Lack of awareness can not only hurt you, it could kill you!
Does that sound overly dramatic? You might thinks so at first but read on and you will mostly likely change your mind after reading more about why we’re talking about Arrest the Risk Heart Rhythm Society SCA Awareness.
SCA stands for sudden cardiac arrest and it leads to the increased risk of deaths particularly for African Americans. This information comes from the Heart Rhythm Society where after watching the important video below I learned that SCA claims ONE life every 90 seconds in the USA. It takes more lives each year than breast cancer, lung cancer and AIDS. Now those are some very scary statistics! Over 350,000 hearts STOP unexpectedly every year and the worst part is that the majority of them are preventable!
The video as you will seeis orated by Emmy Award-Winning Journalist and TV Personality Shaun Robinson who has joined with the Association of Black Cardiologists and the Heart Rhythm Society to increase awareness of a deadly epidemic. It’s a short video that could have a big impact and could help to increase awareness. You can help to save your life or someone you know just by being more informed and knowing what to do. Isn’t that worth a few minutes of your time? I think it is!
Here’s some more information in case you need more convincing:
Washington, D.C. – October 17th – Lack of awareness and treatment of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) puts African Americans at greater risk of death from the condition, according to a new national survey released today by the Heart Rhythm Society (HRS). The survey findings uncovered significant perception gaps between healthcare providers and consumers when it comes to understanding the condition, its symptoms, risk factors and treatments. Responsible for more than 350,000 U.S. deaths each year, SCA occurs when the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating. Approximately 95 percent of SCA cases result in death; however, it is proven most deadly in African Americans.
Take that few minutes and watch the video if you haven’t already then share it with everyone you know and let’s promote that awareness on Sudden Cardiac Arrest and take preventative measures to help save lives. Everyone’s health is worth a few minutes of our time. Thanks for sharing and spreading awareness.

Heart disease is nothing to joke about. Thanks to my husbands doctor my husband did not have a heart attack. That could have proved deadly because the tests showed he had 3 blocked arteries. Thanks for the info on this.

My mother and I both periodically have severe chest pains. We have both been checked out thoroughly by cardiologists and our hearts are working just fine. It gets pretty scary when the pains hit and it feels like your chest and jaws are in a vice, but the doctors say that there is nothing wrong. ????

I lost my dad last October to sudden cardiac arrest… he had no known heart issues. I was with him just 2 hours prior and he seemed absolutely fine when I left him. I was the last one with him and its still so hard to let go of that guilt. If he was having any symptoms at that time, he didn’t say anything to me.. and nothing out of the ordinary stood out to me at the time.. but to receive a phone call just a few hours later that my dad was gone, was unthinkable.

so sorry for your loss Christina!

Thanks for the information, I have a family history of heart disease, but with medical care being so astronomical it’s really not possible for many Americans to visit a doctor. I do have insurance through my employer, but it doesn’t cover very much and medical care is just too expensive.

You don’t have to have “known” heart problems either. A dear friend from work lost her hubs that way. The office got an AED device right after that. If the Y where he was had one, he might have survived…………….

I’m trying so hard to lose weight so my heart will be healthy.I’m also trying to eat better. I was watching Dr. Oz the other day and Rosie O’ Donnel was on it. When she was saying what her symptoms were and that she didn’t go to the ER I was thinking what the hell is wrong with her?! Just one of those symptoms and I’d be going to the ER fast. I’m glad she did go the next day and just in time too. We need to listen to our bodies. Thank you. 🙂
