Asus Transformer Book T100 Review

Powered by Mom brings you a review of the Asus Transformer Book T100

It’s a laptop and tablet in one!

We were lucky enough to receive an Asus Transformer Book from, and can’t wait to share our thoughts with you on this amazing device!

Asus Transformer Book T100 has an amazing variety of products and accessories. From to cameras to carry-on, to 2-in-1’s, tablets, TV’s, and so much more! I love to “window shop”, and as I am a total tech geek, it’s good to know that has the latest and greatest in tech. The Asus Transformer Book is just one example of the fabulous type of technology available at In this house we are big fans of as they always have what we’re looking for and the prices are ALWAYS very competitive.

Asus Transformer Book T100

Fortunately for me, I received my Asus Transformer Book just in time for my business trip. Weighing in at less than three pounds the Asus Transformer Book T100 is perfect for taking on the road. It’s not heavy, it’s compact, it has its own keyboard, and it can be a tablet when and where I need it to be. It also comes with MS Office and Windows 8.1, which in and of itself is quite the value! I haven’t figured out how to use Office Offline on the Transformer Book, but I’m hoping I will soon. I’m just happy that it has Windows and Office. Even though I love Apple, it would be too expensive for me to get an iPad of the same size with a keyboard (which I need for my work when I travel), along with a few other necessities. For its value, and what you get, the Asus Transformer Book is a great option! I love it! 🙂

Asus Transformer Book T100

Until I got my Asus Transformer Book, I didn’t even realize it came in red, and since I love the color, I was pleasantly surprised! Now it will be easy for me to spot my little Transformer Book amongst the sea of black laptops.

The Asus Transformer Book has one USB port. I would have liked at least two, but sometimes, especially when you have such a powerful machine in such a small form factor, you have to compromise and this is not unusual in portable machines. Also, to access the USB port, you have to have the tablet portion attached to the keyboard.

As a tablet, it has a lot of great features. This includes a 10.1 inch screen. Naturally, it’s a touch screen … otherwise it couldn’t be a tablet. 🙂 I find it quite responsive, but funny enough I find it heavy to hold. I have small hands, though, so anything bigger than my 7″ Samsung seems heavy to me.

Powered by Mom’s thoughts…

I’ve already expressed how I like the portability of the Asus Transformer Book. That it has Microsoft Office 2013 pre-installed and how I would love if it had more one USB port but I will take the portability and flexibility of this machine over anything, which it delivers in spades. Some of my other thoughts are geared more toward those with bigger hands (mine are quite small). Simply put, those with larger hands may find the keyboard to be a bit more challenging but again remember it’s meant to be a small machine that you can take anywhere. I suggest thinking about how you want to use this device and why it’s important to you prior to purchasing. The touch pad area has been easy to use, no issues with it at all although, I do prefer to use a mouse when I can – that’s my personal preference.

The camera provides your basic functions, it’s perfect for Skype and any video conferences, if you want to take a selfie but it’s still a tablet/laptop camera. I don’t find for any tablet or laptop that I use the camera much for pictures.  It’s not what I would rely on for an important video or picture, but I think of it as a bonus. 🙂 It will certainly do for any video conferencing.

Asus Transformer Book T100

The speakers sound great for its size, and it gives me what I need – a little music here and there, like if I’m working and of course I can watch movies in my down time. It also comes with unlimited Asus Web Storage for one year, which can be very handy if you have lots of files like I do.

Overall, I think that the Asus Transformer Book will work extremely well for me as a travel laptop. It has everything I need – it’s portable, it’s versatile, since it transforms from a notebook to a tablet, and it has MS Office. For its price and capabilities ($300-$400), it has enough of the same and in some cases more than your average notebook for a fraction of the price. It’s perfect for me for travelling and for my husband when he’s on the road going from job site to job site. I really like using the tablet function, it’s surprisingly a great tablet in my humble opinion.

Asus Transformer Book T100

I’m extremely happy with it and can’t wait to take it on my upcoming trip!

  8. I REALLY REALLY Need and Want one of these (or something very much like it. ) Let me start by saying I’ve been trying to decide between getting a new laptop or a new tablet (and I was going to start by shopping at BuyDig) ~ but here’s the thing: “new” is a misnomer ~ I’ve had an “old” (or any one) of EITHER of these devices ~ I am still shackled to my big, clunky, slow, obsolete DESKTOP computer that I won in an essay writing contest back in 2007!!! It’s a disaster.

