Powered by Mom Blog reviews an Otterbox Samsung Galaxy Tablet Case

Do you own an Otterbox case? If so what do you think of it. Here's my thoughts on our Otterbox case.

Just after Christmas I received my very first Samsung tablet. I love this tablet so the first thing I thought of was that I needed a really good case to protect it from scratches, drops and more. Everyone in my family wants to use the tablet so it was important to me that we put some thought into a good case for it that would be rugged but allowed us to stand the tablet up when needed. A case for us definitely had to have the best protection possible from accidental drops.

I had heard a lot about Otterbox cases for smartphones and tablets being the ultimate protection for your device, however I never owned one. My hubby on the other had has had one for his iPhone and he swears by Otterbox. His phone has been dropped many times at various work sites and his Otterbox has consistently protected his phone. So Otterbox it was for our tablet and we were lucky enough to get one to review.

I got the Defender Series Case for Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 in black. Kind of a boring color I know but it goes with everything. Although now they have it in a color they call papaya, looks more like pomegranate to me but I like it. I would have gotten that color if it had been available then. Anyways above is our case when it's fully enclosed. As you can see there is of course an opening for the camera.

The one part (see picture below) comes off and it can double as the media stand holder in two different positions.  You can see the lever there that you use when it's for the stand. For the two positions to change from one to the other you just flip the tablet from one side of the part below to the other.

Here's what the lower stand position looks like in the nice pomegranate aka papaya color.

When the back part of the case is not on our tablet is still nicely protected as the screen as it has a built in screen protector. The tablet is still fully functional through the screen protector and it seems quite rugged. We've taken our tablet in the Otterbox case with us everywhere, my 12 year old daughter has used it several times and dropped it once oops. There was not a scratch on the tablet and the case doesn't have a dent either.

I personally do not find the Otterbox Defender Series Case for Samsung Galaxy Tab bulky but some people may find it to be that way. For the protection it provides our tablet I'm extremely happy with it. All the ports are easy to access, it's easy to set up on the media stand and it's easy to transport. The only option I wish the Defender series had were cases that also had keyboards for tablets with them. I've only seen cheaply made cases with keyboards so maybe there's a reason Otterbox doesn't make them that way because their cases are not cheaply made. They are top quality and have survived the members in this family both two and four legged so Otterbox gets a 5 out of 5 stars from Powered by Mom and family!

  5. I, too, have heard only good things about Otterbox. And with the prices you pay for smartphones and ipads, you definitely want the best protection possible. I've had cheaper products, and I realize that you get what you pay for, so while Otterbox might cost a little more, ultimately it is worth it!!

  6. I hear great things about otter box. Thank you for the review. I like the fact that your husband has pointed out... that he dropped his phone several times and the phone is still intact. That is real important to me when looking for a case because I can be somewhat clumsy at times.

  7. Wow, the defender series sounds perfect! I am accident prone myself, so I would definitely consider getting one for my tablet, but I am sure that my sister would need it even more for her iPhone. She's dropped it a few times and we are just hoping that the next time it won't completely break! The papaya is a nice color! I like that the tablet case has the option to prop the tablet! Like you said, I don't mind the bulk either. If it protects our prized possessions in the best way possible, I'm fine with the extra weight! Thanks for the review!

I hope they will continue to increase the products that they make cases for like Windows tablets - hint, hint 🙂

  14. Great review. I love Otterbox. While I do find some of the cases a bit too bulky.. it's a small detail I can live with knowing my phone or tablet is completely protected. They're the only cases I trust and every phone I've kept in an otterbox looks brand new when I take off the case.

  16. Great Review. I've been wanting to get one of these but at Christmas time they were very expensive. Haven't looked since then, but your review pretty much showed me it was worth the price.

  17. I want to add a bit about their customer service too. My mother just came up to visit and she showed me her phone. The rubber outer part of the case was stretched. She just got the case and phone in April. So I contacted Otter Box. They had me email a couple photos and they shipped a replacement out to my mother, no receipt needed. And they sent it FedEx! It was waiting for her when she got back to GA from my house in NY a few days later. So not only is it a neat tablet case (I don't have a tablet, but that built in stand thingy looks convenient!), but they have great customer service.
