Oh yummy this is one delicious burger without the bun!
Have you been wanting some alternatives to having a good burger without the bun (aka gluten free if you so desire) well here's one!
Yes these past few months especially over the Summer with all the grilling we did on the barbeque hubby and I had our burgers all of the time without the buns. We've come to really prefer it this way as it's so yummy and we don't get the heaviness of the bread! Just look at that hamburger doesn't it look delicious? That one is mine with my preferred toppings of some cheddar cheese, sauteed mushrooms, pickles and some fresh basil I love basil and it tastes amazing on a burger! I've also seen people wrap lettuce around their burger so if you don't want to use a knife and fork like we do you can so there's two options for you!
I've also topped my burger with avocado and tomato as well but I always have pickles on mine and hubby likes to add bacon to his. You get so full this way why would you need the bun? Of course if you'd like a bigger meal you still have the options of sides like the dish below where I had some fresh tomatoes and cucumbers with some olive oil and a wee bit of salt and pepper on them along with some baked (not deep fried) fries. So if you want those crabs you can still get them but I rarely have it with fries however, my hubby and daughter love their fries so I usually bake some for them and I've even cooked them on an old cookie sheet on the barbeque too. Either way it's a filling delicious meal without any bread if that's your goal or if you're like us you just like it without the bun 🙂
How do you like to eat your burger? Feel free to comment below 🙂
This looks yummy. I need to cut back on carbs per my doctor so this would be perfect. Thank you so much for sharing
WOW! My hubby always has to have a bun with his hamburgers! Plus, he likes the round artisan like buns (you know the ones that are generally to big for your burger!) I will eat my burger an awful lot without all that bread! I like ketchup, relish, red onion, pickles, lettuce, cheese and a little salt and pepper! I'm pretty plain when it comes to certain things I eat! The kids will pretty much eat anything you put in front of them! The kids and I love chicken, however, hubby hates it! It's not too often that I make chicken because I have to make something entirely different for hubby! I've been thinking about getting some chicken and the next time we have spaghetti, make breaded chicken with cheese and the kids and I can have chicken parmesan while hubby just eats his bread, salad and his spaghetti! Burgers on the grill are the best though! I hate when they all ask for burgers and I have to fry them up! They just don't taste the same and their a lot greasier! Thanks so much for sharing your "recipe" for burgers with all of us! I honestly do appreciate it! Thanks again, Michele 🙂
A burger is always good, it must be grilled not fried. If bread is an issue it tastes just fine on a piece of lettuce.
We actually made our burgers this last week with no buns. I liked it. I love to had tons of veggies.
I always make my husband's burgers now without buns since he is diabetic. Thank you for sharing this with us.
I enjoy a grilled hamburger every once in a while. I don't even miss the bread anymore.
Love this we do it often, tip for a healthier option we would take and substitute the fries with zucchini and yellow squash stick and lightly tossed and in olive oil and grilled the sprinkled wit a little parmesan cheese. and on my burger instead of cheddar cheese I use mozzarella slices it is healthier.
A lot of times my husband doesn't eat it on a bun. I also like using different breads for different tastes.
That burger does look delicious. If I have my burger without a bun I usually just top it with some cheddar cheese, squirt on the mustard, and then add sliced onions.
This looks really yummy. I would add some avacado slices though. Oh yes!
This Gluten Free Burger looks delicious with all the trimmings and without the bun!!! My New Year's Resolution is to eat Gluten Free!!! Thank you for the ideas of what to put on it!!! Happy New Year!!!
Oh my goodness that looks delicious. I eat my burgers without the buns. I have never been a huge fan of them anyways, and it just tastes better without it! I love topping my burgers with all sorts of stuff. Avocado is a delicious idea. Healthy and tasty!
I stopped using a bun a few years ago to lose weight and I found that I like it better (unless there is a sweet bun option- foccacia, ciabatta )! I love swiss mushroom burgers too!
I love eating burgers without buns! These look awesome. I could eat one right now!
I am glad to know that I am not the only one who likes burgers without a bun. I prefer mine with Swiss cheese and sautéed mushrooms and onions. It's making my mouth water just thinking about it.
