Home Renovations Here We Go Again

Powered by Mom Blog and family are at it again!

We are doing home renovations again this year and boy oh boy what a mess it is! Last year we did a lot of work on our front yard and the driveways, the year before that we did our downstairs kitchen and bathroom and now we’re working on our main bathroom.

Our main bathroom is quite small so that really we can only have two guys in there at a time working otherwise it’s too crowded. Fortunately my husband has had some help so far from friends. We are lucky to have such good friends who also know what they’re doing along with my husband’s knowledge. I have to admit I’m not much help as it’s dusty like crazy and I’m extremely allergic to dust, I have bad wrists and knees due to my arthritis so I’m kind of not very helpful with these renos so far. I will be able to help with the painting and I’m keeping the guys in coffee and food lol and of course I’m the one who wanted to change the bathroom!

The bathroom did need updating as my mother-in-law had “helped” us a few years ago and put wallpaper up in it while we were away among a few other things so things were peeling, chipped etc.. The main thing we are finding like with all renovations is to be organized and have a plan. You can’t be too organized amongst the chaos that’s for sure! We have everything from the bathroom in our daughter’s playroom which is really a spare bedroom. Who knew so much was actually stored in a bathroom!

Here’s a sneak peek of how it looks right now. I forgot to take a before picture, I always forget but this is the in the midst of picture icon smile Home Renovations Here We Go Again . The green is not actually the color we had in the bathroom that’s the new drywall hubby put up.

Here’s the vanity we are going to eventually put in. I wish my bathroom was as big as the one in this picture now that’s a bathroom icon smile Home Renovations Here We Go Again

I’m trying to picture this beauty in my bathroom with the new colors hopefully it will all come together. I will write another post as we get closer to finishing. What types of home renovations have you done and what has been your biggest challenge or success? I’d love to hear from you!

  10. Diana Beatty says:

I Like what you have done it does take a lot to consider when remodeling anything but, being the bathroom to me I would surely put a lot of time and effort since we spend quite a bit of time in there. The colors to me are what one likes but, also the size of the bathroom has a lot to do with this as it can make it smaller or larger. The fixtures are something else to consider we all have such varied tastes but, it can really make a bathroom come alive. Toilet, tub and sink oh yea since they come in different sizes shapes and colors I see its a lot of work. Congrats on being able to do this work and hope it turns out well for you.

  11. Peggy Hart says:

    Love a remodeled bathroom!!

  12. Sandy Cain (aka Candy Samenow) says:

It will all be worth it again. You are very lucky that you are able to do this – I live in a ratty little apartment, and I’m not allowed to renovate (even if I had the money to do it).

Cracking up @mother in law “helping” you out while you were away………………….with wallpaper, no less, lol. Our house was always papered when I was a child. And changed often. And you’re indeed very lucky to have friends to help you out with your renovations. Your friends will NOT do shoddy work & they will not take advantage of you financially. Best wishes! Can’t wait to see the end result!

I know how it’s like to have a dust allergy! Mine is horrible when I’m around it, I just can’t function! I think doing your part in making sure there’s snacks for the workers is perfectly fine! Not gonna lie, I had to smirk at your mother-in-law’s “helped” comment! LOL! Bless them for trying to help! You really can’t be too organized that’s for sure. We just painted one of our bathrooms and it took a lot of organization just to move everything out, tape the panels and then paint! I mean just picking the color was a huge decision. The vanity you chose is gorgeous! I hope everything goes according to plan! Thanks for sharing!

  51. Linda Childers says:

I like what you are doing good luck

  66. Aria H. says:

We just had to replace a toilet and all the fittings and some pipes under it. Can you believe that amazon.com sells toilets. Bought from them, an American Standard, for less than home depot or lowes, plus got it with two days free shipping, compared to $50/$75 shipping to get it in a month from the other stores.

  67. sharon681 says:

Remember that you are also lucky in that you have the ability to renovate anything at all, rather than have to just live with what you feel is old and out-dated. Some of us cant even get to that point. Hope it turns out how you want it to:)

  68. nancy reece says:

Thanks for the awesome college giveaway….

  69. Joyce Poyton says:

I hope that you post after pics of your bathroom reno. We redid our bathroom last year and finally – just got a frameless glass shower installed. We also bought a 1922 cottage that we completely gutted. I hate renos. I have advice though – when it gets too stressful go for a walk. Renovations can be very stressful when you are doing them yourself.