So anyway, I really appreciated your very thoughtful and informative review. I guess I am a tiny bit concerned by your comment about the lack of USB ports ~ and like you, I do prefer using a mouse (probably because I’m used to it!) but the price is right and the weight and size is too (it is so much lighter than my husband’s VERY heavy laptop!

Thanks again for the great review!

  25. I love the color red I hate when we lay our electronics around in the house and I don’t know which ones mine the red always will stand out so I love that I like the 10.1 inch screen too since I have eye problems I like a large screen and its light weight too.

  26. This sounds like a really great laptop. I love that it is so lightweight and weighs less than 3 lbs. This would be great for blogging on the go.

  27. I’m not quite sure what this is. I’m not up on all of the gadgets available. I haven’t even been able to figure out why people are obsessed with taking photos of themselves and posting them.

  28. I have owned an older version of this and was not happy about all of the issues that I had with it however after reading your review I might have to give this newer model a try. I LOVE the color first of all and the specs are much better with the quad core processor. The fact that it has Microsoft Office pre installed is a bonus for me as well. Thanks for being so thorough.

  29. I learned that it is very light weight and that it can be used as a laptop or a tablet. I like that it has MS Office. Great colors!

  30. I learned that it sounds like it will be useful for me to use for school enrolling for the spring classes, even though it only has on usb port. A second (at least) would have been even better though, obviously.

  31. I learned that the Asus Transformer Book T100 weighs less than 3lbs and is a tablet and a laptop in one. I love that it comes in the color red! It is a plus that it comes with Windows 8.1 and Microsoft Office 2013. This would be perfect for my fiance who is in college. Thank you for the awesome giveaway!

  32. I love that this is lightweight and us the size of a tablet but acts like a computer. I also like that it comes with MS Office

  33. I love that it is so light weight, so versatile, also that it has good sound, I watch movies on my old laptop and can barely hear the words!

  34. I learned that it has 1 USB port. BUT I have a hub with 4 USB ports, so that would not be a problem. I would LOVE to carry this around instead of my heavy laptop! 🙂

  35. At my age, I love that the Dedicated Reading Mode reduces eye strain by automatically adjusting screen brightness, contrast and color for comfortable prolonged use. I also like that it has Microsoft Office 2013 pre-installed. It seems just about ready to use – login & go!

  36. I love that this is the size of a tablet but acts like a computer. It is so hard to bookmark and enter giveaways on a tablet or ipad compared to my laptop. This looks like a great one to have!!

  37. what i like about it is that it can be either laptop/tablet and that the light system is good for us who have sensitive eyes,
Not only that but i have read other reviews on this product and they are reliable unlike my dell

  38. has amazing prizes! They have the best products available. O huge selection, to choose from. Couldnt ask for anything more.

  39. I have heard wonderful things about Asus, they are one of the top manufacturers on the market. I didn’t know until I read the review, that it comes with Microsoft Office 2013! That saves about $200 that you would normally have to spend in addition to the price of the computer/tablet. I love that it is so versatile, and I am very surprised it is so light weight.

  40. I learned that it has only 1 USB port (which would be a drawback), but otherwise I like that it’s very light weight and can function as both a tablet and laptop. I also like the fact it has Microsoft Word installed.

  41. Been having some eye problems lately so it caught my attention that you mentioned that this has a “Dedicated Reading Mode reduces eye strain by automatically adjusting screen brightness, contrast and color for comfortable prolonged use”. This is really awesome. A big plus is that also comes with MS Office and Windows 8.1 and yes, I agree with you that it is quite the value.

  42. I like how it is ready to go to worj with you with Microsoft Office already installed. I also like how easy it is to travel with.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  45. I like the portability, lightweight, and it can be a tablet or pc. It comes with Office and Windows 8.1! Seems like a great little machine!

  46. wow great for this information this help me to buy one for my daughter now that he is learning how to type on school this will be great because it can be remove and you can take it anywhere you want, and the color is just great love it. I’m not a tech profecional but this will help us out.

  47. Wow!! What did I learn from your awesome review? Well, probably more than my husband would’ve liked me to. That’s for sure. But he’ll soon appreciate your info, too. Just last night we were watching tv and a commercial for this superb ASUS product grabbed our attention. See, I’m in the market for an upgrade and my husband is in the market for the perfect Anniversary/B’day gift. HELLO!! Yep. I learned I NEED the ASUS Transformer. A double plus because your review also led me to and my husband was able to buy my anniversary present. He just doesn’t know it yet. However, he will love what he picked out!!

