Try a Taste of Spain with Espuna Tapas Essentials
Espuna Tapas Essentials has some tasty treats
Not being a chef myself, I don’t venture out to products I’m not familiar with. However, Espuna Tapas Essentials makes trying new things exciting. Tapas Essentials are always made with pork raised with no antibiotics and they are authentically Spanish.
Espuna began in 1947 when Esteve Espuna began making cured and uncured sausages in a manor house. Today, Espuna has been voted 8 times Product of the Year awards, has plants all over the world, became an international business to including Europe, Argentina and a cold meats facility in Utrillas Spain.
Epuna has a Tapas line. Tapas is the word used to describe a wide variety of appetizers or snacks. They may be cold, such as a mix of meats and cheeses. Tapas can be hot, such as chopitos (battered, fried baby squid). But, in Spain, Tapas has evolved into a sophisticated cuisine.
For Espuna, their Tapas line includes a cold, dry cured sliced Spanish Serrano ham. This ham is sold in 3-ounce packages, shipped all over the world. To me, this ham is like prosciutto. It’s thinly cut, dry cured, Italian.
Being similar to prosciutto, this ham can be used in a variety of dishes and recipes. I can think of many recipes that can be made using Tapas Serrano Ham. Try making a gourmet grilled cheese with yummy, gooey cheeses and specialty bread. You can put it on pizza for a twist on a traditional meal.
If a dry cured (or uncured) summer sausage, you can try Tapas Chorizo Rings. They are all natural, only being made with non-antibiotic raised pork. They also have no nitrates added. Their ingredients are simple such as pork, salt and pepper, paprika, and garlic. Espuna stays as true to the meat as possible.
Espuna offers their chorizo rings in Hot, Original, and Fuet. Fuet is a Catalan thin, dry cured, sausage, made of pork meat in a pork gut. It’s made with finely minced fat and lean pork meat seasoned with few ingredients.
Using these meats on a tray, like for appetizers fit the Tapas definition. These sausages remind me of summer sausage that could be made out of any meat including venison, pork, or beef. I am a country girl and we used deer meat for everything. The Tapas line of sausages reminds me of the dried deer sausages the men would eat while hunting.
