Of all the times that you want and need to look your best, a first date with a new love interest is up there with – and probably just ahead of – a job interview. Looking good means feeling good, so getting your hair and make-up right before a date is crucial.
The question is, what is the right hair and make-up combination for you? Also, how can you spot a style that simply does not work? How can you be expected to know the difference?
Do not worry, this article will tell you everything you need to know about styling so that you can go on your first date with your (perfectly coiffed) head held high, confident you look as good as you possibly can.
Tools of the trade
Wherever you purchase your beauty supplies, making sure you have a good array of make-up colours and styles, as well as hair accessories and products, is key to getting the look right. Here are five tips to making sure you look your best on your big night.
1. Add a hair accessory.
Don’t want to wear your hair down, but worried that pulling it all up looks too glam or a bit severe? A hair accessory could be just the answer. Whether it’s a glittery butterfly, a simple slide or a comb, adding an accessory to your current do allows you to update and change your look from whatever you’ve been rocking in the daytime without having to spend a huge amount of time (and indeed talent) you may not have getting an ‘up-do’ just right.
2. Red or bright lipstick.
Red lipstick has always screamed confidence, but you don’t have to be bold or brash to wear it. Any bright colour will do and if you make the rest of your make-up understated, it will really stand out without being OTT. The best bit? Bright lip colour instantly updates your daytime look into something a little more flirty.
Wear it like a pro
3. Smoky eyes.
Smoky eyes are another beauty classic that can have an amazing effect. Black is the traditional colour to use, although grey tones and blues have both also been en vogue in recent months. Just layer up the colour gradually and you won’t go wrong
4. Half and half.
The half-up, half-down hairstyle has been a hit with celebrities on the red carpet in recent months. More glamorous than wearing all of your hair down, but easier to do and less formal than wearing it all up, this is a style that screams both elegance and effortless chic. Try tonging the underside into some loose curls and ensure the up part is held in place quite loosely and glamour will be yours.
5. Blusher.
Blusher is a make-up staple that many are afraid of, fearing tiger stripes on the cheeks that refuse to blend in; however, a small amount of a light pink blusher, blended in well, can work wonders on a tired, wan face, transforming it into a healthy visage. The secret is not to use too much and to concentrate on the apples of the cheeks, which are the bits that stick out when you smile.

Yes, I agree about not being able to pull off red lipstick, but a hair accessory could be just the thing I need.

Thank you, I need to make it a habit to put my makeup on everyday, I always feel better. I forwarded this to my 15 yr old is on the verge of dating; she just went to her first Prom and refused to let me do her makeup, but she let her friends mom do it.