  48. I love the light weight and that Office comes pre-installed. That alone makes it valuable and with a price tag of under $400, almost unheard of. Sounds like a winner to me. My daughter is getting ready to go back to school so I will have to share this with her!

  49. I absolutely love the versatility of this machine. That is comes with Office is a huge plus, while the one USB port is a rather big minus (in my opinion). But for the price point, it’s still pretty sweet.

  50. I think this sounds perfect for me. It’s lightweight and portable which is something I need since there are days I work from home. I love the fact that it’s a touch screen! I also like that it has 8 hours of battery life and a 64GB memory. All in all I think it would be great to have!

  55. I learned that it has only 1 usb port, a 10″ screen, and weighs about 3lbs. I love that it comes in red, which is gorgeous! For $300-$400 a tablet and laptop in one is awesome!

  56. This looks and sounds to be a good tablet (with a keyboard!). I really like that you can also use it with touch-screen. The color is pretty too. Their shop certainly has quite a few different types of electronics at great prices!

  57. I learned a great deal from your review, including the fact that it can be used as a laptop or a tablet. You pointed out that it only has one USB port, but must be in the laptop mode before using the port. It also has Windows 8 and several other helpful programs already installed. Thank you for such a thorough review. I feel like I have seen and tried it out and am seriously thinking of purchasing one.

  58. I, like you would like more usb ports but other than that I like it. The red color is pretty. I am hoping to win and you gave such a great review of this product encourages one to consider this one. Thanks for sharing with us.

  59. I learned that the battery last up to 11 hours!! or 8… either way that is a heck of a lot longer than my laptop!! love that it’s lightweight weighs less than 3 lbs. I lugged my laptop to and from class back in college and jeez was that heavy. I wish I had one of these then

  60. I love the fact that it has Microsoft Office 2013 pre-installed on it, that would come in handy for me and the extra web storage is a must.

  61. I learned that the Asus Transformer Book comes with MS Office pre-installed, has 64 GB storage and pretty good speakers for it’s size!

  62. I cant believe how light it is. My laptop is light but it still has enough weight to it that you can remember its there. This one i would have to be extra careful with lol, especially with the horrible luck i seem to have with electronics. That bad luck most definitely being my son lol.

  63. thank you for all the info provided here… even things most people wouldn’t think about (big hands!)
i have fat fingers but i’ve never had problems with the smaller keyboards (actually, when i upgraded to my current laptop, the keyboard gave me all sorts of problems with its chiclet keys… i was used to much much closer together!)
i love the idea of dual core, but i still worry it wouldn’t be good enough for the massive amount of processing power we demand. i think it’d be relegated into the tablet category and ignored like the other tablets we have

  64. I like that it can be a tablet and a laptop perfect for traveling. My college son would love that it has Microsoft Office 2013 pre-installed. Since he a business major and it comes with a year free of storage. This saves money in having to buy the software programs separate. Also, like the eye strain feature Dedicated Reading Mode reduces eye strain by automatically adjusting screen brightness, contrast and color for comfortable prolonged use. Looks like out with the Acer and in with the ASUS Transformer Book! Great review and thanks for the chance to win this tech savvy #Giveaway!

  65. i really like that it has the windows program in it, nowadays you have to pay to get that program, i really like the design as well. pretty sleek looking and i bet perfect to carry, small enough to fit into almost any bag, lol.

  66. i love the power and the processing this sounds like an amazing product i love that its lightweight and has the ability to become a tablet also always great for taking it on the go

  67. I love that the tablet connects to a keyboard. My biggest complaint is the typing. Usually the most I get out of a tablet is playing games and reading. Now I can answer emails without it taking so long!

  68. I learned that it comes with Windows 8 and Microsoft Office. I also learned that it is a touchscreen. What is really great is that it has Dedicated Reading Mode to reduce eye strain.

  69. I have wanted one of these for quite awhile. I like that the Asus Transformer Book comes loaded with Microsoft Office and can also function as a tablet.

  70. I learned that comes with UNLIMITED Asus Web storage for a whole year. I could use that, I’m running out of places to stash my files!

  71. One thing I learned was that the Asus Transformer Book weighs less than 3 lbs. It would be nice carrying the Asus Transformer Book in my tote bag without struggling with to much weight.

  72. I love the size and style of the Transformer. It will be perfect for business or pleasure especially when traveling.

  73. I learned that it is a 2-in-1 meaning it can be used as a notebook and also as a tablet with a touchscreen. It has 11 hours of battery life and a camera. I love the red color too.

