Concannon Conservancy Petite Sirah Wine 2008

As I mentioned in my very first Red Wine of the weekend post which was about a Shannon Ridge Petite Sirah (see it HERE). I promised I would share when I could any other wines I try and what I think about them. I generally go for red wines but I do enjoy a nice rosee and very occasionally a white wine. As I've said before I'm not a wine expert at all, I'm just sharing what I've tried, the good, the bad and the ugly.

This weekend it was the Concannon Conservancy Petite Sirah 2008. I've been on a kick with Petite Sirah's apparently and I'm happy to say I quite enjoyed this one as well. When I do have a glass of wine it is usually only on the weekends and hubby and I will share the bottle over the weekend.

Here are some interesting notes from Concannon's website about this wine:

Their  Conservancy wines help protect precious California vineyard land from urban development, as all Conservancy winegrowers have placed their land into a legal trust that protects against development forever. The Conservancy wines preserve not only the land but a simpler way of life for future generations.

Winemaker Notes:

The 2010 Petite Sirah, Conservancy has fantastic depth and character. It exhibits a rich nose of fresh blackberries, cassis and has a flavorful palate of cherries, plums and mocha. Subtle notes of cedar, cocoa and earth tone lead to a smooth, silky finish.

Food Pairing:

Cider-Glazed Chicken with Browned Butter-Pecan Rice.

Interesting, I didn't have it with chicken etc.. It is by no means a fruity wine, it's subtle, very subtle you can maybe catch the taste of blackberries and plum. I found it to be a bit similar to the Shannon Ridge Petite Sirah that I tried. They both have super subtle (I have to stress how subtle) berry undertones and the dark chocolate. No wonder I like them both so much!

I bought mine for about $12 at grocery store in Washington state, near the Vancouver, BC border. I'm sure it can be bought for less. They don't have the 2008 on the Concannon website, they do have the 2010 which sells for $18 on their site.

On a different note the bottle itself is much heavier glass than any other wine bottles I've come across so far. It was noticeably heavier which was interesting so I'm keeping the bottle to use as a decoration, maybe put a candle top on it.

There you have it my red wine of the weekend feel free to share your favorite wines in the comment section below we love to read about them!

  2. Thank you for posting such a wonderfully written review. I am also a red wine drinker, with the occasional white. I am not very fond of the blush wines. This sounds like it would make a great "Wine Spritzer". Thank you for the information.
