How Dolls Spark Imagination and Creativity
My youngest is 6, so she is playing house, mom, and using her imagination big time. Using her imagination is something I try to encourage as much as possible. I find that the more opportunities I give her the better she does and the more she wants to play.
Benefits of using imagination during play:
When a child uses imagination play it really fosters mental growth. It allows them to role play and try out new ideas. It’s even better when you have more than one child, as they can feed off each other. When they get to thinking, they problem solve and it’s so fun to see their minds work things out.
When children expand their vocabulary they can express themselves more and more. Imagination play allows them to try new words and not be scared of saying the wrong thing.
This is a big one. Imagination play allows kids to try out new roles. Even roles as simple as mom, dad, teacher etc. They see these roles daily in their life and most want to test them out. It also allows kids to express other things, like problems in their life. I’ve seen many kids reenact areas of their life that either bother them or a fun time.
What can I supply my kids to encourage imagination play?
What kind of baby really depends on your child and their likes. For us, we like more realistic dolls. Ones that look like a baby. That’s one reason we (mostly Fallon) love baby Emma From Feltman Brothers. She has soft baby scented skin and to top off the realistic look, real eyelashes!
Consider buying accessories with a doll. This way the kids have even more to go off of. Things like chairs, houses and such are great. There’re also clothes. I know Fallon LOVES dressing her babies up. Feltman Brothers have gorgeous dresses for their dolls. They don’t stop there. You can even buy a matching dress (goes up to size 4T).
A place of their own
Giving a kid a place of their own to play is a big deal for a child. It doesn’t have to be large, it can be a corner of the dining room or even a part of the basement. Kids don’t ask for much but when they have “their area” it’s easier for them to feel at ease playing. Consider setting up a small rug with a few toys like a tea set, chairs, and stuffed animals, dolls etc.
If you think a new doll is something your child would love, I highly recommend checking out Feltman Brothers and their Emma. If they are size 4T and under consider getting the matching dress as well. Then sit back and just watch all the fun they can have with their new doll.