I rarely eat bread at all. It fills me up to the point of being uncomfortable all day. I always eat my burger without a bun. Try some A-1 steak sauce. It's really good.
That is one good looking burger. However, I would have to skip the pickles, cucumbers, and tomatoes.
This looks yummy! Who needs a bun when you can dive into it like that? 🙂
It look so yummy. I like to have my burger without bun sometimes with mushrooms and pepper jack cheese and some tomatoes!
I agree with all the others, this looks incredible! I do love my bun when I am eating a burger but this looks so good I would not even realize I was missing anything while eating it! Basil is really good on burgers, I grew some this summer and thought I would throw it in just to try and I loved it! (kids not so much haha). I love to bbq a big portabello mushroom and make my burgers a " double patty" sometimes. Ahhh i miss summer and being able to access the bbq =)
Ohhhh this looks delicious! Made me hungry! I like my Burger with just Cheese, and Mayo, but I also have it with Avocado every once in a while.
Thanks for the Post, and the Picture!
I would love a burger like this, the bun is always so filling and I want the good stuff instead. OMG this looks sooo delicious!
OMG! Cheddar cheese, mushrooms and basil! Who needs the bun? This sounds so good, you almost don't need the burger! LOL! Toss a little red onion on, and voila! Instant bliss!
Oh man this looks delicious! Im not on a gleuten - free diet and am not worried about gleuten, but I am going to have to give this one a try!
Looks really yummy! Will have to try that when we start grilling more in the spring. Thanks!
That burger sure looks good!!
This sounds delicious! I know what Im making for dinner tonight! 🙂
We love eating our burgers without a bun. Protein, protein, PROTEIN! This looks yummy good. Thank you for sharing... we will definitely be trying it!
Hubby just went gluten free. I'm making this for us!
I live eating a lean sirloin burger off the grill with sauted onions and mushrooms.
Oh wow that looks really yummy! I didn't know you had recipes on here until I started looking around. Love it!
wow that looks so good, im going to try it out, we are trying to cut gluten from our diets, someone told us that it is the cause of excess belly fat too so we are trying to go gluten free, so thanks for the great recipe, my husband is going to love it
I love my hubbys burgers the most! I make a traditional (?) burger, with pickles, onions, ketchup, and mustard. He BBQs them on the grill and they're the juiciest, yummiest burgers ever!
This looks like a delicious burger, much like a hamburger steak. Think of the carbs you will be saving!
I made your recipe. It will now be a regular at our house. It's really, really good! Thank you!

Oh my gosh! You made me drool!! Who needs a bun to hide all this deliciousness!
OMG this looks so yummy, and much more healthy!! Definitely going to try this soon.
thanks for this article, we've been trying to eat a lot less breads. It's not so bad once you get used to it.
This looks so yummy! I gotta try basil on my burger I had never tried this before.
Oh wow that looks really good! Im trying to eat healthier so Im gonna give this a try. My hubby loves his bread but I can do without it so this works for me.
I normally wouldn't eat a burger without a bun,but that burger with the mushrooms looks excellent.I'm going to try that combination the next time we grill.
Oh my, this looks so delicious! I have been trying so hard to watch my carbs, thanks so much for the review!
This looks so yummy!!! Thank you for this awesome recipe. I will be making this for my family and will let you know how they like it!!!
I like how eating the burger without the bun can make it a little more healthier.
you got me here licking the screen that looks absolutely sinful!! i must try this its like bun who??? YUM!
These burgers look great! I love sauteed mushrooms on my hamburger and eating it without the bun saves some calories.
OH yummm! Gosh this really looks so good--that its making me really hungry-- so as soon as I can I need to go eat something-- I really like the idea of NO bun-- the meat always taste so much better--thanks for your review
We have a restaurant near me called Snuffy's that I order a burger just like this...burger no bun. It is delicious. One trick is to order extra lettuce leaves if possible and use them as the faux bun.
I love it just like that with mushrooms and cheese
Yummy
Not a healthy eater by no means but this looks great
This looks amazing! I am on a low carb diet....so a burger without a bun is perfect for me! : )
I have never really had a burger without a bun, but it looks good.
