Powered by Mom brings you a review of the Asus Transformer Book T100

It's a laptop and tablet in one!

We were lucky enough to receive an Asus Transformer Book from BuyDig.com, and can’t wait to share our thoughts with you on this amazing device!

Asus Transformer Book T100

BuyDig.com has an amazing variety of products and accessories. From to cameras to carry-on, to 2-in-1’s, tablets, TV’s, and so much more! I love to "window shop", and as I am a total tech geek, it’s good to know that BuyDig.com has the latest and greatest in tech. The Asus Transformer Book is just one example of the fabulous type of technology available at BuyDig.com. In this house we are big fans of BuyDig.com as they always have what we’re looking for and the prices are ALWAYS very competitive.

Asus Transformer Book T100

Fortunately for me, I received my Asus Transformer Book just in time for my business trip. Weighing in at less than three pounds the Asus Transformer Book T100 is perfect for taking on the road. It's not heavy, it's compact, it has its own keyboard, and it can be a tablet when and where I need it to be. It also comes with MS Office and Windows 8.1, which in and of itself is quite the value! I haven't figured out how to use Office Offline on the Transformer Book, but I'm hoping I will soon. I'm just happy that it has Windows and Office. Even though I love Apple, it would be too expensive for me to get an iPad of the same size with a keyboard (which I need for my work when I travel), along with a few other necessities. For its value, and what you get, the Asus Transformer Book is a great option! I love it! 🙂

Asus Transformer Book T100

Until I got my Asus Transformer Book, I didn't even realize it came in red, and since I love the color, I was pleasantly surprised! Now it will be easy for me to spot my little Transformer Book amongst the sea of black laptops.

The Asus Transformer Book has one USB port. I would have liked at least two, but sometimes, especially when you have such a powerful machine in such a small form factor, you have to compromise and this is not unusual in portable machines. Also, to access the USB port, you have to have the tablet portion attached to the keyboard.

As a tablet, it has a lot of great features. This includes a 10.1 inch screen. Naturally, it's a touch screen ... otherwise it couldn't be a tablet. 🙂 I find it quite responsive, but funny enough I find it heavy to hold. I have small hands, though, so anything bigger than my 7" Samsung seems heavy to me.

Powered by Mom's thoughts...

I've already expressed how I like the portability of the Asus Transformer Book. That it has Microsoft Office 2013 pre-installed and how I would love if it had more one USB port but I will take the portability and flexibility of this machine over anything, which it delivers in spades. Some of my other thoughts are geared more toward those with bigger hands (mine are quite small). Simply put, those with larger hands may find the keyboard to be a bit more challenging but again remember it’s meant to be a small machine that you can take anywhere. I suggest thinking about how you want to use this device and why it’s important to you prior to purchasing. The touch pad area has been easy to use, no issues with it at all although, I do prefer to use a mouse when I can – that's my personal preference.

The camera provides your basic functions, it’s perfect for Skype and any video conferences, if you want to take a selfie but it’s still a tablet/laptop camera. I don’t find for any tablet or laptop that I use the camera much for pictures.  It's not what I would rely on for an important video or picture, but I think of it as a bonus. 🙂 It will certainly do for any video conferencing.

Asus Transformer Book T100

The speakers sound great for its size, and it gives me what I need – a little music here and there, like if I'm working and of course I can watch movies in my down time. It also comes with unlimited Asus Web Storage for one year, which can be very handy if you have lots of files like I do.

Overall, I think that the Asus Transformer Book will work extremely well for me as a travel laptop. It has everything I need – it's portable, it's versatile, since it transforms from a notebook to a tablet, and it has MS Office. For its price and capabilities ($300-$400), it has enough of the same and in some cases more than your average notebook for a fraction of the price. It’s perfect for me for travelling and for my husband when he’s on the road going from job site to job site. I really like using the tablet function, it’s surprisingly a great tablet in my humble opinion.

Asus Transformer Book T100

I'm extremely happy with it and can't wait to take it on my upcoming trip!