  70. Cheryl Rahkonen says:

I wish I had the courage to renovate. My husband and I are not real handy around the house when it comes to home repairs and of course the budget doesn’t allow for a professional to do it. I applaud you for this undertaking.

  71. Jessica Beardmore Hilton says:

I love the after photos. I know what it is like to redo a room, we gutted our house 5 years ago and are still putting the finishing touches on rooms. Great job!

  72. Darlene Jones-Nelson says:

I hope you post after pictures when you are done. I know remodeling the bathroom isn’t always a fun job dealing with plumbing and electrical. I redid my bathroom last year and the hardest part was picking a new sink me and my Husband could agree on .

  73. lisa says:

Gotta love helpful family members.Heehee! We’re getting ready to start re-doing our upstairs and I’m so not looking forward to it. Our house is old with nice hard wood flooring but poorly insulated. It’s almost paid off so it makes sense to update to our liking and stay here.

  74. Tracy Ames-Dennison says:

The vanity is beautiful! Can’t wait til we get our own home!

  75. Cindy B says:

Bathrooms are one of the most frustrating things to renovate just because of the inconvience, but I’m sure it’ll be worth it in the end. Looking forward to seeing the results, love the vanity you chose!

  76. Melissa Stephens says:

It is absolutely stunning!!! Good luck and have fun!!!

  77. Jane Ritz says:

Your renovations look and sound great, You’ll really enjoy it once it’s done. Redoing a bathroom is worth every cent and all the mess! Wish I could do mine. I tried putting washers in the sink. Now I had to cut the water off! I can’t turn it off! I’m not a plumber. Good lick with everything!! I can’t wait to see your finished pictures.

  78. Sharon Siqueiros says:

Oh I don’t envy you at all! We also plan on totally tearing out our 60yr old main bathroom…..let’s say, I CAN wait
I’m not thrilled with what’s involved!!
That’s a beautiful vanity, good luck and keep us updated

  79. Laneva W says:

  82. Tonya B says:

Exciting! I always love renovation projects… when they’re done.

I love the vanity you’ve chosen. It’s beautiful!

Our best project so far was our family room/ office area. It went from looking like something from the Brady Bunch household to a lovely modern space. My husband doubted me on choosing green for the walls and wanting to paint the trim white, but once it was done it became his favorite space and he gave me full creative control over the rest of the house. ;)

  83. Renee Travis says:

My husband and I do this type of work. It looks like your hubby is doing a great job! I learnt from my hubby and I am glad I paid attention, because there are things now I can do on my own. I love the vanity you have picked out. It is Gorgeous! I look forward to seeing it when it is done!!! :)

  86. Debby Chandler says:

good luck, I know how much work is involved!

  87. cindy jones says:

we are going to renovate our small main bathroom this spring…ill be keeping up with your progress….its exciting and scary at the same time…

  88. Sue Hull says:

I live in an apt. I can’t do any renovations. Yesterday my maintenance men took my ugly and old glass shower doors off. It makes the bathroom look more open. It’s small but it’s just me so it’s fine. They put in some safety bars b/c due to major back issues that effect my balance I needed to be safe so that’s why I’m getting some new things in there.I bought a hand held shower head,it’s so cool! I got myself a stool to sit on,now I don’t have to worry about falling.
My dad builds houses and I’ve seen lots of renovations being done. It’s a long process but in the end it’s so worth it. I love that bathroom in the picture. Good luck with your bathroom.

  89. william saylor says:

Good luck with your projected love to see it when you are finished.

  90. alicia Keen says:

i wish mine was as big as that bathroom too!

  91. Amanda Greene-Lebeck says:

Good luck on the bathroom renovations :) I know its a lot of work, but so worth it!!

  92. Lucky you Mom = need that myself. Will we get to see it all? Love to see finished product!

  93. Lori Hoffman says:

You must be so excited to have this project underway! We bought a new house recently so I have all kinds of projects swirling around in my mind – the first being the kitchen. So much work, but it’s so worth it in the end! The cabinetry you picked out is beautiful! Sending good thoughts your way for a speedy reno! BTW, better take the keys away from your mother-in-law when you’re done so you don’t come home to any more wallpaper surprises! Lol!
