instax Camera. Both so much fun but I really fell in love with their mirrorless camera the X-A3. It's now my main go-to camera when I want to take amazing photos whether it's for the latest recipe, event or when travelling. You can find out why I love it so much HERE.

1) Large 3.0 inch 920K-dot LCD Monitor

As you can see on the photo below, the screen shows you a clear and crisp scene to help you take the photo you want. I was using the Scene Recognition Auto Mode below which takes fantastic photos. Literally point and shoot equals great photos.

2) Rugged and Waterproof

The Fuji FinePix XP120 is one rugged compact camera. It's waterproof to o 65 feet \ 20 meters, shockproof to 5.7 feet \ 1.75 meters, freeze proof to 14°F \ -10°C and dust proof! So for this camera I don't mind if my teenager borrows it, I won't even watch over her while she uses it like I do when she borrows my Fuji X-A3 mirrorless camera. While we haven't yet had a chance to go to the beach with it and test it out underwater we did run a hose over it. Oh yes we did. It's not a very exciting video but you can see it below. After letting it dry we tested the camera again and it's all working fine. In fact we did the Moving photo shown below after it was dried out.

3) Special Features: Cinemagraph Mode - Moving Photos

This produces still images with moving parts. I still have to practice this one as the moving photo below was my first attempt but you get the idea of what it does. I can't wait to try this one out some more!

4) High Performance Sensor and Lens for Amazing Photos

The FinePix XP120 has 16.4MP back-illuminated CMOS sensor and FUJINON 5x optical zoom lens that includes a 28mm wide-angle setting, This is a big factor in capturing amazing scenic shots! Just look at the vibrant greens, the sunshine coming through the trees and more in the photo below. Again this was just with the Scene Recognition Auto Setting.

The Finepix XP120 also has an optical zoom range that can be doubled to 10x with Intelligent Digital Zoom technology. The FinePix XP120 has has an image stabilization function which minimizes any camera shake effects.  I zoomed in on our dog LZ pictured below from about 12 feet away from him. Again look at all the details and vibrancy of the colours! I'm thrilled with this camera.

5) Shooting Features - Oh so many

There are so many shooting features that I could go on and on but I will try not to. I do love that this FinePix XP120 had some of the same shooting features as my Fuji X-A3. So as I was already familiar with some of them it was easy for me to try them out. I love the sports feature when you can capture photos of a moving subject. Paired with the burst mode of up to 10fps or the Advanced Burst Mode capable of shooting at up to 60 fps you can snap a ton of photos in a short amount of time of a moving subject.

I snapped a photo of hubby and our dog LZ running in the forest. Imagine though getting photos of your kids at their soccer game, swimming and more! There are also underwater modes including an underwater macro mode for close up shooting.

6) Versatility

Part of the charm of this camera is it's versatility. It's a great option for family outings, vacations, everyday use or when you don't want to lug a big camera around. You'll still capture some great photos. I love using the SR mode as mentioned and ones like the one for taking vivid shots of flowers.

Not only did I get some lovely colours in this photo, it was pouring rain out and so I got raindrops on the flowers.

Here's another fabulous example of the stunning photos you can take with the FinePix XP120. Vibrant colours with great details! Love those raindrops.

7) More Fun Features - Partial Colours, Miniature & More!

I have to admit this is one of my favourite features because it's so much fun! You can create some rather artistic photos. You'll find these in the advanced shooting features but they are so easy to use. You can have partial colours in the photo (Red/Orange/Yellow/Green/Blue/Purple) where the rest is in black and white. This is a favourite of mine.

Here's one example. The top left image is in full colour and from there I do green, red and then yellow.

How about just purple?

Maybe you would like just yellow?

Let's do orange now.

Let's make everything look miniature! It's a fairy forest 🙂

I told you I have way too much fun with this camera! There are so many more shooting features that are a ton of fun and very useful too. Yo'll have to check them all out HERE. One worth mentioning which I haven't really show is the Full HD Movie recording. Thanks to the CMOS sensor, the FinePix XP120 can shoot 1920 x 1080-pixel full HD video. A dedicated movie recording button makes it easy to switch to movie recording mode with a single touch. It also has some advanced movie-editing features.

I can't but help and share another photo!

8) Wireless connectivity & FREE Fujifilm Apps

Everyone loves this features. The camera supports direct Wireless transfer of images to the instax SHARE printer for instant printout and sharing on the spot. Enjoy instax prints at parties or on vacations, and share them with your family and friends instantly. Photos can be transferred to your smartphone or tablet by simply pressing the Wi-Fi button on the camera. There's no need to enter a user ID or password; this is an easy and convenient function for when you want to quickly share your pictures on social media or by email. Just use the cool and FREE Fujifilm Apps.

  1. This looks like a great camera, and the pictures look great. My first digital camera was a Fuji. But I just bought a new camera last month, because I wanted one with a really powerful zoom. If I hadn't bought that one, I would have considered this one.

  3. I really like that you tested to see if the camera is actually waterproof. I've purchased several items in the past that claimed to be waterproof, only to be proven wrong with just a few raindrops! Good to know that these cameras really are as durable as they say!

  12. I love the large screen size in the back. My camera is so old, that the screen is relatively tiny in comparison. The close-ups, zoom, and action photos look fabulous. I'm not much for the partial color feature. I probably wouldn't use it. But I'd try it for fun. My daughter would love it, though. Overall, it looks really sturdy and rugged. I'm hard on my electronics, so this would be a great camera for me.

The detail you captured in the picture of the trees is amazing! I appreciate that it is also waterproof and shockproof because accidents do happen. I did not immediately realize waterproof also means you can take photos under water. How awesome!
