Capturing our special family moments with the Fuji X-A3 Camera – Review
It’s the month of love and what better time to capture family moments than with a Fuji X-A3 camera. It’s the perfect camera for families and more!

What is a mirrorless camera?
I had to look into that myself. So let me share that with you and my top reasons why I LOVE the Fuji X-A3 camera. I’ve left all the photos I took with this camera unedited with the exception of doing some cropping so that you can see the quality before editing. You’ll be wowed.
It is a digital camera that accepts different lenses but does not have the mirror and optical viewfinder that is in SLR cameras. This helps to keep the size and weight of the camera down. The body of the camera is also thinner than a digital SLR (DSLR).
Here’s what came in my camera kit (strap not shown in photo). The lens is a Fujifilm’s Interchangeable Lens XC 15-50mm F3.5-5.6 OIS II. If you want to get the full scoop on the technical details/features of this fabulous camera go to their site HERE.
Fuji X-A3 the perfect family camera
The Fuji X-A3 camera is ideal for me since I’m a beginner. It offers both point-and-shoot options as well as manual functions for those who are more proficient photographers. I think of myself as someone whose not quite a newbie but is not yet proficient at everything on the SLR. When I travel for work whether it’s overseas or local it’s not always practical for me to take an SLR camera with me but I want to be able to take stunning photos. The Fuji X-A3 will be my go-to camera for travel, family photos & more.
There are so many amazing features and I can’t wait to try them all. A beginner can get started and still take great photos but make time to learn all the features. It’s already bringing a whole new level to my photography and I’m stunned with some of the photos I’ve captured.
Now let’s talk about some of my favourite features. There are so many so I’m just going to list some of them.
Retro Design & Bundle
The Fuji X-A3 comes bundled with the XC 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 OIS II lens and you have a choice of three colors: silver, brown or pink. I was so tempted to get pink but I suspected hubby would protest. I got brown which is what I think of as cocoa colour. The retro feel gives a “fresh” and “fashionable” impression. The top cover, front plate and top dials are made of aluminum.
Selfies
This is probably one of my daughter’s favourite features but when the three of us are doing a family outing we can take a family photo together with ease. The Fuji X-A3 has a 180° tilting LCD screen for better selfies. The rear LCD employs the slide-and-tilt mechanism so that it is not blocked by the camera body when tilted by 180 degrees to maintain 100% visibility.
Selfie prep
I want to mention that with the 24MP APS-C sensor on this camera you get better image quality in low light situations which is fabulous for evening outings. It’s also easier to isolate the subject from the background, giving you more control of depth of field. I love that.
Here’s a selfie from my daughter. The grip design of the camera makes it easy to take a self-portrait. I have small hands so knowing I can securely hold my camera while shooting a selfie is important. Here’s what it looks like to see the LCD screen when it’s in selfie mode. I adore the LCD touchscreen. You can enable “Touch AF”, “Touch Shoot” and “Touch Zoom” where you use the pinch-out finger to use a prime lens as if it’s a zoom lens. I love that. I find it easier to get it to focus on the subject of the photo. This is one feature I don’t have on any of my other cameras.
Remember I said earlier there are so many features I can’t list them all. Well here’s a peek at some.
Image Quality and Film Simulation
My favourite feature is really two. First the image quality is stunning. It’s made possible by their newly-developed 24.2 megapixel image sensor. You can read more technical details on that HERE. Then when you start to explore the advanced filters you can go crazy with artistic photography but it’s so easy to do, just select the option
Here’s but one example of the image quality. Remember this photo has not been edited. She’s my little Valentine.I’m always taking photos of my family and that includes our dogs and cat. I just love to go back and look at the moments that made me smile, laugh, made my heart swell and well were just special.
How about this one where I zoomed in on my daughter’s eyes. That girl and her Elizabeth Taylor lashes.
Our Little Zeus (LZ) ends up in a lot of photos because well he’s just adorable and he’s easier to snap a photo of sitting still.
I can make colours even more vibrant just by selecting that mode like in the photo below.
How about a “pop” of colour against a black and white background?
Examples of some of the other filters. This one shows the same scene with two different filters.
Toy Camera Filter
Ollie the cat was a little harder to capture on camera these last few days. He was not very cooperative so I selected their sports mode and multiple photos and held down the button to get a series of photos quickly.
A family moment wouldn’t be the same without our girl Luna. She’s our senior dog who is blind but oh what a sweetie.
These are just a few of the photos I’ve taken over the last few days. Imagine all the fun I’m going to have capturing all our family moments. The Fuji X-A3 camera is perfect for families and for my work too. This amateur photographer is capturing fabulous photos with ease.
Okay one more photo if you insist 🙂
