Burger No Bun Please A Gluten Free Option

in Family and Home, Recipes on 09/24/13

Oh yummy this is one delicious burger without the bun!

Have you been wanting some alternatives to having a good burger without the bun (aka gluten free if you so desire) well here’s one!

 Gluten Free

Yes these past few months especially over the Summer with all the grilling we did on the barbeque hubby and I had our burgers all of the time without the buns. We’ve come to really prefer it this way as it’s so yummy and we don’t get the heaviness of the bread! Just look at that hamburger doesn’t it look delicious? That one is mine with my preferred toppings of some cheddar cheese, sauteed mushrooms, pickles and some fresh basil I love basil and it tastes amazing on a burger! I’ve also seen people wrap lettuce around their burger so if you don’t want to use a knife and fork like we do you can so there’s two options for you!

I’ve also topped my burger with avocado and tomato as well but I always have pickles on mine and hubby likes to add bacon to his. You get so full this way why would you need the bun? Of course if you’d like a bigger meal you still have the options of sides like the dish below where I had some fresh tomatoes and cucumbers with some olive oil and a wee bit of salt and pepper on them along with some baked (not deep fried) fries. So if you want those crabs you can still get them but I rarely have it with fries however, my hubby and daughter love their fries so I usually bake some for them and I’ve even cooked them on an old cookie sheet on the barbeque too. Either way it’s a filling delicious meal without any bread if that’s your goal or if you’re like us you just like it without the bun 🙂

WOW! My hubby always has to have a bun with his hamburgers! Plus, he likes the round artisan like buns (you know the ones that are generally to big for your burger!) I will eat my burger an awful lot without all that bread! I like ketchup, relish, red onion, pickles, lettuce, cheese and a little salt and pepper! I’m pretty plain when it comes to certain things I eat! The kids will pretty much eat anything you put in front of them! The kids and I love chicken, however, hubby hates it! It’s not too often that I make chicken because I have to make something entirely different for hubby! I’ve been thinking about getting some chicken and the next time we have spaghetti, make breaded chicken with cheese and the kids and I can have chicken parmesan while hubby just eats his bread, salad and his spaghetti! Burgers on the grill are the best though! I hate when they all ask for burgers and I have to fry them up! They just don’t taste the same and their a lot greasier! Thanks so much for sharing your “recipe” for burgers with all of us! I honestly do appreciate it! Thanks again, Michele 🙂

A burger is always good, it must be grilled not fried. If bread is an issue it tastes just fine on a piece of lettuce.

Love this we do it often, tip for a healthier option we would take and substitute the fries with zucchini and yellow squash stick and lightly tossed and in olive oil and grilled the sprinkled wit a little parmesan cheese. and on my burger instead of cheddar cheese I use mozzarella slices it is healthier.

I agree with all the others, this looks incredible! I do love my bun when I am eating a burger but this looks so good I would not even realize I was missing anything while eating it! Basil is really good on burgers, I grew some this summer and thought I would throw it in just to try and I loved it! (kids not so much haha). I love to bbq a big portabello mushroom and make my burgers a ” double patty” sometimes. Ahhh i miss summer and being able to access the bbq =)

Honestly – I’ve been eating burgers without the bun – which how my Mom and my Grandma always did as well. So you could say it’s been handed down through generations of women on my mothers side. We don’t miss the bun at all (and certainly not the empty calories!) – and love the thoughtfulness and creativity the Bunless Burger inspires.

My Honey/Hubby however, has been a harder sell – but I he really seems to be coming around. We’ve been eating burgers in wrapped in lettuce leaves – which he discovered were not so bad after all – and then he noticed (YAY!) that he was actually losing weight – I mean real significant weight! And all the while he was still enjoying his “almost” burgers!

But I also love your creative (and yummy looking) bunless burger ideas. I think the hardest part is getting the guys to truly “think outside of the bun!” And that’s when the fun kicks in. Thanks!

I think this looks great. I would personally do fresh chopped mushrooms as they’re more filling and have a great texture. Also tomato and bacon talks to me 😀

Other toppings that are good are lettuce, red onion ( try it sometime instead of white or yellow onion and you’ll be a convert also) pickles, chili, different cheeses really set it apart ( I like swiss or monterey jack) and also don’t forget sauces! Mustard, dijon mustard, mayo, ketchup, A1, BBQ sauce, all are great flavor options!

I like to eat my burger (turkey or chicken) with rice, potatoes, or fries. If you are having fries there really is no reason to have a bun.

I don’t have them often but when I do, I’ve been eating mine without bread for about 12 years now. I have alot of stomach issues and bread tends to hit like lead. I prefer them that way! That burger looks delicious!

I like burgers with a bun. I think you can put more toppings on without a bun. My favorite is to add sauteed mushrooms or sauteed onions with crumbled bacon on. We have them quite frequently like this.
