Powered by Mom shares Healthy Shopper - Gluten Free and More Goodies

Many of you know that Powered by Mom and family try to eat as healthy as possible the majority of the time. So when we do have something that is not as healthy to eat we don't feel so guilty about it. One of the reason that I love Healthy Shopper picks is that it gives me so many fabulous ideas for meals and snacks that are tasty and yes healthy too!

For this round of healthy shopper items I got to explore the world of gluten-free products and foods a bit more. I was thrilled about this as I have been trying out a few gluten-free recipes here and there but I need more ideas and I got them!

Healthy Shopper

For the first time I had the pleasure of trying some of  Pamela’s gluten free products. Specifically their baking and pancake mix, chocolate cake mix and their artisan flour blend. My daughter and husband can be quite picky about foods especially when it comes to their baked goods. Imagine my delight when they both loved the chocolate cupcakes I made AND they had no idea they were gluten-free. To share the baked love my daughter took some cupcakes to a friend's house and shared it with her friend and siblings. My daughter came home to tell me that her friend send I made the best cupcakes ever. Now that is a compliment and testament to how good the Pamela's Cake Mix was, it was simply delicious.

Here's a picture of those yummy cupcakes baking in the oven that we made. Better yet I didn't feel so guilty about eating one, I'm not going to get a wheat belly from these goodies!

The finished product before they were all devoured. I even put one of these cupcakes in my daughter's lunch bag as a treat (without icing). It tastes good, she loved them but it's lower in sugar and has tons of good ingredients.

One of our favorite meals to have is pancakes or waffles for breakfast. I will usually make a big batch so that we have some left over for the next day. I can honestly say that the Pamela's baking and pancake mix is now my favorite mix. I made both waffles and pancakes with it and they were delicious. Again, we really did not notice any difference with these compared to wheat pancakes and waffles. So now we're gluten free when we're having pancakes or waffles.

Here's our pancakes cooking. As you can see they turn a nice golden color. They cook a little quicker than wheat pancakes I found so you can't leave them unattended.

Finished product  (we snuck in chocolate chips into the batter) with yes you got it bacon, sorry but some things we can't give up LOL

As I mentioned the waffles were just as yummy as you can see they look great. You can also see the recipe I used for the waffles HERE

I also liked to make cheddar biscuits with the gluten-free flour and have them as part of a meal or snack. Gluten-free muffins are also fabulous in anyone's lunch, so far my favorite is a banana chocolate chip one we've made. They were devoured so quickly I didn't even have time to take a picture. There are so many fabulous snack and meal ideas that you can have gluten-free

The Healthy Shopper also included such picks as Olympic Krema Greek Style Yogurt because it’s one of the creamiest yogurts on the market, and uses only 100% natural ingredients without preservatives, gelatins or gluten. We only eat Greek Style Yogurt and we love the Olympic brand. Yogurt always makes it into either my lunch or breakfast.  They also had Kiju juice boxes, which are 100% certified organic juice boxes that are naturally flavoured without any sugar. If you send juice with your kids to school then I recommend going with Kiju.

Simply Natural organic ketchup and mustards are The Healthy Shopper pick for condiments as healthier alternatives to traditional condiments for sandwiches, hamburgers or to add into our favourite comfort foods this season. All Simply Natural condiments are organic, fat free, with zero trans fats and do not contain high fructose corn syrup, one of the “Scary 7” ingredients the Healthy Shopper recommends avoiding.

  1. Thanks for the Wonderful Review on Healthy Shopper – Gluten Free Time! I've always been afraid to purchase a mix which is Gluten Free because some of the Gluten Free items which I have tried had no flavor and it was like eating cardboard! I've noticed over the last 6 months, my grocery store has been adding a lot of Gluten Free and "healthy" foods. I know I searched all over for coconut oil and they didn't have it. Now, they carry coconut oil, coconut flour, coconut juice, etc. They have a bunch of Gluten Free mixes as well and the section which was for the "healthier" food has gotten larger and carries more products! The things all of the bloggers talk about using, they now carry in my store! I was shocked and surprised all at the same time! I'll have to see if I can sneak a Gluten Free mix home and make it and see how it goes! Thanks for sharing your wonderful review, all the pictures, and your personal and professional opinions on Healthy Shopper – Gluten Free Time with all of us! I always appreciate your reviews! Thanks again! Michele 🙂

  3. I have a feeling that your daughter and husband liked the chocolate cupcakes more because 1) they were chocolate and 2) you made them, skillfully! Those waffles look amazing, too! I can't believe you made them.. they look better than any waffles I've ever seen, gluten free or otherwise.
