Helping Older Pets Live Their Best life

Pets are often more than just companions, they are some of our best friends and family members. As pets get older it can be tough to watch them struggle with sore joints, tummy upsets, and general lack of enjoying life. I adopted Chewie when he was 1 year and 1 month old. This year he turned 15. This is why I was so happy to try Petly CBD oil that not only helps my older pets live their best life but also helps ensure his younger "sister" of a cat continues a long healthy life.

Is CBD Safe for my Pet?

Older Pets

The first thing I want to address is this main concern. I obviously don't want to give my senior cat anything that might affect him negatively. And CBD is a fairly new trend. And while there has not been a ton of official research regarding CBD and pets, everything there has been indicates that CBD has zero side effects for pets. Some people noted a bit of sedation, but in my case, I notice my senior cat is actually more active. Probably because he feels better overall.

My senior cat has sore joints. I can tell by how he moves. He was also quite clumsy when he was younger. I swear, I've never known a more clumsy but loving cat. This makes it tough for him to chew regular kibble because he knocked a couple of front teeth out when he was two years old from running around with the zoomies into a wall. Since placing a dropper full of this CBD oil on his food, he is able to eat more of the kibble, in addition to his wet food. He is a lot more active and doesn't move around like he is sore anymore! Some people say that it has helped their pets with seasonal allergies, asthma, seizures, and anxiety.

What is In It?

For the pets, CBD oil is simple. It is CBD oil and MCT coconut oil. I was worried my cats wouldn't like the taste, but so far they've been eating all of their food that I put it on! They seem to be excited about it too. For my 8-year-old cat, I have noticed that she has had fewer hairballs since I started adding the oil to the food. The MCT oil could really be helping her with that! It not only builds up the strength and health of the fur, but the oil helps my cats' digestion as well. And a single dropper does not seem to give them the runs. Too much MCT oil can do that, so do not go over the recommended dosage.

It has been so much fun watching my 15-year-old Chewie cat run around, play, and jump with less issues these days. He and his sister play and rough house like they are both kittens. I have not had to deal with hairballs, and both cats seem to love the oil. I also love that Petly gives back a portion of the sale each and every product to help pets in need. They have CBD oils for cats of all sizes, as well as oil and treats for small, medium, and large dogs. I look forward to seeing their line expand as I'm sure my cats would love their very own treats as well.

Don't forget to PIN it!

  1. This is definitely something I want to look into purchasing for my almost 17 year old super senior gentleman cat, Jerry. By the way, commercial dry cat food is terrible for cats. It is full of carbs, which cats don’t need, since they are carnivores. I had to learn this the hard way, when my Jerry became diabetic back in 2018. He is in full remission now, thanks to an all canned nearly carb free diet.

  2. I have a little herd (clowder) of seniors including 3 brothers (from 2 litters - fed their feral Mom). Two of those boys are 18 and the third will be 18 in March. Unfortunately he has some sort of a mass so I know our time is waning and it's killing me.

  3. Awww. I really want to one day go pick out elderly pets at shelters and give them a home for the rest of their years. Not realistic right now as I have kids coming out my ears, lol, but one day.

    • Yes if you Google info on it there are lots of examples to show that CBD oil should help pets for anxiety and calming. Just make sure you get ones for pets and follow any instructions carefully.

  4. One of my cats is a senior and has arthritis which seems to make him very uncomfortable. I think this is something for me to consider trying.
