Homemade Dog Treats with Rolled Oats and Peanut Butter

Homemade Dog Treats with Rolled Oats and Peanut Butter are a perfect choice for giving your dog a special treat you know has healthy ingredients!dog treats with rolled oats

Confession time, the dog in these photos is not one of our precious pups. Her name is Juno and her hooman mom made these treats and Juno got to be the first to try them. We love the name Juno though as one of our first dogs, well she was technically our second dog and we adopted her six months after our first dog Zeus and they were the best of buddies. We loved our Juno and miss her all the time so we have a soft spot for the name.

The reason we had Juno’s hooman make the treats first was mostly because at the time I didn’t have time to make them and photograph them. As well our chihuahua Cleo can be a picky girl and I wanted to see how much another dog, in this case, Juno would like them first. dog treats with rolled oats

Juno LOVED these dog treats with rolled oats so I finally made a batch and wow yay our girl Nyx who is not picky at all gobbled them down and our picky eater Cleo she loved them too. So yay and now I can share the recipe with you all now that I know our dogs also love them. Bonus, you get to enjoy photos of Juno who is a standard poodle, she’s still a puppy too!dog treats with rolled oats

We also used a similar dog bone-shaped cookie cutter but you can of course use whatever shape you like! We don’t generally give our dogs the whole piece, we break them up so they last longer. For our next batch, I think I will use a smaller cookie cutter so we can have some smaller versions of these dog treats with rolled oats. dog treats with rolled oats

These dog treats are an easy way to spoil your precious pup no matter how old they are. Made with just four ingredients, these dog treats with rolled oats are a nutritious, budget-conscious alternative to store-bought treats. I like knowing exactly what my dogs are eating just like I do with the rest of my family.

Making dog treats at home is simple and the best part is you can customize treats to fit your dog’s needs and tastebuds. It’s especially helpful if your dog has allergies or any dietary restrictions and of course, the best part as always is you know the quality of the ingredients in the treats!

When you are buying applesauce for these treats, you want a plain applesauce with no added sugar. It’s preferable that it’s the same for peanut butter, no added sugar. I used a natural peanut butter, I know they can be messy and you have to constantly stir them before using but it’s better for our doggos.

These four-ingredient dog treats make about 12-15 treats in a full batch. For our two dogs, I doubled the batch as they love their treats.

Homemade Dog Treats with Rolled Oats and Peanut Butter are a perfect choice for giving your dog a special treat you know has healthy ingredients!

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Additional Time 20 minutes
Total Time 50 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of peanut butter (natural preferred with no added sugar)
  • ¾ cup of all-purpose flour*
  • 1.5 cups of oatmeal
  • ¼ cup of apple sauce (no added sugar)

Instructions

  1. Mix all ingredients together in a bowl
  2. Roll onto a floured surface and cut out shapes. I did dog bones but you could do anything.
  3. Place treats on a parchment sheet and bake at 375 for 10-12 minutes or until just golden brown.
  4. Remove from oven and let cool

Notes

* Depending on the type of peanut butter you may need to
use more flour. You want your dough to be moist and able to mold it.

You can also add some calcium powder for added nutrients for your dog. Make sure to read the label for how much to add.