  74. I learned that it has a special reading mode that reduces eye strain, which is awesome since my current tablet bothers my eyes after a few hours.

  75. Great review, I learned and love that it is light weight and I love the 11 hr. battery but mostly the 10.1 inch screen. Awesome laptop/tablet for less than 400 bucks, Great Deal.

  76. Love the weight aand size. Also the eleven hour batteryis great. But I’mcrazy for the Red. :).
    Thanks for your review. Perfect.

  77. I learned that it’s really great for travelling and I love that. I also really like the 11 hours of battery life because it can sometimes be difficult to find a place to plug in.

  78. this looks amazing. i dont really ever get new technology and this is exactly what i need. i work for myself and often have my kids with me, this is a tablet AND a laptop, with full features of both.

  79. I am happy to learn that is comes loaded with MS Office which is unusual for a tablet. It also can be hooked to the keyboard to be used as a laptop. Sounds perfect for my needs, thanks for the opportunity to win it.

  80. I like the size and the weight. I also like the HD 10.1 inch, multi-touch display and that it comes preloaded with Windows and Microsoft Office,

  81. Wish it had more than one usb port, but could get a hub. I also love how it transforms from a tablet to a notebook and the lightweight design. I love the color and I like that the sound is high quality. Great review.

  82. I learned that it doesn’t weight that much, not only is it a laptop but also can easy be turned into a tablet. I also learned that for less that 400 you are getting a product that is preloaded with Microsoft.

  83. I love that it comes with Microsoft Office! For the price it sounds like a really good tablet. It also helps that it comes with a keyboard too!

  84. I have one of these and it’s my BABy!! I love the thing to death, I carry it around and it has the convenient key board. I LOVE my desk top don’t get me wrong but it’s so convenient to be able to sit in bed with my tab tray and chill on the pc!! Thee best invention ever was the tab!!

  85. I didn’t know that the Asus Transformer Book came in any color other than red. I appreciate that you mentioned that it only has one USB port, that is information that I sometimes overlook while reading item descriptions on-line because there is so much technical info to digest.

  86. this would be perfect for my hubby since hes a teacher. a light weight computer/tab he could easily lug around..i love how sleek it is.

  87. I love the color, how it is so light weight, the detachable key board and it comes with MS Office! This would be perfect for home use and for my son for school 🙂

  88. Sounds like an awesome machine. Powerful, a lot of storage and some great apps. I would dearly love to have one. Especially as it’s easy to travel with.

  89. Love this! Even the color! Thanks for the great review! I keep seeing this and dreaming of getting one one day. 🙂

  90. My daughter will that its light wight, with all the books she has to carry for collage from my house and back

  91. Honestly I like the fact that you can it in some other color besides black or even silver. I love that it stands out. It’s also very light which would be convenient for someone that was always on the go.

  92. I love that it weighs less than 3 lbs . You can also detach the screen and walk around with it . Asus is a great Computer due to I own one and love it .

  93. I learned that it comes in red, which is great! I also learned that it comes with Office pre-installed, which is a huge plus for me!

  94. It’s cool to have the option of a laptop when you’ve got work to do, and a tablet when it’s time to crawl into bed and stream ‘Downton Abbey’ for a few hours. Nice versatility!

  95. I love that the Asus Transformer Book is both a Laptop and a Tablet all in one and that it weighs less than 3 lbs.

  96. For me anything that comes in red is a plus.. This actually looks amazing. I love how you can use it both way, I would love to have this!

  97. i learned that it only has one usb port and like you i wish it had more. i wonder how well or if you might be able to add a hub for more ports. i like that it is portable and need thast for when i have to be on the go.

  98. This would be the perfect travel laptop/tablet. I can see when in a hotel room using the full unit but then when going out by the pool, making it a tablet. Ingenious. Thanks for the review.

  99. For that price with it being that light, and it transfer from a notebook to a tablet sounds very good of a deal.

  100. The Asus Transformer Book T10 sounds like a great product. Love the color and it’s light weight and has a keyboard. There are several products like this on the market but this is less expensive. Glad it has a 10.1 inch screen and a touch screen.

  101. For more available USB ports I’d recommend investing in a USB Hub. They are quite cheap and there are some that you plug in straight into the usb port (there is only 1 on the Transformer Book).

The only con being that it’s more added equipment to carry around. Anyways nice review :).

  102. I`ve heard a lot of god things about Asus products. Love that the Transformer Book is very lightweight and easy to use. Great color!!

