Gingerbread Cookies and More for the Holidays

Gingerbread Cookies, Shortbread Cookies & More from Krusteaz.

I was lucky enough to receive from the folks over at Krusteaz an assortment of their cookie mixes, an apron and some cookie cutters to help me get my holiday baking done this year and as it happens December 4th (today as I post) is National Cookie Day in the US! Thank Krusteaz!

The first cookie mix I tried was the Gingerbread Cookies oh yum yum. What do you think do they look good?

Now the gingerbread cookies were not the only ones I received. I actually received FIVE different kinds of mixes and got two of each box, oh lucky me and my family!

Now I have to admit that I wasn't sure any cookie mixes would stand up to our home made versions as we've spent a lot of time over the years perfecting our cookie recipes especially my gingerbread cookie (or ginger cookies or ginger snaps however you want to call them) recipe. Well lo and behold our first batch of cookies that we made from the Krusteaz cookie mixes the Gingerbread Cookies passed my family's taste test.

It's Powered by Mom and family approved AND it took me half the time to bake these gingerbread cookies compared to my ones from scratch, dang! Of course I haven't told the family that it took half the time, what they don't know gives mom time to have a gingerbread cookie and Pumpkin Spice Mocha 😉 !

This is how easy it was to make them. Put gingerbread cookie mix in a big bowl, add 1 egg, softened butter, oil and stir. You will most likely want to had mix a bit but other than that there you go, done.

I always also dip gingerbread cookies in sugar to get that lovely coating after they're baked.

Each batch took about 11 minutes to bake. One box can do about 18 fairly big cookies or you can get at least two dozen for some more petite ones. As you can see below ours are fairly big cookies. My family would love it if I would just put them all out in a tray like this and let them have at it. I seriously have to hide them to keep them from eating them!

Since my actual prep time was cut in half I had more time afterwards to think of ways to present the cookies as gifts or do some finishing touches.

You can add sprinkles like I did above although the green doesn't pop I am going to try red or white sprinkles or silver hmmm. You can also try colored sugar and put them in tins or wrap in stacks in colorful or clear cellophane or just tie with ribbons. Now I didn't have time to do all of those yet but it's going to be fun getting them ready for gifts, if we don't eat them all first lol

I'll be doing the shortbread cookies next and will probably put those in holiday tins as it's easy and they're re-useable. For now though I'm going to go and have myself a gingerbread cookie and one of my pumpkin spiced mochas (recipe HERE) and then it will be more baking this weekend thanks to Krusteaz!

  1. Your cookies look so good, I could just reach out and grab one. I have never tried making gingerbread cookies out of a mix. This is one I am trying this year. I hope my look as good as yours. My Granddaughter and her friends will love these and will be easier for them to help me make them. I'm going to make round an Gingerbread People.

  4. Gingerbread cookies are my favorite for the season. I really like Kruteaz products and have always made mine from scratch. I may try this brand this year for the ease of it.

  7. They look so easy, and adding the sugar is a nice touch. I bought some zombie gingerbread men cookie cutters and just need to bake some cookies to use them!

  13. I love to bake and share the goodies with my family and friends. I am very particular about what ingredients I use so I am not always on board with boxed cookie mixes. I am very pleased to read your review and have great results with your baking and do it in half the time as made from scratch cookies. Great option for me!

  14. WOW! I did not know that December 4th is National Cookie Day in the US!! Do we have a "day" for everything? What good is it if no one knows it exits?? YES - these cookies look & sound delicious!! Thanks for the tip: "I always also dip gingerbread cookies in sugar to get that lovely coating after they’re baked." I think it is a very good suggestion! PINNED!

  15. I would love these, if they're soft cookies? They look soft, cookies should just be soft. I prefer them all that way. XD Okay, aside from a few types I guess. Hmmmm...
I would love to try these cookies, they look yummy! I think a thicker type of sprinkle would be more noticeable than the sugar type.

  17. I'm laughing because I hide cookies too, or they would all be gone in one day. Well if they tasted almost as good as your own recipe, that is a good review! Thanks for sharing.

  18. I like that you made a easy cookie that looked homemade without all the fuss. I use their Gingerbread mix to create ginger mounds. Add 1/3 cup of water to the mix, 1 cup of chopped almonds (or whatever nuts) and 1 cup raisins. Roll into balls and bake for 10 min at 350.

  19. My family and I love the Krusteaz brand of products and we have tried many of their cookie mixes, but we haven't seen some of these where we shop. I'll have to keep looking for them at other stores as I'm out Christmas shopping for gifts.

  22. your "actual prep time was cut in half "--now THAT'S a great selling point! I prefer homemade (making them) but when you've made 4 or 5 different kinds homemade, the relief it is to finish your baking agenda up with a prep time helper, sure does the trick for me

  27. Like you, I like the fact that there is something that can make things a little easier during the holidays and that can cut my holiday baking time. I already love other Krusteaz products like the blueberry pancake/waffle mix and the Belgian Waffle Mix. I have been using those for several years now and just know I will love their cookie mixes. Thanks for the great giveaway and the opportunity to win them. But win or not, I will definitely be buying some at my local store if they carry them.