Honestly - I've been eating burgers without the bun - which how my Mom and my Grandma always did as well. So you could say it's been handed down through generations of women on my mothers side. We don't miss the bun at all (and certainly not the empty calories!) - and love the thoughtfulness and creativity the Bunless Burger inspires.
My Honey/Hubby however, has been a harder sell - but I he really seems to be coming around. We've been eating burgers in wrapped in lettuce leaves - which he discovered were not so bad after all - and then he noticed (YAY!) that he was actually losing weight - I mean real significant weight! And all the while he was still enjoying his "almost" burgers!
But I also love your creative (and yummy looking) bunless burger ideas. I think the hardest part is getting the guys to truly "think outside of the bun!" And that's when the fun kicks in. Thanks!
I make my patty a little larger than bun-size and eat it like a HB steak, but I use ground turkey. I watch carbs and yeast products. This looks very good!
I am starting to rethink my diet and go gluten free,
I tried gluten free once for 2 months, I did well sticking with the plan and lost some weight but then got very sick and just couldn't prepare food and switched back to the quick and easy stuff. I want to try going gluten free again to see if it helps with some of my medical issues. This looks so yummy that you have really made me consider trying it again. Thank you.
I've never gone bune-free, but I may have to start now! I'm trying to lose weight and this would be an easy way to cut out refined white flour and empty calories. Your burger looks intriguing too. I've never done fresh basil on a burger before, and now I'm curious to try it mysel!
Unless I have really good bread for my bun I prefer the burger without the bun . expecially if I am having potaotes with it. Your burger looks scrumptuous
I never tried a burger without a bun, guess I thought people would think I was crazy, but I really don't like the buns. this looks so good, I'm making these for supper tonight with the baked fries, also don't like the greasy fries. Thanks for the review and info.
This looks so good. Have to try.
Yumm, a burger with fresh basil - who needs a bun with the flavor of basil?
I have to say this burger looks delicious!!!
I really want to taste this!!
I think this looks great. I would personally do fresh chopped mushrooms as they're more filling and have a great texture. Also tomato and bacon talks to me 😀
Other toppings that are good are lettuce, red onion ( try it sometime instead of white or yellow onion and you'll be a convert also) pickles, chili, different cheeses really set it apart ( I like swiss or monterey jack) and also don't forget sauces! Mustard, dijon mustard, mayo, ketchup, A1, BBQ sauce, all are great flavor options!
Looks great instead of a bun I like to eat mine with lettuce adds a nice crispiness to it. Thanks for sharing
OMG ! This looks delicious. My daughter and I haven't been using buns lately so the burger above is a definite do for me. I love mushrooms and bacon along with some cheddar cheese and a nice juicy slice of tomato with a little oregano on top. Thanks for sharing.
Carol L
wow now thats a burger !
I would give up half the fries before I gave up my bun!! 🙂 But, that plate full looks mighty good! 🙂
I use to eat this a lot!
Oh my goodness! This looks delicious!
I will have to try making burgers without the bun. It is also healthier for you.
Looks delish- I have recently been eating bella "burgers" with havarti.
I prefer to eat my burgers without buns, not so much because of a Gluten concern, but because it cuts out so many carbs and often wasted calories.
That looks delicious! Makes me want to make it now! Even though it's breakfast time! lol
Chili's is one of my favorite places to get a burger without a bun.
I don't have a gluten allergy but this article reminds me of Hereford house in Lees Summit,Missouri It's a steak place they fix Hamburgers for lunch, Where they put all the fixins on the burger. Yes, your burger looks Fantastic. It makes me hungry again. All I ate today was Breakfast and Lunch. So sometimes I don't always eat the third course meal. Good idea for cooking fries on the grill have to try that sometime with the grill.
My 12 year old is trying to be gluten free so this would be good for him. I just would skip the bread for the carbs. Can't imagine that I would miss the bun too much, especially if we still put the toppings on the burger.
This is a great ideal, this is awesome exactly what I need. Trying to do away with not eating bread since it is so fattning.
This looks great! Have to start doing this!