  103. This sounds better than my Aspire! The sound on mine stinks, I pretty much have to hook it up to a separate speaker to hear anything! I need to try one of these, I think.

  104. First off, I appreciate your noting the T100’s limitations like just 1 USB port and the smallish keyboard. However, your review notes plenty of features to recommend it as a nice portable laptop/tablet. I find the battery life, windows 8.1, Bluetooth 4.0, and stylish appearance all nice pluses. I enjoyed reading about it.

  105. I am not too tech-savvy so being able to have the specifications explained simply and clearly was awesome! 🙂

  106. I never knew something could be so awesome and compact at the same time. Less than 3 lbs, but it’s also a laptop and tablet in one? I need that in my life! The perks are the wireless and long battery life.

  107. The points you bring up concerning the portability of the ASUS are the same reason I bought their laptop. What I discovered is the laptop is now stationary on my desk and I’m looking for the transforming tablet

  108. Boy I would love having this. It would be so nice to be able to move around instead of sitting at my computer all day. My grandchildren would love it to do some of their homework on. I also love how lightweight it is.

  109. Based on this review – I will be checking the ASUS Transformer out when I finally purchase a 2-in-1. I would NOT have considered this model without this review.

  110. I learned that the Asus Transformer Book has one USB port and a 10.1 inch screen that’s a touch screen.

  111. Love that it is a duo (used as tablet and laptop) . And the size, love the weight of it. This would be great for our family for one that likes tablets and the other that finds it more comfortable to use a laptop.

  112. I love that it can be a laptop or a notebook! Also it is lightweight and easy to use. All the extras are great also. Getting tge windows is a plus.

  113. This sounds like a great little tablet/laptop. I love the idea of a 2 in 1 and I really like the fact that it is compact and light weight. This would be a great product to own! 😉

  114. Thanks for a review that really explains a 2 in 1. I love how it is versatile and so light weight! Not like a bulky laptop that seems to weigh a ton at times! I might put it on my birthday list this year…it’s time for a new laptop anyway!

  115. I love how light it is and that it comes apart to be used like a tablet, but there’s a keyboard if you need it. I have a smaller tablet and it drives me crazy trying to type on it. The reading mode sounds great. I have chronic migraines and struggle to combat eye strain.

  116. i learnt that the laptop has 10.1 inch screen and the touch screen is quick in response and also the fact that it transforms from a notebook to a tablet.

  117. I love that the battery lasts for 8 hours, which would allow me to use it while I’m flying if I need to. I also love the 64 GB of storage since my current tablet only has 16, which is woefully inadequate!

  118. I love that it has an 8 hour battery life, which would allow me to use it while I”m flying if I need to. I also love that it has 64 GB of storage space available!

  119. I love that it is both a tablet and a computer! The touch screen would be different to get use to, but at the same time it would be similar to using a smart phone. It is light weight, and comes in a fun color Red, instead of black.

  120. One of the programs I use a lot is the Microsoft Office and I was thrilled to learn that the ASUS Transformer Book T100 came preloaded with the Microsoft Office. That would be a selling point to me.

  121. I love that this is light weight and easy to carry with you. This looks so nice. I would love to have one of these. I am not to tech savvy but I am learning.

  122. I really like that it has Microsoft Word. Nowadays you have to download that separately. I like that the keyboard is detachable and I like how light it is. 🙂

  123. I love that this has Microsoft Office pre-installed. It has a webcam and can be used and a tablet or laptop! Sounds like just what I need.

  124. I have to say this sounds like a dream. All the power in a little package that makes “travel” a dream that doesn’t look like it would turn into a nightmare … and yes having a nice red color does make it stand out in a crowd

  125. I love that this laptop is so light. Mine, which is only 6 months old but already is problematic, weighs almost 5 pounds!

  126. The Asus Transformer Book T100 looks like a great laptop. I think the best feature of this laptop is its ability to transform from a laptop to a tablet. I’d love to have one of these, thank you for sharing this review.

  127. I love everything about this! I love that it’s touchscreen and comes apart. I’ve never had a laptop and I’ve been trying to win one since I can’t afford one. This is so perfect for me. I have to sit at my desk since I have a PC. I don’t mind b/c I love my computer but my chair is in desperate need to be replaced.
I like that it comes in red too 🙂

  128. This sounds like a really nice little laptop/tablet. I agree with you about a second USB port but I love the fact that it has good sound and a touch screen. It is also great that you can get it in a color. Very neat little contraption.
