 Oven-Baked Waffles Recipe - Gluten-Free Option

This oven-baked waffles recipe is easy to make, has a gluten-free option and is ideal for weekday or weekend breakfast! Add your favorite toppings whether they are sweet (our favorite) or savory & enjoy.

You can use a silicone waffle mold as it's so easy to do and you can pick one up from your grocery store or Amazon. There are also different shapes of waffle silicone molds so have fun. baked waffles

I also did a gluten-free option of these waffles which was yummy. It was so good my family had no idea they were gluten-free until I told them afterwards of course.

Make sure to check out our other Recipes like the following:

baked wafflesNow the homemade waffles are easy to make but if you want to make this even easier you can use a pancake/waffle mix, there are even gluten-free ones out there. I like Pamela's gluten-free pancake mix which I see can also be used for waffles, we will try the mix the next round. waffle batter in silicone mouldFirst how did I bake the waffles? Well I used a fabulous silicone waffle mold from Amazon HERE. They are a decent price for a set of two. Or look for some fun shaped waffle molds, I've seen heart-shaped ones and more.

Do baked waffles taste as good as one from a waffle maker?

They sure do, in fact, I can't taste any difference. You can see a difference though as one side of the waffles doesn't have the indentations as you can see below.baked waffles

I love the silicone mold that I have (it's the one above) I can make four waffles at the same time and it's easy and not messy at all.

Oven Baked Waffles

baked waffles stack with berries

This oven-baked waffles recipe is easy to make gluten-free and ideal for weekday or weekend breakfast! Add your favorite toppings whether they are sweet (our favorite) or savory & enjoy.

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 15 minutes
Total Time 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour (or substitute as mentioned above)
  • 2 tablespoon sugar (if you want you can add 3 tablespoon I used 2)
  • 2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon basking soda
  • 2 Large eggs
  • 1 ½ cups of milk
  • vanilla extract if desired - I always use it and add to taste we LOVE vanilla
  • ¼ cup of oil (I like coconut oil but you can use a vegetable oil)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425 F
  2. Combine dry ingredients in medium to large mixing bowl
  3. In another bowl mix eggs, milk, vanilla extract (if using) and oil
  4. Add the wet ingredients to dry and mixed until combined, no big lumps
  5. Brush coconut oil (or oil of choice) or use cooking spray on silicone mold
  6. Pour waffle batter into mold filling no more than ¾ (for gluten free for regular flour maybe half way) make sure to fill all corners.
  7. Bake 12-15 minutes until the waffles look golden brown, if the top is golden brown the bottom should be too.
  8. Take out of oven flip mold (use oven mitts as silicone can be hot) and the waffles will fall out. Serve and enjoy!

Can you freeze the oven-baked waffles?

Yes! We like to make extras of these waffles and freeze them, way better than any frozen waffles you buy in the store. These are great for freezing, they're like your own Eggo Waffle but better and with better ingredients, because you know what went into them. My daughter likes to put them in a toaster or toaster oven. They also warm up nicely in an AirFryer Oven.waffles

They are a bit crispy on the outside but soft on the inside, a tasty waffle indeed. She just tops hers with maple syrup but I love mine with fresh fruit and sometimes some whipped cream. So make a big batch and freeze some for later to be taken out whenever you need them or are just craving a waffle.

Make sure to PIN this recipe for later!

  1. These were sooooo good!! Just made them this morning. My teen daughter woke up at the heavenly smell while they were baking, stumbled in the kitchen, drowned one in maple syrup and ate it all in silence. Then stumbled back out to bed again (in Italy it's summer vacation). I think it's teen speak for "These are so good I wil get out of bed for them" 😀

  2. I haven't tried your recipe yet, but looking at the ingredients it seems really good! I'd like to do these waffles to freeze them for later. But I wondered how to do it? Do I wait until they reach normal temperature and then heat them up or can I take them straight from the freezer to the oven/air fryer? Do you have a best method you recommend?

    • Hi Luisa, I let them defrost a bit until soft around the edges and I used a toaster for them. Every appliance is different. You can defrost and do the oven. I haven't rewarmed them in an air fryer yet but that's a good idea! If you completely defrost they might be soggy but the oven should crisp them up enough on the outside 🙂

  3. These are the best oven baked waffles. Light and fluffy and so good with whipped cream and fruit sauce. I also place blueberries in the batter after filling the silicone forms. A nice variation.

  5. I wish that we knew about these waffle molds a long time ago. We love waffles in our house and purchased two electric waffle makers so that we can feed 4 hungry kids and Dad. My wife got the great idea of making extra and freezing them - reheat in toaster. Making extra also helped reduce the big cleanup job of the electric waffle makers, not fun. Try freezing the a few waffles in ziplock bags so you can grab the number you want and them warm them up in the toaster, works well for us. Even the kids can reheat the frozen waffles themselves.

  6. Any tips or thoughts on if this could be done with a cast iron waffle iron, the kind that you can use on the stove(non glass top stove anyways)?

  8. I found your blog after purchased cheap silicon mould from our local grocery shop. Finally made it today and my girls love it (I haven't tasted myself, being a diabetic I had to follow my eating plan :)). I used up all the batter to fill up 6 cavities of the mould but they turned out too thick (still looked good though). I wonder if I could leave the batter waiting until I can bake the second batch.

Luckily my best friend Uncle Google found you 🙂 Prepared the waffles for dinner tonight - the last time we ate waffles was at Lake Arrowhead in California on vacation last summer - and my men (3 of them) were schocked HOW DID YOU DO THESE? 😀 Put a bowl of fresh strawberries, a big jar of Nutella and whiped cream on the table and it was PERFECT! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

  28. Can I just tell you thank you so much for posting this recipe! I have been searching the internet for a waffle recipe to use with my new waffle silicone molds and I had almost given up before finding yours. I was going to settle for finding a wheat flour recipe and having to tweak it (with great difficulty) so it's gluten free but now I've found your recipe and I'm set! No more greasy & stinky waffle iron. You.are.the.best! 🙂

  34. I've never heard of this way of cooking waffles, but love the idea that 6 waffles will be ready all at the same time. The standing and waiting and watching for each waffle to finish cooking in a waffle maker is what keeps me from making them more often. Do they ever stick in the mold?
