Powered by Mom's Birthday Came Early - Reviewing the Fujifilm FinePix XP120 Camera
I received the rugged, waterproof FinePix XP120 camera just before my birthday
I can't tell you how excited I was to receive Fujifilm's latest rugged, waterproof point and shoot camera the FinePix XP120. I've only had it for a few days as I write this but oh what fun I've been having! If you don't already know you will soon enough that my family and I are gadget geeks. Whether it's related to gaming, computers, cameras or really anything tech related, we love it. Of course I take a lot of photos, it comes with the job between recipe, travel and lifestyle photos. Not to mention driving my family crazy by snapping every family fun moment I can. The Fuji FinePix XP120 comes in four colors – blue, sky blue, green and yellow. I got the blue one and love it!
I headed out to the forest near my house to try out the FinePix XP120
I started the love affair with Fujifilm last year when we had fun with their Instax Share SP-2 Printer and their Mini 8 Instax Camera. Both so much fun but I really fell in love with their mirrorless camera the X-A3. It's now my main go-to camera when I want to take amazing photos whether it's for the latest recipe, event or when travelling. You can find out why I love it so much HERE.
1) Large 3.0 inch 920K-dot LCD Monitor
As you can see on the photo below, the screen shows you a clear and crisp scene to help you take the photo you want. I was using the Scene Recognition Auto Mode below which takes fantastic photos. Literally point and shoot equals great photos.
2) Rugged and Waterproof
The Fuji FinePix XP120 is one rugged compact camera. It's waterproof to o 65 feet \ 20 meters, shockproof to 5.7 feet \ 1.75 meters, freeze proof to 14°F \ -10°C and dust proof! So for this camera I don't mind if my teenager borrows it, I won't even watch over her while she uses it like I do when she borrows my Fuji X-A3 mirrorless camera. While we haven't yet had a chance to go to the beach with it and test it out underwater we did run a hose over it. Oh yes we did. It's not a very exciting video but you can see it below. After letting it dry we tested the camera again and it's all working fine. In fact we did the Moving photo shown below after it was dried out.
3) Special Features: Cinemagraph Mode - Moving Photos
This produces still images with moving parts. I still have to practice this one as the moving photo below was my first attempt but you get the idea of what it does. I can't wait to try this one out some more!
4) High Performance Sensor and Lens for Amazing Photos
The FinePix XP120 has 16.4MP back-illuminated CMOS sensor and FUJINON 5x optical zoom lens that includes a 28mm wide-angle setting, This is a big factor in capturing amazing scenic shots! Just look at the vibrant greens, the sunshine coming through the trees and more in the photo below. Again this was just with the Scene Recognition Auto Setting.
The Finepix XP120 also has an optical zoom range that can be doubled to 10x with Intelligent Digital Zoom technology. The FinePix XP120 has has an image stabilization function which minimizes any camera shake effects. I zoomed in on our dog LZ pictured below from about 12 feet away from him. Again look at all the details and vibrancy of the colours! I'm thrilled with this camera.
5) Shooting Features - Oh so many
There are so many shooting features that I could go on and on but I will try not to. I do love that this FinePix XP120 had some of the same shooting features as my Fuji X-A3. So as I was already familiar with some of them it was easy for me to try them out. I love the sports feature when you can capture photos of a moving subject. Paired with the burst mode of up to 10fps or the Advanced Burst Mode capable of shooting at up to 60 fps you can snap a ton of photos in a short amount of time of a moving subject.
I snapped a photo of hubby and our dog LZ running in the forest. Imagine though getting photos of your kids at their soccer game, swimming and more! There are also underwater modes including an underwater macro mode for close up shooting.
6) Versatility
Part of the charm of this camera is it's versatility. It's a great option for family outings, vacations, everyday use or when you don't want to lug a big camera around. You'll still capture some great photos. I love using the SR mode as mentioned and ones like the one for taking vivid shots of flowers.
Not only did I get some lovely colours in this photo, it was pouring rain out and so I got raindrops on the flowers.
Here's another fabulous example of the stunning photos you can take with the FinePix XP120. Vibrant colours with great details! Love those raindrops.
Or a nice close up of these beautiful peach roses?
7) More Fun Features - Partial Colours, Miniature & More!
