Here are the “beef” products that we received from Beyond Meat
In fact Beyond Meat has been tested by professional basketball players, baseball players, volleyball players and surfers and they agree it tastes good too. You will probably recognize some of the names like J.J. Redick, pro basketball player and member of the LA Clippers team. He is just one of the team of athletic partners of Beyond Meat who understand the benefits of plant-based proteins!

However you’re probably wondering what the average person thinks of the Beyond Meat products, well that’s where I and my family have come to tell you what we think. In fact I have to admit I was a bit sneaky on this one, I didn’t tell my family that I was going to serve them a plant-based meal, they had no idea that I had substituted a main ingredient in our dinner for a Beyond Meat product.
These are the Italian meatballs from Beyond Meat that I used in the spaghetti and meatballs dinner I made for my family. They are still frozen in the picture below. You take them right out of the freezer and start to cook with them.
If I had told them in advance trust me they would have been looking for differences, they probably would have imagined it tasted different. It’s not the first time I’ve done this to them, it’s how I was able to sneak some greens into our smoothies without them knowing. I covered up the color of the greens with blueberries and they had no idea that our smoothies were packed full of greens until I told them. So I did something similar with the Beyond Meat Beefy Crumble and Italian Meatballs. All I did was substituted them for our ground beef in my usual spaghetti sauce dish and served it up to them.
What did they think? Well here’s a video on their reaction, they were wondering why I brought out the camera 🙂
As you can see in the video they kept on eating the spaghetti no matter what I said. They hadn’t even noticed that they weren’t eating meat. Now they don’t seem surprised but don’t take that as a sign, they were just too busy eating which to me means SUCCESS! They liked the spaghetti so they just didn’t stop eating, they had no idea it wasn’t meat until I told them. It still didn’t stop my two carnivores from eating the spaghetti, in my house that is amazing as these two are picky, especially when it comes to their meat.
Here’s a picture of our yummy meal that day. Can you tell it’s not meat?
I did find it interesting that my daughter said she thought the spaghetti sauce was chunkier as I thought the “meat” was crumbled more, in fact I would probably add a bit more of the Beyond Beef crumble to the sauce as I like it that way.
I am thrilled that I now have some plant based protein to feed my family as I’ve been the only one until now to lessen my intake of meat. It’s been a challenge to try and get my husband and daughter to eat less meat as they didn’t like the alternatives. Now they are looking ahem Beyond Meat and have learned that there are indeed some tasty alternatives for them to try! I can’t wait to see what they think of the chicken tenders!
While I was provided product and compensation for this post by Savage River. However as always all opinions are 100% my own and my family really had no idea that they weren’t eating meat until I told them!
