How to Make Learning Fun
Look who’s back for some incredible adventures. It’s Ms. Frizzle, the young scientists, and the Magic School Bus. Let’s hop on board and take a look at these hands-on science kits that make learning fun.
Make learning fun with a little help from Ms. Frizzle and the Magic School Bus!
Buckle up and take a trip with Ms. Frizzle, her students, and the Magic School Bus where you will discover how to make learning fun.
Over the years I have learned that my boys are hands-on learners. To make learning fun, they have to not only have visuals and examples but they need manipulatives and tools. Having an interactive environment fosters their ability to explore, test, gather, and learn.
Some educational tools only provide limited actions. Take a telescope for example. There are not very many functions to carry out with the item alone, but with the Magic School Bus Space kit, there are so many activities and learning opportunities at your fingertips. And it’s all thanks to these incredible Magic School Bus Science Kits!
Magic School Bus Science Kits Make Learning Fun!
There are some wonderful features about the Magic School Bus science kits. One of them is that these kits come in a box that is shaped like the Magic School Bus, complete with Ms. Frizzle and her young scientists.
When you pull the top of the bus off, it reveals tools needed to conduct experiments and learn. It makes a great place to store all of the goodies. The tools include things like tweezers, strings, posters, charts, manipulatives, Petri dishes, popsicle sticks, and a variety of items.
Within these kits, there is a book that includes detailed directions, places to collect data, along with educational information those kiddos can soak up. There is a unique experiment presented by each of the young scientist characters which provide a variety of choices.
One feature I really like is that on each supply list it separates what you will need to supply from home in addition to the tools included in the science kits. It makes picking out each experiment a little bit easier to plan.
Here is how to Make Learning Fun for Your Kids
Magic School Bus Space Lab
This science kit has a variety of tools that help kids learn about outer space. One of the tools is called a Star Pilot. It helps locate constellations in the sky by viewing an accurate display of the stars. To view the constellations, all you need to do is roll the ball at the end of the Star Pilot and they will come into view.
Kids are also able to make a planet poster, build a night vision flashlight, discover the life cycle of a star, and much more. This is perfect for the astronomer enthusiast.
Magic School Bus Engineering Lab
With this Magic School Bus science kit, you get to dive into the incredible world of engineering. My son is set on becoming an engineer because he loves to build things. With this science kit, he can do just that, while learning about building concepts. And I don’t have to worry about gathering supplies or tracking down a plan, everything you need is included in the kit. The fun part about this kit is that you can explore different types of engineering such as chemical, electric, civil, and mechanical.
The kit includes enough supplies to build over 30 experiments including:
- Ballon Jet
- Spin Art
- Simple Machine
- Build a Model Bridge
- Soda Can Submarine
- Solar Oven
Growing Crazy Crystals Kit
Crystals are an object of admiration in my home. We are always going on rockhounding adventures together to find that perfect geode to split open and discover a cave of crystals forming inside. With this science kit, we were able to grow our very own crystals. The kit comes with tools, directions, and even a chart to keep track of growth through data collection. Just what every young scientist needs!
For this science kit, we tried out Arnold’s Experiment which asks the question, “How would you make a crystal star using a pipe cleaner and a saturated baking soda solution?”
Great question Arnold! So we got to work making a crystal star out of a pipe cleaner, water, baking soda, popsicle stick, string, jar, and food coloring. We did need a few items outside of what the kit provided, but luckily they were all items that we had on hand.
Making learning fun starts when you can see crystals form!
Here is the pipe cleaner before being submerged into the baking soda solution.
We shaped the pipe cleaner into a star, attached it with a piece of string to a popsicle stick.
Once it was secure, we dunked the star-shaped pipe cleaner into the baking soda solution for a good soak.
You can see it in the picture below.
Learning fun can be science-based!
Within no time at all, crystals began to grow on the top of the baking soda solution!
It almost looks like a frosty winter window.
Here is where the action starts to happen and you can start to see results.
More and more crystals grow onto the pipe cleaner.
Now you can really start to see the results!
The best part about this experiment is that you can let it sit over a period of time and continue to grow more crystals.
I had no idea you could do this with baking soda!