I have to admit this is one of my favourite features because it's so much fun! You can create some rather artistic photos. You'll find these in the advanced shooting features but they are so easy to use. You can have partial colours in the photo (Red/Orange/Yellow/Green/Blue/Purple) where the rest is in black and white. This is a favourite of mine.
Here's one example. The top left image is in full colour and from there I do green, red and then yellow.
How about just purple?
Maybe you would like just yellow?
Let's do orange now.
Let's make everything look miniature! It's a fairy forest 🙂
I told you I have way too much fun with this camera! There are so many more shooting features that are a ton of fun and very useful too. Yo'll have to check them all out HERE. One worth mentioning which I haven't really show is the Full HD Movie recording. Thanks to the CMOS sensor, the FinePix XP120 can shoot 1920 x 1080-pixel full HD video. A dedicated movie recording button makes it easy to switch to movie recording mode with a single touch. It also has some advanced movie-editing features.
I can't but help and share another photo!
8) Wireless connectivity & FREE Fujifilm Apps
Everyone loves this features. The camera supports direct Wireless transfer of images to the instax SHARE™ printer for instant printout and sharing on the spot. Enjoy instax prints at parties or on vacations, and share them with your family and friends instantly. Photos can be transferred to your smartphone or tablet by simply pressing the Wi-Fi button on the camera. There's no need to enter a user ID or password; this is an easy and convenient function for when you want to quickly share your pictures on social media or by email. Just use the cool and FREE Fujifilm Apps.
Those are just 8 of the awesome features of the Fujifilm FinePix XP120 there are so many more. So make sure to check them out HERE. What an awesome little camera!! i love the big display!! It really captures those fine details so perfectly!
What gorgeous nature shots these are. I especially like the close up of the peach rose.
This looks like a very nice camera. I want to buy a camera but can not decide.
I've always been a Fuji fan! Always easy to use and amazing quality!
This looks like a great camera, and the pictures look great. My first digital camera was a Fuji. But I just bought a new camera last month, because I wanted one with a really powerful zoom. If I hadn't bought that one, I would have considered this one.
Thanks for the review, been looking at purchasing a new camera.
I really like colors of all the photos with the flowers. Very vibrant and beautiful.
My parents bought this camera for their last vacation and it's pretty excellent. I love that it is waterproof - that is a must for travelling!!
Wonderful thanks for sharing Amber and so glad your parents love it 🙂
I like that you tested it to see if it was water proof. LOVE that it is water proof.
The partial colour feature is awesome as is the fact that it is waterproof!
I liked your review about it being waterproof, really appeals to me
I really like that you tested to see if the camera is actually waterproof. I've purchased several items in the past that claimed to be waterproof, only to be proven wrong with just a few raindrops! Good to know that these cameras really are as durable as they say!
I love the clarity of these photos. This looks like a quality camera. I like that it is waterproof, which is great for when we are doing the outdoor activities.
Great to hear (and see) information about all of the cool features. I had no idea it could do so much.
I love that this is waterproof, fun easy to use features, the fact that it you can take moving photos, that it's rugged and takes great shots from any angle...and the fact that I can use a new camera, mine is so old!
Weatherproof and a large monitor but yet so compact. Small but mighty !!!
Gorgeous shots!!! I am huge on taking pictures and want this so bad!!!
I like the cinemagraph feature..lots more like the large screen and is waterproof! Would be a perfect camera for all photography!
Wow what beautiful shots. We have decided to buy this one for our anniversary trip in August. Thanks for the review!!
You are welcome and enjoy the camera! Happy anniversary in August, that's when ours is too 🙂
It's amazing to see the technology advancement in cameras! Every amateur photographer can not only enhance their vision and work but they can also fine tune and embellish their work! Love it!
this looks like a really nice camera. The photos look great and I really like the idea of the Partial Colours feature. I could have lots of fun with it.
Sports feature is what I like in this camera, it is usually not so easy to shoot moving objects.
I love the partial colours features. What fun this would be.
I am a klutz so I like the fact that it is rugged and waterproof!
Love that the pictures are so clear, and yet the camera is so versatile! I have a great camera that takes amazing pictures, but I don't bring it to several different events I attend for fear something will happen to it...
This sounds like a fantastic camera!
I love that you can have partial colours in the photo (Red/Orange/Yellow/Green/Blue/Purple) where the rest is in black and white and you can make items look miniature.
