.Let’s Talk Girl Power Netflix Picks
Earlier this month it was International Woman’s Day but we think we can celebrate that all month (or even all year) long. So we’re sharing some of our top Netflix picks that are all about girl power and/or they at least have a strong female character.
Deidra & Laney Rob a Train
After their mother ends up in jail, two sisters turn to train robbery in order to support their family. You just might be surprised by this one.
Studies have shown that girls as young as six are influenced by gender stereotypes, and that role models from the entertainment they choose can have a lasting effect. Rest assured, Netflix is home to girls who mean business and that’s something all kids can get behind! Whether it’s Violet’s quick wit, Elena’s activist mentality, or Deidra & Laney’s unorthodox thinking, there’s something for every girl to relate to. Strong female characters aren’t just important for girls, boys are also growing up with Eleven saving the crew and Tip showing that true friendship knows no bounds.
I love this video and message: You Don’t Need To Fit in to Stand Out | Netflix
We love the reboot of One Day at a Time.
A newly single Latina mother raises her teen daughter and tween son with the “help” of her old-school mom.
The Gilmore Girls
The Gilmore Girls always a good one for a dose of girl power and the struggles that come with it.
Always a favourite of mine Jessica Jones.Haunted by a traumatic past, Jessica Jones uses her gifts as a private eye to find her tormentor before he can harm anyone else in Hell’s Kitchen.
Of course there are many more but I just wanted to share some favourites for now.
