Entertaining house guests is a tradition that dates back thousands of years. Showing others hospitality is a fine way to share your blessings with loved ones and friends. To make sure everyone has a great time, and to reduce hosting stress, follow these steps:
Create space: Although you don’t have to have a huge home to host a great party, it’s still important to make space so guests feel comfortable. Consider clearing out large pieces of furniture to make a space seem bigger. Make sure you provide tables for serving and extra seating so your guests can lounge. If your home is too small to comfortably host a party, expand outside with a garden party or barbecue.Serve food and drinks: People frequently mingle around food and drink, so provide an assortment you think your guests will enjoy. Wine is a wonderful drink that can be enjoyed as a cocktail or served with dinner. To make sure you have a reliable supply of quality, party-perfect wine, consider joining a wine club. Because wine clubs hand select only the best wines, you’ll look like a wine connoisseur even if you’re a novice. It is also a good idea to keep sodas and waters on hand for those who prefer not to drink alcohol.
Provide entertainment: You don’t have to spend lots of money to keep your guests entertained. If you are hosting an outdoor party, consider setting up outdoor games, such as horseshoes. While indoors, play music in the background or perhaps treat guests to a slideshow or sporting event on television. For a group of wine lovers, a mini wine tasting can be a popular choice. Wine clubs provide their members with wines from all over the world, creating a nice variety for a tasting event. Your guests may even discover a new favorite wine and become part of the club.
Talk to everyone: There is nothing worse than going to a party and feeling like an outsider. As host, it’s your responsibility to make your guests feel at home. Greet each guest personally, introduce your friends to other guests, and facilitate conversation so all your guests feel welcome and included.
A well-planned party filled with great food, drink, conversation and entertainment will not only make your guests happy, it will enable you to enjoy your party too. And don’t forget to relax with a glass of your favorite wine.
I am not much of a drinker however I try to keep white and red wine at the house to offer my guests that do indulge. I do not think I would join a wine club --
Good reminder! As an introvert, I tend to focus on one or two people, so I need to be reminded to walk around and take care of the guests.
Good advice. Being an introvert, I tend to focus on one or two people in a given night. It's a good reminder to walk around and make sure the guests are taken care of. I'll probably be more exhausted at the end of the evening, but I do need to be reminded of striking this balance.
Great tips! Thanks for the tip of joining a wine club! I know NOTHING about wine! 🙁
