Can you eat raw cookie dough?
The short answer is now especially the ones with raw eggs and some say raw flour. That said because so many people love cookie dough you can now buy safe and ready to eat cookie dough where they’ve substituted the raw egg for safer ingredients. Just make sure to read the label as it should say that it’s safe to eat the dough, if it doesn’t then don’t get that one. We’ve seen lots of options at places like Walmart and Safeway.
That said if you’d like to make your own safe raw cookie dough there are lots of recipes out there like this one that we found from Recipe Girl. Make sure any raw cookie dough recipe doesn’t call for raw eggs and that they say to toast the flour.
We went with the quicker route and bought ready to eat sugar cookie dough to make this cookie dough truffle recipe even easier! While you don’t need it and can use a fork I have found that for dipping well almost anything from these truffles to strawberries I like having a chocolate dipping set. It’s come in handy for more than one recipe like our Chocolate Coconut Bon Bons or as my southern friend has told me are also referred to as Martha Washington Candies. Whatever you want to call them they’re delicious

- 12 caramel eggs
- Chocolate chips
- Sprinkles or shaved chocolate or chocolate drizzle (optional)
What can you use to decorate cookie dough truffles?
While we kept this cookie dough truffle recipe simple and just finished them with sprinkles there are so many options you can do. You can sprinkle toasted coconut, drizzle chocolate on top of the chocolate shell, add crushed nuts and more. The ideas are endless only limited by what you like or don’t like.

This Chocolate Coated Cookie Dough Truffle with caramel egg inside makes a delicious treat that uses store-bought ready to eat cookie dough making it even easier to make!
Ingredients
- 1 roll of cook or eat sugar dough
- 12 caramel eggs
- 2 cups of chocolate chips
- Sprinkles (to garnish)
Instructions
- Unroll the dough and flatten a small amount in your hand. Place a unwrapped caramel egg into the dough and roll the dough around it.
- Place rolled dough into the freezer for 5 minutes.
- Melt chocolate and dip the balls into the melted chocolate and return to the plate to set.
- Garnish with sprinkles. *see notes