I love the large screen size in the back. My camera is so old, that the screen is relatively tiny in comparison. The close-ups, zoom, and action photos look fabulous. I'm not much for the partial color feature. I probably wouldn't use it. But I'd try it for fun. My daughter would love it, though. Overall, it looks really sturdy and rugged. I'm hard on my electronics, so this would be a great camera for me.
Oh, so any great settings!
I love that it is water proof and such bright pretty pictures.
I love that the camera is waterproof and that you tested it! It would be great for snapping photos of my dog jumping in the lake. 🙂
Oh wow I love the colour feature. Those photos look so beautiful! I need this.
I learned that the Fujifilm FinePix XP120 Camera offers features including stabilization function, scene recognition and optical zoom. The detail you captured in the picture of the trees is amazing! I appreciate that it is also waterproof and shockproof because accidents do happen. I did not immediately realize waterproof also means you can take photos under water. How awesome!
I love everything about this camera. I like the idea you can have a moving photo right from the camera, also to edit the photos with partial color and more. Being waterproof and wirelss sure does help. There is so much you can do. What a great review.
wow I love the large view screen...and how you can manipulate the pictures is amazing love that mini forest look
The photos you managed to take look beautiful! I'm excited to check this camera out for myself.
Oh wow, this camera takes a good picture, I had always wondered if Fuji camera's took good pics I am going to check this camera out for a gift for my Son, he is so active with his work, his son's this would be perfect for him
I learned that the camera is waterproof which definitely comes in handy!
I like the scene recognition feature.
Such great features. Great review
My father loves to go for walks in the woods and would love this camera to rake pictures of all the animals he sees.
I really love that the camera is waterproof! This would be wonderful for taking to so many holidays like ocean getaways without worrying about the camera being damaged near water
Seems like a great little camera, with all the features I like in a camera too.
I learned you can do so many fun things with this camera.
oh my gosh! I love the partial color feature. That is too cool that you can do that with this camera. and i love the big screen as well. i do not have that with my current camera
This looks like a great camera for our family - rugged, waterproof and lots of features!
This camera is perfect for my son who has special needs & has broken a few cameras over the years. To be shockproof & waterproof are 2 main features I will look for in his next camera like this XP120. Also the images are sharp & vivid!
I love that it is waterproof. So many cool pics you can take without worrying about it getting wet
I really love the new features - They seem easy to use - love the black and white and you can add a splash of colour (i used to hate doing this as it would feel like it would take hours).. Wireless is an amazing feature too!
The Fuji FinePix XP120 is one rugged compact camera. It’s waterproof to o 65 feet \ 20 meters, shockproof to 5.7 feet \ 1.75 meters, freeze proof to 14°F \ -10°C and dust proof! ....sounds super AWESOME!!!!
Love that the camera is rugged and waterproof - perfect for my family!
I like that you can have a partial color in Yellow, red, purple, orange. I can't get enough with the beautiful pictures that you have shared, this feature will be my favorite and also waterproof, so lovely.
Wow I like how your pictures turned out! I like the cinemagraph mode, would love to try out that feature.
I Love the LCD Monitor and the moving pictures feature
what a great camera! Love the Large 3.0 inch 920K-dot LCD Monitor
It's great that it's waterproof,no more panic if it accidentally gets wet!
Great review! I really like the large 3.0 inch 920K-dot LCD Monitor and all the fun features - especially the moving photos!
I like the 3 inch screen and that it's rugged. This camera is suited for my lifestyle
The camera does so much! I love your scenic shot of the trees, and the waterproof testing with the hose video. Very in-depth review.
Love the image stabilization function which minimizes any camera shake effects. This has ruined too many of my photos in the past!
Thank you for the review. As someone who goes to regions which are isolated and remote, plus I camp and hike a lot, I really appreciate that its a rugged and waterproof camera. You would not believe how many times I have destroyed a camera by accidentally dropping it.
Love the screen that would be so much easier to see previews. It takes beautiful pictures! I really enjoy taking pictures of birds, animals and sunsets. Would love to take this camera to a local sunflower field and try it out.
The Fujifilm FinePix XP120 camera with all those amazing features plus waterproof and wireless. I thought my old SLR camera was pretty cool. This camera would be great for a young photographer as well as someone like me who likes to dabble and be creative.
The pictures it took are amazing, I want one!
I like all these fun easy to use features. Looks like a quality product.
