Go Green for your Carpet Cleaning

in Family and Home on 12/28/12

Powered by Mom Blog is trying to go green as much as possible how about you?

I’ve shared before that my house does not have carpet in it with the exception of an 8 x 10 area rug. I  received this area rug  a few months ago and I love it and of course I want to ensure we take the best possible care of it so that it last well for as long as we want it.

Here is a picture of my area rug 🙂

When I received the rug I started to think about how I’m going to take care of it as I haven’t had to worry about any carpets/rugs for a long time. It’s important for me to keep it clean as I have allergies and we have two dogs and one cat as well. In the past when we did have carpets (I’m talking over 10 years ago) I did not like the carpet cleaning that was available back then. I found that after the carpets were cleaned by companies there was a chemical smell that lingered. Not only am I sensitive to such smells it made my allergies flare up for several days afterwards.

Thank goodness that today we have made such wonderful progress that we now have the options of using eco-friendly non-toxic cleaning supplies you can also find yourself an eco-friendly carpet cleaning company too. Whether you’re in British Columbia, Washington, California, Florida or you want wool rug cleaning in Maryland you can find a company that uses all natural cleansers. Thank goodness we have the choices now and we can go green for the really the same costs or lower as using those nasty, toxic chemicals. Save yourself the headache and more and go with eco-friendly cleaning companies and products. Don’t you think it’s worth it to go green? Feel free to comment below we love to hear from you!

It is nice to know there is an alternative to using harsh chemicals for cleaning your carpets. My family members do have allergies, & certain chemical smells trigger migraines for me. I also have my grand daughter who lives with me & her toys are always on the rug, she loves playing on the floor. Plus, it means alot less chemicals entering our earth & water supply.

I read this post with much interest because I also have a fairly new, large room area carpet and although I vaccum it often I didn’t really think about “cleaning” it. I have a small dog and I wouldn’t wnt to harm him with chemicals!

I try to be as Eco-conscious as possible with everything. I DO use a pro carpet cleaning service once or twice a year (five dogs and a cat!), but am considering taking the carpet out of the dining room. That may help with cleanups.

We try to be green as much as possible due to allergies in our family and asthma. Our rental has carpet in most areas except living/dining/kitchen etc. We are currently house hunting and it irks me to see carpet in dining rooms!

I’m just in awe at how lovely your rug is!! Before moving to Utah we lived in Maryland and I was highly impressed at how very natural and green that Maryland is turning. We had most of our furniture cleaned before moving and they used green products. Thanks for making people aware!!

No unfortunately I’m diverting my attention to other areas now like just keeping the germs at bay but I am working on recycling and I found a website maybe recyclebank? but it was a link from pampers where you could box all plastic packaging and send it out to be recycled while earning points for free stuff. I do also donate a lot of things so I guess I’m not so bad. I would like to cook but I have to want to..problem area there.

I agree with you on going green when it comes to carpet cleaning, as I have lupus and allergies, so smells and residues drive me crazy. I did go green once with a company that used a citrus based cleaner and a carpet scrubber, which I do not recommend… I wound up with worse carpet than I started with after a month.

I live in a tiny town so trying to get a local company to “go green” or even find one is nearly impossible… this is Texas…lol.. so, I have been doing what I can to take care of the few area rugs we have ( I too am not a fan of carpet…so we replaced all of them with bamboo hardwood over the last year) and generally that means a mixture of baking soda and other things… It works, especially with a great vacuum, but I’d love to have a company take care of them for me and do a better job!
