Powered by Mom Blog and family are at it again!
We are doing home renovations again this year and boy oh boy what a mess it is! Last year we did a lot of work on our front yard and the driveways, the year before that we did our downstairs kitchen and bathroom and now we’re working on our main bathroom.
Our main bathroom is quite small so that really we can only have two guys in there at a time working otherwise it’s too crowded. Fortunately my husband has had some help so far from friends. We are lucky to have such good friends who also know what they’re doing along with my husband’s knowledge. I have to admit I’m not much help as it’s dusty like crazy and I’m extremely allergic to dust, I have bad wrists and knees due to my arthritis so I’m kind of not very helpful with these renos so far. I will be able to help with the painting and I’m keeping the guys in coffee and food lol and of course I’m the one who wanted to change the bathroom!
The bathroom did need updating as my mother-in-law had “helped” us a few years ago and put wallpaper up in it while we were away among a few other things so things were peeling, chipped etc.. The main thing we are finding like with all renovations is to be organized and have a plan. You can’t be too organized amongst the chaos that’s for sure! We have everything from the bathroom in our daughter’s playroom which is really a spare bedroom. Who knew so much was actually stored in a bathroom!
Here’s a sneak peek of how it looks right now. I forgot to take a before picture, I always forget but this is the in the midst of picture
. The green is not actually the color we had in the bathroom that’s the new drywall hubby put up.
Here’s the vanity we are going to eventually put in. I wish my bathroom was as big as the one in this picture now that’s a bathroom
I’m trying to picture this beauty in my bathroom with the new colors hopefully it will all come together. I will write another post as we get closer to finishing. What types of home renovations have you done and what has been your biggest challenge or success? I’d love to hear from you!

Our bathroom like yours is too small I would love to redo the whole thing but there just isn’t anything that can be done to make it better without tearing out walls but I love your ideas!
MUCH SUCCESS WITH YOUR RENOVATIONS..THANK YOU FOR THIS
I like the renovations and I too am doing bathroom renovations
Great colors!
I wish I have that kind of bathroom since I hate mess so I don’t like to remodel it
Maybe someday LOL
I hate the mess of remodeling but the end result always looks amazing!!
good luck with your renovations!!!..thank you
What an awesome vanity you’ve chosen! I can’t wait to see how it all comes together! Great job so far!
thanks Kimmy
I LOVE the vanity you have chosen.
I Like what you have done it does take a lot to consider when remodeling anything but, being the bathroom to me I would surely put a lot of time and effort since we spend quite a bit of time in there. The colors to me are what one likes but, also the size of the bathroom has a lot to do with this as it can make it smaller or larger. The fixtures are something else to consider we all have such varied tastes but, it can really make a bathroom come alive. Toilet, tub and sink oh yea since they come in different sizes shapes and colors I see its a lot of work. Congrats on being able to do this work and hope it turns out well for you.
Thanks Diana we are getting closer to finishing
Love a remodeled bathroom!!
It will all be worth it again. You are very lucky that you are able to do this – I live in a ratty little apartment, and I’m not allowed to renovate (even if I had the money to do it).
You did a beautiful job in redoing your bathroom tile. I am now redoing our bathroom flooring, vanity, and toilet.
It’s so worth it when you get to the end result.
Wow !!!! what a great job you did ,my did not turn out this goog.O well.
Cracking up @mother in law “helping” you out while you were away………………….with wallpaper, no less, lol. Our house was always papered when I was a child. And changed often. And you’re indeed very lucky to have friends to help you out with your renovations. Your friends will NOT do shoddy work & they will not take advantage of you financially. Best wishes! Can’t wait to see the end result!
lol Gerri
now that Vanity is beautiful…my type of bathroom…very nice
thanks LaShelle I can’t wait until it’s done with the new paint color and all the finishing touches.
I love the vanity! Now I think I just may do some renovations myself!
I love the vanity, now I want one like it!
Thanks for sharing, will be awesome to see finished project!

So awesome. We are working on our floors right now! It’s alot of work
Worth it in the end though.
Possibly looking to redo our bathroom! Loved your ideas, may use some of them.
Renovating needs a of patience and money. I like. the vanity
Home renovations are so worth it. I like taking before and after pictures – then years later you can think “WOW – we really did good that time.
you are going to be so happy and pleased with the finished results…love the color of cabinet with the wall color together!