I like my burgers without buns too. The one pictured in this post looks great... I like most anything on my burgers but my favorite would be hot pepper cheese, lettuce, tomato and guacamole.
I usually eat mine with just cheese and BBQ sauce on top but I will have to try the fresh basil!
I like to eat my burger (turkey or chicken) with rice, potatoes, or fries. If you are having fries there really is no reason to have a bun.
This burger looks absolutely delicious! Those pickles look wonderful. If I were to make this burger, I would probably wrap mine in lettuce for an extra serving of veggies!
That looks so good! I don't like to use a bun and don't if I'm at home. It's just wasted calories to hold the good stuff!
I don't have them often but when I do, I've been eating mine without bread for about 12 years now. I have alot of stomach issues and bread tends to hit like lead. I prefer them that way! That burger looks delicious!
This hamburger looks so yummy and even better without the bun I am a big mushroom eater as well not sure about the pickles though Thanks for sharing.
Years ago I had a recipe for a spinach stuffed burger with a reddish brown sauce. I wish I could find it. It was delicious.
Great idea and it looks so delicious. We're always grilling burgers around here; beats the heat of an non air conditioned kitchen and adds flavor, too!
So many good ideas here for different ways to enjoy a burger without the bread!
What a great way to have a hamburger. I've never had a hamburger without a bun but the next time I have one it's going to be without one. And I think I'll have a little side salad on the side.
that looks so good.:)
I've started eating my burgers or sandwiches with just one part of the bread, so maybe eventually I can get to no buns!
This looks so good may have to try it.
This looks so good! I would definitely make this.
Thanks for the recipe!
I also don't like to eat my burgers with a bun.I'm not a big fan of bread anyways.I like the idea of wrapping the burger in lettuce.I like my burgers with onions, pickles, tomatoes, and lettuce.
Such a great idea..when kids were little Id sometimes make them patties..never thought to do it now. M kids love piing things on theirs and this wa the could get it in their mouths better....lol...I want to tr this with bacon and guacamole..I know my daughter wil want to do a stuffed burger....cant wait to try
I agree with HC: Large Portobello mushrooms make excellent and tasty and healthy buns! YUM!
I like burgers with a bun. I think you can put more toppings on without a bun. My favorite is to add sauteed mushrooms or sauteed onions with crumbled bacon on. We have them quite frequently like this.
I've been gathering recipes and ideas for going gluten free as I'm told more and more it would help with my MS. Thanks for sharing this!
Looks awesome! Thank you for a great recipe with a carb free gluten free option... 🙂
Those burgers of yours look delicious! We've always called gunless burgers Protein Burgers. I love them... Often I do have a bun, but not made of bread. Large Portobello mushrooms make excellent and tasty and healthy buns!
That looks good, and I don't need the carbs. But I'd chuck the pickles, add sauted onion, and use swiss rather than cheddar cheese.
Perfect for me.....I have Type 2 Diabetes and don't need the carbs anyway. The burger looks so delicious and I can't wait to try it.
I make mine with turkey patty, teriyaki sauce, lettuce, and sauteed onions
I have eaten a burger with no bun before to cut out the carbs. I like mine on a bun most of the time though with tomato, lettuce, cheese and bacon. I don't eat burgers a lot so it is okay to indulge when i do eat it!
What a great idea, not only is it a gluten free option but great for those nights when you want a burger and dont have any buns!!
This would be good, cuz I have type 2 diabetes
looks good
Looks so good. I will have to try this one!
This is definitely the way to go, it's how I eat my burger and I love it. Get creative with different toppings like bacon and sauteed onions in balsamic vinegar.
looks good
I've sliced the burger and then placed it on a green salad. Put shredded cheese on top.
Now this is my kind of burger!!! I don't like any kind of bread at all so this would be a perfect hamburger for me!! Looks soooooo yummy. Thanks for the review.
I like burgers without buns, I was going low carb for a while and ate them like that. Wrapping it in lettuce is a brilliant idea!
I never use a burger bun. Whenever I try to eat bread I get full to the point of feeling ill. I like a grilled cheeseburger with sauteed mushroom, onion and A-1 steak sauce.
