Contest Shines a Light on Overlooked Adoptable Shelter Dogs

I'm so excited to share that Pecturean has an amazing online contest open to rescue groups and animal shelters in Seattle, Oregon, Vancouver, BC and Toronto. This contest's main goal is to help the underdog, those adoptable rescue and shelter dogs who get overlooked due to either age, appearance or other issues. So let's shine a light on these sweet and adoptable shelter dogs! One Lucky Adoptable Rescue or Shelter Dog Will Win Free Food for Life

We dedicate this post to our shelter dog Little Zeus aka LZ who crossed the Rainbow Bridge May 20, 2018. We had 10 wonderful years with him and every rescue and shelter dog deserves a loving forever home. shelter dogsAs part of its commitment to putting pets first, premium pet food manufacturer, Petcurean, “Uplift the Underdogs Contest,” online contest is open to all rescue groups and animal shelters located in Seattle, Portland, Vancouver, BC, Toronto and their surrounding areas. Open now through June 1, the contest will help increase adoption consideration for “underdogs” – dogs who are traditionally less likely to get adopted due to age, appearance, or other issues. By inspiring people to see beyond these so-called imperfections and focus on the amazing heart and spirit of the dogs, the contest will help underdogs find the loving homes they deserve.

In 2017, nearly 13,000 dogs were rescued by the Seattle Humane Society and Oregon Humane Society alone1. When you factor in dogs rescued by other local rescue groups and shelters, this already impressive number climbs much higher.  While some dogs get adopted very quickly, others have a much harder time finding their forever home.rescue dogsOur sweet rescue dog LZ loved to sleep in our laundry basket with our clean clothes which yes I had to wash again but it was worth it.

The Uplift the Underdogs contest intends to shine a light on dogs that were rescued but haven’t been adopted and still need loving homes. Rescue organizations are encouraged to submit details about their most deserving dogs for the chance to win a lifetime supply of Petcurean’s GO! Solutions® food for the winning dog and a 500lb donation of pet food to the shelter or rescue group.

Now that is what I call amazing! This is one of the many reasons we love Petcurean. Not only are our beloved pets getting top quality food but we can stand behind a company that tries to help rescued animals.

“They believe all dogs are deserving of forever homes. Whether they’re older, have dietary issues, aren’t conventionally cute, or face unique challenges of any sort. We want to encourage people to give these overlooked dogs forever homes,” said Christine Mallier, PR & Community Relations Manager at Petcurean. “It’s what’s inside that counts and these dogs all have so much love to give. At Petcurean, we recognize and celebrate the unique traits that each individual dog has and are committed to helping them live healthy, happy lives full of love.”

After completing the online application form, two finalists from each city will move to the next round, along with four finalists from Canada.  During this round, consumers will vote for their favorite dog through Petcurean’s Facebook and Instagram. The dog that receives the most comments and likes over one week will be awarded the grand prize. The winner will be announced on June 18.

rescue and shelter dogsShelter dogs like our 14 year old Blue Heeler Luna above would be overlooked for their age, let alone being blind like she is now. We would never give her up as she has provided us with joy and unconditional love but sadly too many shelter dogs don't get that chance.

“Shelter dogs are already underdogs due to a lot of misconceptions about how they wind up there in the first place.  And those with “issues” are the underdogs of the underdogs, having a much harder time finding their forever home,” continued Mallier. “We hope that all dogs featured in the contest find forever homes, and we encourage all rescue organizations and shelters in the area to participate, as this is a great opportunity to generate more visibility and awareness for these groups who tirelessly advocate for the adoption and welfare of pets day and night.”

  1. Most of my pets were rescue animals. It is very important for people to realize how much shelters do for the animals. I am glad that Petcurean has this program

  2. Thanks for sharing what Petcurean is trying to do to help the animals find a home. Good point is we should not overlook the older dogs that can still be part of a family.

  6. What a wonderfully generous giveaway for a most worthy cause. I do not qualify to enter the contest, but have a long association with rescue dogs and animal shelters. We have had 3 cats and 9 dogs, not counting the liters and senior dogs we fostered for the animal shelter. They have been wonderful companions. We are currently down to 2, one with a broken back. We lost our little terrier May 14. She was the third of our dogs and two of our cats that made it to 17 years old. It always breaks my heart. Shelter or rescue animals make such good pets. They aren't perfect, but have so much love to give and appreciate having someone to love them.

  18. The contest is not opened to our area, but I shared this on my Facebook page anyway. Maybe a couple of my Seattle Facebook friends will see it. I can’t say how much my heart feels so happy and proud that pet food manufacturer, Petcurean, is holding the “Uplift the Underdogs Contest,” an online contest. Their prizes are very generous. Even senior dogs deserve a good long life like us seniors do! Maybe other companies will follow Petcurean’s lead! This IS a company who not only makes products for our furry friends, but actually show that they care! TY

  21. Rescue dogs are the best. We have two dogs now, I found them on Craig's list. They are the greatest. My daughter adopted an 11 year old cat from the local shelter--she is so loving. When you adopt animals from a shelter they seem truly grateful to be with you. I love rescue animals.

  25. What a wonderful program to highlight the joys that pets provide us and not just adorable puppies and kittens. All of my pets over the years have been adopted through shelters or come to us as strays and they were all perfect for us.

  26. This is so heartwarming and caring. Every time I see an animal in a cage it breaks my heart a little bit more. I really love that this organization is rooting for the underdog, it's a win-win-win.

  27. I crosspost a lot of animals and know a few small shelters who could really use this. I love a rescue dog. With the exception of one I got from my brother all have been rescues. I intentionally will pick black dogs, or older (they say 7 is senior but far from it) Our current dog Odin is 15 now. He is a black part shepherd. He is now blind and diabetic. I wouldnt trade him for anything.