Nice Vanity Lots of work but it will be really nice. We will redo ours some day, lots of money…..Good Luck
I love the vanity that you have picked out.I would like to do some bathroom renovations myself, but first thing I want is hardwood floors in my whole house.Good luck I can’t wait to see it finished.
Love that vanity! can’t wait to see a final shot!
renovations can be draining but fun too awesome review and cant wait to see the finished project
I love your ideas and can’t wait to see the final reveal.
Thanks Joy, we’re getting closer and closer
I dl like the green for this bathroom however, I would suggest going lighter to give the look of bigger space.
I love the idea can’t wait to see the final touch.
looks like quite the project… can’t wait to see the finished product.
love this tile…
Can’t wait to see the finished pictures, Im looking for ideas to redo our bedroom finally got the hubby to let me add some color on the walls ,just hoping that our remodeling goes smoothly and doesn’t break my budget
change is good and so is renovation….thanks
Amazing renovation! Love the dark cherry wood! You’ve inspired me to begin our bathroom renovations
Good luck, home renovations are tough, but soo worth it! I’m sure its going to turn out great!
I can’t wait to see your finished product. It all looks good so far.
We are also renovating, we are always renovating something. I live in a 1827 old quaker school house so there is always something that needs to be done. Can’t wait to see all your after photos..good luck.
I am just itching to remodel my downstairs bathroom. It is hideous! Pink walls and an 80′s theme! Thanks for the inspiration! Maybe I’ll get the courage to just do it!
We recently did our little bathroom downstairs. We tiled, painted, replaced the vanity and toilet, and molding. It was a fun redo for me and my husband. We have so many more projects to tackle.
i love the bathroom
We have to replace the toilet in our bathroom, and I LOVE this tile!
i love that bathroom tile
i bet that is alot of hard work, but i know when u get done it’s gonna look great….Good Luck
I love what you are doing to your bathroom, when my husband was living we did a lot of bathroom
remodeling. It is a hard job, but well worth it in the end.
Looks great so far love the tile you picked out. I wish I had the time to get my bathroom done!
I look forward to the after photos! I love the vanity!
I would so love to do this. I just don’t have the money
I know how it’s like to have a dust allergy! Mine is horrible when I’m around it, I just can’t function! I think doing your part in making sure there’s snacks for the workers is perfectly fine! Not gonna lie, I had to smirk at your mother-in-law’s “helped” comment! LOL! Bless them for trying to help! You really can’t be too organized that’s for sure. We just painted one of our bathrooms and it took a lot of organization just to move everything out, tape the panels and then paint! I mean just picking the color was a huge decision. The vanity you chose is gorgeous! I hope everything goes according to plan! Thanks for sharing!
I like what you are doing good luck
Good luck! We went through an extensive remodel a few years back — what a job! Not really something I’d like to go through again. Ha. It will be so beautiful when you’re finished! I absolutely love that vanity!
That’s a great vanity! Glad to hear your husband and friends know how to DIY. That should save quite a bit of money!
a robins egg blue is a nice color
It’s going to look great I bet!
I just saw the tiles you are using, I love those. would like to do those in my powder room one day
Looks like you have WAY more energy the I have!!! Lots of hard work. But the end will be so nice!!
The person I rent from is planning on making renovations to the bathroom where I live. I was laughing as I read your post. I do not know if I am ready for this.
I love you new colors, this is the same color I want in my master bath one day
good luck! its going to look great! cant wait to see it finished!
Love the cabinet!! I would love to gut out both of my bathrooms and redo them, but we live in an apartment so we can’t do anything but change paint and the decor
Good luck and I can’t wait to see the finished product
Looks wonderful. We are in the process of redoing our bathroom in the master bedroom .
my bf and i just bought a house in october.. we have not done any house reno’s yet but we will be soon and i’m loving your blog for it!! thank you soo much!!
I love renovations!! Can’t wait to see after pics!
having done so many renovations- the best advice you gave was definitely have a plan!
We just had to replace a toilet and all the fittings and some pipes under it. Can you believe that amazon.com sells toilets. Bought from them, an American Standard, for less than home depot or lowes, plus got it with two days free shipping, compared to $50/$75 shipping to get it in a month from the other stores.
Thanks for the share Aria good to know!
Remember that you are also lucky in that you have the ability to renovate anything at all, rather than have to just live with what you feel is old and out-dated. Some of us cant even get to that point. Hope it turns out how you want it to:)
Thanks for the awesome college giveaway….
