Bring Change 2 Mind – End the stigma of mental illness
Let’s end the stigma and discrimination when it comes to mental illness.
Mental illnesses, such as depression, eating disorders, schizophrenia, and ADD, affect millions of people worldwide. Bring Change to Mind (BC2M) a nonprofit organization built to start the conversation about mental health, co-founded by Glenn Close, is hoping to amplify its mission by bringing this discussion about mental illness online to build the awareness, understanding, and empathy necessary to inspire action to end stigma and discrimination.
Our daughter has ADD but fortunately for all of us we have a wonderful support network of family, friends and even her teachers in high school. She hasn’t had any issues with students bullying her or treating her different and we’re thankful for that. However that wasn’t the case in her elementary school and we had to deal with many issues then. We were lucky that we had friends and family to help us through it and that my daughter’s own friends were amazing as well. Not everyone is so lucky but we think everyone should have that support.
Everyone whether they are dealing with a mental illness, know someone who is are just a human being on this planet needs to understand that we can all help to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness and give those who are suffering the courage to seek help. They are not alone, there are countless people who have to suffer through this but they shouldn’t have to do it by themselves, they shouldn’t have to worry about what other people think of them. They should be able too feel comfortable getting the help they need when they need.
Knowing that they’re not alone helps those who need it, and we all can help by being aware and sharing our own stories and not being afraid to do so. To start Bring Change 2 Mind is doing just that giving a place for people to share their stories HERE. If you or someone you know is struggling, reach out to them, you can share this link: http://bringchange2mind.org/stories/watch-stories/ where they can see they’re not alone as they watch the stories of others, how they’ve struggled and what they’ve done to get the support they need.
To encourage everyone to stop the stigma and discrimination against mental illness we want to share this video by Whitney Woerz.
We hope that you will share your stories or help someone who needs it, so that all of us together can end the discrimination against mental illness. Feel free to share the link to Bring Change 2 Mind, let’s reach out and helps those that we can. http://bringchange2mind.org/
