Baby Video Monitor To The Rescue
Fall is here. Three littles under eight + six weeks into the school year can only mean one thing. Fall colds have arrived at our house. Normally, I’d arm myself with a couple of home remedies. Handkerchiefs, humidifiers throughout the house, lots and lots of H2O, some over-the-counter meds, a baby video monitor and lots of resting. This works for my bigs who are eight and almost five, but this year, we have a baby in the house.
Baby Boogies Are No Joke
She’s a teeny, tiny fireball of 11 months and this week she has had more than her fair share of coughs, boogies and tired eyes. For the record—she’s a breast baby who actually sleeps through the night. But she’s sick so that’s out the window. Night one, I woke up to what sounded like a croupy cough over the baby video monitor. But only a little bit. I fed her and held her until she made it perfectly clear she really needed her crib. Night two, the sounds from our sweet peanut’s room sounded worse and I actually started to worry that I should definitely take her to the doctor when Monday rolled around.
Thankfully We Live In A Heavily Monitored Time
Then I remembered that my new favorite toy had arrived the week before. You see, while we were a well-house, our baby video monitor went kaput. Conveniently this happened right around the time Homiee sent me a brand spanking new 720P Digital Wireless Baby Video Monitor to review. Our previous monitor was pretty alright and while I’d enjoyed a few nights of actually being able to see our sweet girl on the screen, I hadn’t actually utilized the full potential of this beaut!
The Little Things Become Huge When Your Baby Is Sick
Ya’ll. On night three, I was actually able to calm little miss down simply by using the talk button and shushing into our new video monitor. From. The. Living. Room. Now if you’ve ever spent 22 of 24 hours in one day holding a snotting, sweating, fussy child, then you totally get the sheer amazingness of this. Not to mention, the ability to calm a breast baby without going into their room where they can smell that the grocery store has come to them—shear genius.
Beyond The Sick Baby Monitoring
I could go on and on about the perfect color screen, the ability to play lullabies remotely or the mere fact that I put the camera on a shelf in the room and it rotates from one end to the other with a simple touch of a button. Plus now that it’s getting cold outside, our house is in a bit of a cold/hot funk. Homiee even added in a handy temperature gauge which I use when I’m hemming and hawing over footie PJ’s or shorties. But what got me through this last week was the talk button and the fact that in the middle of the night I could see clearly that little chest rising and falling without a squint.
Monitoring the older kids
I’m pretty sure I need to buy another camera to put into our playroom so I can use the talk button to break up arguments and ask the kids questions. Homiee gives new meaning to mom having eyes in the back of her head. Not to mention, the ability to scan a room you can’t be in gives your kiddos some autonomy and you some peace of mind about their play. To be honest, my oldest has had a hay day being able to communicate with me when I’m in the nursery doing something with the baby. It is super convenient being able to talk to her without her coming into the room to rile the baby up.
Parenting Must-Have Headed Into Sick Season
