Home Décor for Less
Home Décor on a Dime? That title is deceiving but I know that I got your attention now didn’t I? Nowadays almost nothing can be bought for a dime. Now let’s take a look at home décor. You certainly will not be able to decorate your home on a dime but here are some tips on saving money on home décor.
Tips for Saving Money on Home Décor
- Shop at Consignment Shops- One man’s junk is another man’s treasure or so they say. Save yourself some money on home décor by heading to your local consignment shop. You may be surprised at all the treasures you will find there. Some people like to downsize and often donate stuff to second hand stores. You will save money on home décor by shopping at these types of stores. The picture above the item in the middle a candle holder I got at a second hand store and it's a party lite product! I got it for way less than if I had bought it through Party Lite!
- Look for Closeouts- Sometimes you will hit it lucky on new home décor by finding shops that are closing their doors. Keep an eye on your local newspapers or even check online to see when this occurs. You will pay far less than retail costs by purchasing home décor items at closeouts.
- Check for Seasonal Sales- Another way you can save on home décor is to plan on making purchases on big ticket home décor items at the end of the season. In the spring and fall of the year is when you will see sale pricing on home décor. Plan your decorating task around those times of the year.
- Get Crafty- Get crafty with home décor items that you have in your home already. Simply spruce up old furniture by repainting it. Furnishing from older siblings rooms can simply be passed down to the younger ones.
These are just some ideas on saving money on home décor purchases. Thought that you were going to find out how to get home décor items for a dime, now didn’t you. You were fooled!
What is the cheapest price *besides free* that you have spent on big ticket home décor items such as a couch? Have you ever bought home décor items from a consignment shop and saved yourself some money?
I love thrift stores for everything. I mostly buy clothes and kitchen items, but they do have hidden treasures in home decor.
Yes, I've checked out hospital thrift shops and also Church fairs. You can sometimes find wonderful items usually inexpensively. I also love to scour antiques stores for "sleepers". I've found some very nice and interesting things over the years.
Thank you for the tips. I'm going to check out my local consignment and thrift shops for ideas.
I've bought quite a few home decor items from my local consignment shop such as beautiful brass candlesticks and some of their very lovely prints in a beautiful frame from the original Home Interior and Gifts that was popular long ago! And I always shop at Marc's because they purchase a lot of items from higher ticket places and sometimes I get lucky. They even have the original price still on them sometimes! It's a hit or miss but usually do have luck finding very nice items at these places! And hitting yard sales are always my favorite thing to do in the spring when families are cleaning out their closets and want to get rid of a lot of their nice things to make room for new ones or to just make more room! Always nice to know you've saved a few bucks!
I have tried to save money in many ways, as you have suggested in you tips. Tag sales at homes and yard sales is another way to find cheaper items. I picked up a nice cabinet for only $10 .
It really is amazing how you have stuff at home just sitting in the basement (in my case) that could be used to freshen up your decor. It may take a bit of paint or fabric, but it can be done, and very inexpensively.
