Entertained Indoors on Cold Days

Cold days can be hard. Recently, we had four REALLY cold days with rain, snow, and more snow. It was fun for the kids to go out and play but that didn't last long when the wind was blowing and temps were in the single digits. My kids were bouncing off the walls and I was dealing with some pretty intense cabin fever. We opted for indoor entertainment. Games, puzzles....you name it... we tried it! Here are a few things that kept us occupied (and sane) on the cold days and even the not so cold days that have followed.

Enjoying being entertained indoors on a blustery cold winter day

It has been fun to watch my kids enjoy some great "throwbacks" to MY childhood. That, of course, makes it entertaining and exciting for me to know they will have some of the same memories I have from MY childhood.

Family Feud 40th Anniversary Edition

I can remember as a child, sitting on my grandparent's floor playing with my toys as my grandparents would watch Family Feud. As I got a little older, my focus came off the toys and more on the show. I would answer the questions and laugh when I would have the right answer but yet the contestants seemed to not be able to hear me screaming my answer! I can remember saying, "I need to be on this show!" For the 40th anniversary, Family Feud has a game that has already brought a lot of laughter in my own family. Now, I CAN get the point when I have the right answer. Some of the answers my children gave were HILARIOUS!

Sleepover Party

There is nothing more entertaining at a sleepover than a good dare. Those are moments that are remembered for years to come. The laughs shared over something so silly, create a special, lasting bond between friends. Sleepover Party is geared towards girls ages eight and up. We quickly found out that this game is just as fun for families. If a parent is there to help, even the younger kids can participate. This game is especially great when you have a group of silly kids!

The Cube - Next Generation of Rubik's Cube

If I told you that I ever figured out the Rubik cube, I would be lying. I DID switch the stickers to make it LOOK like I had figured it out but everyone could tell I had messed with the stickers! The Cube by AGreatLife does not have stickers! No more cheating! My son would have totally pulled some stickers off but instead, he figured it out! To hear the excitement when he figured it out all on his own after fidgetting with it on a five-hour car ride home from our family get together, was absolutley priceless!

Kids Wooden Xylophone

I have never been musically gifted in any way, shape or form. My husband, on the other hand, has more talent in his pinkie finger than most do in their whole body. My children all have such a desire to learn how to play instruments like their daddy. For my four-year-old, this was a perfect. Unlike the competitors, this xylophone by AGreatLife is in key and makes a truly beautiful sound. It is made for children but sounds like one for an adult!

AGreatLife Kids Percussion Starter Kit 9-Player Band Set

Just like the Xylophone, the Percussion Starter Kit was a huge hit with my daughter. She climbed up on my bed with all the instruments laid out around her, playing and singing away for probably close to an hour! This child LOVES to sing. Adding her very own music just made it extra special. The instruments are quality wooden pieces that feel like they will hold up for a long time.

Kites

Now that you have some options for being entertained indoors, you will want to have something on hand for when you finally get some pretty weather. I think of the song, "Let's go fly a kite". We will be seeing some 60 degree days in the next week so I look forward to spending some time outdoors with my kiddos teaching my four-year-old how to fly a kite! The kites from AGreatLife are made out of waterproof fabric versus the cheap plastic kites that always seem to come apart once they finally launch.

  1. I had those really boring days when my kids were young and they didn’t have cell phones or anything like that. Plus we only had one phone line! I thank God they had each other to play with. We played games also. My grandkids have the cell phone and Internet to keep them from being bored. No matter how I try, I can’t take away the phones! I pinned your article.

  3. We have that same xylophone! My kids love it!! They really enjoy playing their instruments along with their cds or the radio. We've been doing our best to keep our kids entertained inside due to the cold, snowy, rainy weather too. Thankfully, they have had the chance to play with their Christmas gifts a lot! lol

  4. These do all look like fun. We were lucky, there were three of us pretty close in age, and we had a blast playing inside. We never had to be entertained, and we were so creative, too.

  5. Games and music usually work for us but sometimes even on cold days we still do bundle up and try to get excess energy out even if it is for only 15 minutes.

  6. I have three littles (8,5,3) that are homeschooled, so I know the struggle well! I am constantly trying to come up with new and exciting ways to keep them active and entertained when it is way too cold to go outside. We play a lot of board games and do a lot of crafts. I really want to get the game Family Feud now, I loved the show as a kid too! 🙂