I hope that you post after pics of your bathroom reno. We redid our bathroom last year and finally – just got a frameless glass shower installed. We also bought a 1922 cottage that we completely gutted. I hate renos. I have advice though – when it gets too stressful go for a walk. Renovations can be very stressful when you are doing them yourself.
I wish I had the courage to renovate. My husband and I are not real handy around the house when it comes to home repairs and of course the budget doesn’t allow for a professional to do it. I applaud you for this undertaking.
I love the after photos. I know what it is like to redo a room, we gutted our house 5 years ago and are still putting the finishing touches on rooms. Great job!
I hope you post after pictures when you are done. I know remodeling the bathroom isn’t always a fun job dealing with plumbing and electrical. I redid my bathroom last year and the hardest part was picking a new sink me and my Husband could agree on .
Gotta love helpful family members.Heehee! We’re getting ready to start re-doing our upstairs and I’m so not looking forward to it. Our house is old with nice hard wood flooring but poorly insulated. It’s almost paid off so it makes sense to update to our liking and stay here.
The vanity is beautiful! Can’t wait til we get our own home!
Bathrooms are one of the most frustrating things to renovate just because of the inconvience, but I’m sure it’ll be worth it in the end. Looking forward to seeing the results, love the vanity you chose!
It is absolutely stunning!!! Good luck and have fun!!!
Your renovations look and sound great, You’ll really enjoy it once it’s done. Redoing a bathroom is worth every cent and all the mess! Wish I could do mine. I tried putting washers in the sink. Now I had to cut the water off! I can’t turn it off! I’m not a plumber. Good lick with everything!! I can’t wait to see your finished pictures.
Oh I don’t envy you at all! We also plan on totally tearing out our 60yr old main bathroom…..let’s say, I CAN wait
I’m not thrilled with what’s involved!!
That’s a beautiful vanity, good luck and keep us updated
Home Renovations Here We Go Again – I really like the green color you have in the bathroom – hope all goes well for you
You have gorgeous taste. We want to start renovating our bathroom and I know its going to be a huge project, its hard to find the time too. I can’t wait to see more photos from you and may god bless you
Man… I hate renovating. It is exhausting.
Exciting! I always love renovation projects… when they’re done.
I love the vanity you’ve chosen. It’s beautiful!
Our best project so far was our family room/ office area. It went from looking like something from the Brady Bunch household to a lovely modern space. My husband doubted me on choosing green for the walls and wanting to paint the trim white, but once it was done it became his favorite space and he gave me full creative control over the rest of the house.
My husband and I do this type of work. It looks like your hubby is doing a great job! I learnt from my hubby and I am glad I paid attention, because there are things now I can do on my own. I love the vanity you have picked out. It is Gorgeous! I look forward to seeing it when it is done!!!
we just had our bathroom done also good luck it is alot of work it took them a week to get done with our bathroom
You are one brave lady to deal with a reno! I just don’t have that kind of patience. The cabinet that you picked out is just lovely. Hope you will post more pics!
good luck, I know how much work is involved!
we are going to renovate our small main bathroom this spring…ill be keeping up with your progress….its exciting and scary at the same time…
I live in an apt. I can’t do any renovations. Yesterday my maintenance men took my ugly and old glass shower doors off. It makes the bathroom look more open. It’s small but it’s just me so it’s fine. They put in some safety bars b/c due to major back issues that effect my balance I needed to be safe so that’s why I’m getting some new things in there.I bought a hand held shower head,it’s so cool! I got myself a stool to sit on,now I don’t have to worry about falling.
My dad builds houses and I’ve seen lots of renovations being done. It’s a long process but in the end it’s so worth it. I love that bathroom in the picture. Good luck with your bathroom.
Good luck with your projected love to see it when you are finished.
i wish mine was as big as that bathroom too!
Good luck on the bathroom renovations
I know its a lot of work, but so worth it!!
Lucky you Mom = need that myself. Will we get to see it all? Love to see finished product!
yep I will post pictures of the finished look for sure Susan
You must be so excited to have this project underway! We bought a new house recently so I have all kinds of projects swirling around in my mind – the first being the kitchen. So much work, but it’s so worth it in the end! The cabinetry you picked out is beautiful! Sending good thoughts your way for a speedy reno! BTW, better take the keys away from your mother-in-law when you’re done so you don’t come home to any more wallpaper surprises! Lol!
I’m very excited thanks Lori
lol my mother-in-law lives too far away now so we don’t have to worry.
