Powered by Mom Blog is working towards an even healthier 2013 how about you?!

Great Saunas has teamed up with a eight Great North American Bloggers to giveaway an infrared sauna (retail value $2,400) to one lucky reader and POWERED BY MOM  is one of those 8 bloggers yay!

Open to US & Canada*

Powered by Mom started down the road to a healthier year last year and is going to keep going! We're going to keep doing what we were doing last year and make a few more changes too. Great Saunas, located in Waterloo Ontario, has helped 1000's of clients attain their wellness goals through detoxification, pain relief, relaxation and ultimately rejuvenation.  Resolutions are unique, especially when it comes to our health.   Infrared saunas provides health benefits to those who suffer from specific ailments, assists in reducing stress, and stimulates wonderful skin, keeping you looking young and radiant. Here's what we have and will continue to do:

Healthier food choices by incorporating more vegetables, fruits and lean proteins. What does that mean? Well we've been trying to ensure we have at least one fresh veggie or fruit with each meal and instead of fatty meats all of the time something leaner. That doesn't mean we're cutting out some of our favorite foods just revamping them a bit. A great example is that we love our beef around here and simply can't give it up. So we choose cuts with less fat, we've been using extra lean ground beef for over one year now and when we can we even substitute that with ground bison or moose which have even less fat! If I plan our meals in advance and ensure we have the fresh veggies on hand then we get our fresh veggie at every meal.

Planning is so key it has made the difference in eating healthier the majority of the time from only some of the time when I haven't planned our meals. If you have the healthier snacks on hand whether at work or at home you can go for those and won't be as tempted for the junkier stuff.  One of my favorite snacks is popcorn! It can be healthy and you can make it sweet or salty or both! As long as you watch how much butter, salt or sugar you put on it, this can be a far healthier options that chips, cookies and other salty and sweet snacks.

It's also good to remember that it's not worth it to deprive yourself of something you really like, if you go cold turkey on it you may crave it more. I allow my self to indulge (but not over-indulge) here and then to satisfy a strong craving and I just try not to go overboard. Don't make yourself feel guilty just indulge in moderation it makes a big difference.

New goals for this is year is that I'm aiming to increase my minimum 3x/week of exercise to at least 4x/week. I do 4x/week of cardio and strength training some of the time anyways so now it's time to make it the majority of the time. Those are my main focuses which may not seem like a lot but for me it's taking the small steps that will and have added up already. With our healthier food choices mentioned above and including more anti-oxidant rich foods, omega 3s and more in our diet both my daughter and I last year had our healthiest year yet. She's was away from school less for being sick. Since the 2012/13 school year started she's now having an amazing year and we want to continue to do that!
