Powered by Mom Blog wants to know do you think certain professions (or all) should continue their education?
Hmm what do I mean by that? Well if you think about it with the way things change, new technologies, new medical breakthroughs, new laws etc.. that come up all the time don’t think that people in those professions need to keep up with the change? Wouldn’t you want your doctor to know about the latest and BEST treatments? IT professionals need to keep up with the latest software and technology for them that’s a must so how about other professions?
If I needed lawyer for example I would hope that the person is up to date on the latest legals procedures, laws and so much more so that they would hopefully be upgrading their knowledge to their area of expertise with courses like (depending on their area of practice) complex litigation education courses, environmental law, electronic medical records (for personal injury lawyers) and so much more. I think sometimes we tend to forget that even after a degree or license is earned that for many professions the education needs to continue but at least it’s usually more focused once someone is practicing what they’ve learned.
I would love to see more companies supporting their employees to continue their education especially with courses that offer practical education that’s specific to their work or will help them move forward in their profession. Sadly I find that too many companies don’t invest in their employees and don’t realize that such an investment will benefit them in the long run. Too many think of the short term and that if they pay for education the employees will move on etc.. Yes of course this happens but some will stay and those that do will help build the reputation that the company is a good place to work and a company with happy employees more often than not means productive employees! Wouldn’t you want the person who is the first person that your clients come into contact with to be happy and nice to the customers as an example?
I will get off my high horse now but what do you think is it valuable for both employers and employees to continue their education with upgrade courses, staying on top of the latest in their fields or not? I’d love to hear feel free to comment.