  8. I REALLY REALLY Need and Want one of these (or something very much like it. ) Let me start by saying I've been trying to decide between getting a new laptop or a new tablet (and I was going to start by shopping at BuyDig) ~ but here's the thing: "new" is a misnomer ~ I've had an "old" (or any one) of EITHER of these devices ~ I am still shackled to my big, clunky, slow, obsolete DESKTOP computer that I won in an essay writing contest back in 2007!!! It's a disaster.

So anyway, I really appreciated your very thoughtful and informative review. I guess I am a tiny bit concerned by your comment about the lack of USB ports ~ and like you, I do prefer using a mouse (probably because I'm used to it!) but the price is right and the weight and size is too (it is so much lighter than my husband's VERY heavy laptop!

Thanks again for the great review!

  97. For more available USB ports I'd recommend investing in a USB Hub. They are quite cheap and there are some that you plug in straight into the usb port (there is only 1 on the Transformer Book).

The only con being that it's more added equipment to carry around. Anyways nice review :).

  100. First off, I appreciate your noting the T100's limitations like just 1 USB port and the smallish keyboard. However, your review notes plenty of features to recommend it as a nice portable laptop/tablet. I find the battery life, windows 8.1, Bluetooth 4.0, and stylish appearance all nice pluses. I enjoyed reading about it.

  101. I never knew something could be so awesome and compact at the same time. Less than 3 lbs, but it's also a laptop and tablet in one? I need that in my life! The perks are the wireless and long battery life.

  102. The points you bring up concerning the portability of the ASUS are the same reason I bought their laptop. What I discovered is the laptop is now stationary on my desk and I'm looking for the transforming tablet

  104. Boy I would love having this. It would be so nice to be able to move around instead of sitting at my computer all day. My grandchildren would love it to do some of their homework on. I also love how lightweight it is.

  106. Love that it is a duo (used as tablet and laptop) . And the size, love the weight of it. This would be great for our family for one that likes tablets and the other that finds it more comfortable to use a laptop.

  109. Thanks for a review that really explains a 2 in 1. I love how it is versatile and so light weight! Not like a bulky laptop that seems to weigh a ton at times! I might put it on my birthday list this year...it's time for a new laptop anyway!

  110. I love how light it is and that it comes apart to be used like a tablet, but there's a keyboard if you need it. I have a smaller tablet and it drives me crazy trying to type on it. The reading mode sounds great. I have chronic migraines and struggle to combat eye strain.

  111. i learnt that the laptop has 10.1 inch screen and the touch screen is quick in response and also the fact that it transforms from a notebook to a tablet.

  112. I love that the battery lasts for 8 hours, which would allow me to use it while I'm flying if I need to. I also love the 64 GB of storage since my current tablet only has 16, which is woefully inadequate!

  114. I love that it is both a tablet and a computer! The touch screen would be different to get use to, but at the same time it would be similar to using a smart phone. It is light weight, and comes in a fun color Red, instead of black.

  115. One of the programs I use a lot is the Microsoft Office and I was thrilled to learn that the ASUS Transformer Book T100 came preloaded with the Microsoft Office. That would be a selling point to me.

  119. I have to say this sounds like a dream. All the power in a little package that makes "travel" a dream that doesn't look like it would turn into a nightmare ... and yes having a nice red color does make it stand out in a crowd

  121. The Asus Transformer Book T100 looks like a great laptop. I think the best feature of this laptop is its ability to transform from a laptop to a tablet. I'd love to have one of these, thank you for sharing this review.

  123. I love everything about this! I love that it's touchscreen and comes apart. I've never had a laptop and I've been trying to win one since I can't afford one. This is so perfect for me. I have to sit at my desk since I have a PC. I don't mind b/c I love my computer but my chair is in desperate need to be replaced.
I like that it comes in red too 🙂

  125. This sounds like a really nice little laptop/tablet. I agree with you about a second USB port but I love the fact that it has good sound and a touch screen. It is also great that you can get it in a color. Very neat little contraption.
