Need some home decorating ideas?
I don't know about you but I'm a visual person when it comes to learning and coming up with new ideas, especially for things like home decoration. I really need some visuals to help me figure out how I might want to add to a room, change it up a bit or do a major change. One of the best ways that works for me to get inspired for home decorating ideas is to go to a Home and Garden store.
I love the stores where I can walk the aisles and go from lamps and shades to kitchen countertops and flooring. Don't get me started on the paint aisle, I can be there for hours looking at all of the color palettes and imagining what ones might go in what room, paint the walls, the trim or maybe freshen up a dresser. I love how the possibilities are endless!
Sometimes I've meandered throughout a Rona store for example thinking I would just pick up some paint and change up a piece of furniture and instead I come out with some plants to add to another room. Seeing the plants, paint colors, lamps, outdoor furniture and more just inspires my home decoration ideas.
I have friends who also do the same thing, especially those who write up home decoration. It's really fun when we can each go to our local Rona store as they are across Canada and more times than not we can all find similar items. We then get together online and talk about our ideas and inspire each other. I've even uploaded pictures of an area of the house I wanted to change up and share it with them to give me ideas and would they think this lamp or this paint color would work. I told you I was visual lol.
It's also really useful to see mock-ups for examples of kitchens. In fact that is also one of my favorite sections in a home and garden store. I love to get ideas for my dream kitchen that I'm determined to have one day. I love looking at the "mini kitchens" as I call them that they have set up in stores. So far from looking at those I've started my list for my dream kitchen, so far I'm leaning towards a country look with some hints of blue, vintage white-washed wood cupboards and marble counters.
So if you're stuck for ideas and/or just need some inspiration just go to some local home and garden stores and walk around. You can look at carpets, wood floors, the paint section (even if you don't need paint you can get color scheme ideas), plants & flowers, lighting and more and get some ideas. See what they have set up for the displays, get inspired and if you want bring a few samples home too! It always does wonders for me and plays a part in all my home decoration projects!
What do you do to get inspired to change up your home decor?
It is really amazing how just a few accent pieces can change up the whole feel and look of a room. You don't have to spend a fortune.

I look at magazines
OMG!!! This is gorgeous. I would love to have something like that in my house!!
what is gorgeous? Did you read the article?
I like those stores too, the paint isle doesn't so anything for me, but I like looking at bathroom fixtures. A great place to find inspiration for decorating your home is magazines.
These are great ideas
I like a pop of color here and there. I kill off real plants, but have found some silk arrangements that look realistic.
Love having plants in my home! Thank you for the inspiration!
I wish I could afford a minimalism style decoration but it's actually very expensive to have your furniture in black and white only.
To me plants make a home!
Wow! That is a beautiful dinning room wall! I'd love that in my kitchen. I don't have a whole lot of wall space, my dinning room has a ledge or whatever about 3 ft from the ceiling and below it there are rectangles of wood, I'm sure they have a name, but anyways, I don't have the wall space I'd love!
