I am thrilled to share our review of the Kyocera Hydro Air Phone with you as this is one cool Android phone. I admit I don't have a ton of experience with Android phones but I've been looking into them more and more as they have their advantages and my daughter who is the current Android user is looking to upgrade. As she just got her first phone last year when she entered high school we got her a basic starter phone for which the main purpose was that we could get a hold of her when needed and she us, particularly in an emergency. We don't have data on her phone and that's okay as she has the wifi at home and at school. We didn't get the data for fear of over usage and getting that big unexpected bill!

Hello Kyocera Hydro Air phone!

Kyocera Hydro Air Phone

However now with the option of the no contract phones, in particular this awesome Kyocera Hydro Air phone that you can get for only $99 exclusively at Walmart for AT&T's GoPhone prepaid mobile service we don't have to worry about a surprise data usage bill. Better yet the Kyocera Hydro Air phone is quite the amazing phone, especially for it's price point!

The 411 on the Kycoer Hydro Air phone - The Hydro Air puts the proof in waterproof!

Kyocera display

The Kyocera Hydro AIR provides all of the functionality and style of more expensive devices, but offers users the peace of mind that comes with a waterproof, durable phone. Most smartphone failures result from water damage and drops, but the Kyocera Hydro AIR protects against those and more thanks to its waterproof, drop-proof and dust-proof design. So there’s less need to worry about breaking its big, beautiful 5-inch display.

With its IPX5 and IPX7 certifications, the Kyocera Hydro AIR will survive an unexpected shower or water immersion for up to 30 minutes in up to 3.28 feet (1 meter) and the touchscreen can even be operated when wet. And while no phone is indestructible, this one gives you the peace of mind of Military Standard 810G certification for shock and drops, and an IP5X dustproof rating. It comes ready with Google Mobile services including Google Play, Google Hangouts, Gmail and more. The phone also is equipped with a 5MP camera, Stereo Bluetooth, a memory card slot that supports up to 32 GB of extra memory and a long-lasting 2300mAh Lithium ion battery supported by enhanced power-management software.

Seriously a waterproof phone and one that is durable that if we drop it (within reason of course) that we don't have to worry?! Sounds perfect for my teenager heck sounds good for me too as I admit my phone has been dropped a few times, thank goodness for my excellent phone case that saved it from damage.  I love that this phone features wet touchscreen operation so you can still use the screen even when it's wet, no special settings required because this feature is always working. When you live in the great Pacific Northwest where we get a lot of ahem liquid sunshine you'd be surprised how important it is to be able to use your screen when it's wet because you know it rains a lot here.

Why is there a picture of a cat? Because it was taken with the Hydro Air phone of course!

kyocera hydro air cat picture

Remember I mentioned that you can be worry free about dropping it? It's built to military standard 810G for protection against shock and drop and it's awesome 5-inch impact-resistant touchscreen. Yep it's teenager and clumsy mom proof gotta love it. The screen is clear and crisp, the touchscreen functions are just the right amount of sensitive and the phone is light. I honestly don't have a complaint about it. Now keep in mind I've only been using it for a few weeks and my teenager has hogged it for a large portion of the time. However, she has had no complaints so she's obviously happy with it's capabilities which includes taking some nice clear pictures.

You saw the decent picture of our cat Oliver above, it has not been retouched in anyway so not bad for a quick pic with the Kyocera Hydro phone. Here's one of a teacup with lots of different colors. I thought it did quite well with this picture too.

For all the geeks out there like myself here's more of the technical 411 to get your pulse beating. While it's not the phone wit the most it's the phone for the price point with a heck of a lot to offer and when you add in the waterproof and drop proof (see details on there site) it's a fabulous phone that's not going to cost an arm and a long. It's affordable, has a ton to offer and I like the no contract options! yeah!

Technical 411

With a powerful 2300mAh battery and built-in energy-saving features like Eco Mode with MaxiMZR, Hydro AIR works when you need it to, and conserves energy when you don't. So take pictures with the front and rear cameras, listen to music, watch videos, and talk and text it up without having to worry about your phone going down.

Brains, speed, and looks.

With a speedy Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ processor with 1.2GHz Quad-core CPU, Hydro AIR offers quick access to apps and navigation, making it fast and easy to talk, text, and surf at the speed of your life.

  • Up to 15 hours talk time up to 24 days standby time
  • 5MP rear-facing camera with flash and digital zoom
  • 2MP front-facing camera - selfie lovers might want more but I'm good with this

  6. I think the military standard 810G for protection against shock and drop and it’s awesome 5-inch impact-resistant touchscreen feature is what would be good for me. Of course water proof and that helps too ut I drop my phone so many times in a day lol. Its a wander it even works.

  7. I find that while the features of vein waterproof and drop proof are nice they could have made a great phone fantastic by adding a better chip and higher MP cameras. The battery MaH is good but I am assuming, as I didn't see it in your review, that the battery is not replaceable.

  10. I am currently in the market for a new phone so after reading your review, I think I would be crazy not to pick this one for my next phone. It can be dropped and still works after getting wet??? WHAT??? No contest. And to think, I would not have even known about this phone if I didn't get your newsletters. Thanks.

  11. Between the waterproof and the drop/shock features this phone looks awesome. I broke 3 phones in the last 3 years. One to liquid, 2 to drops... I seriously need to look into buying this phone! 😀

  16. Funny you posted a picture of your cat because that's why I'd love this phone.
My cat knocks things off of shelves and counters when he gets hungry.
Soooooo my phone has been one of his victims 🙂
clearly I need this phone because it won't break when he goes on his hunger tantrums. 🙂
    thanks!

  17. Since dropping phones on the ground and shattering them or dropping phones in a pook, sink, toilet, etc is very common, this is a very smart build! And for it to be affordable and easily accessible is an extra plus.

  18. The fact that this is waterproof is a great feature. The camera takes pretty nice pictures as well. All in all, a fine phone.

  19. This looks like a great phone. I like that it is water proof and drop protected. I don't have a phone for myself and it is sometimes an inconvenience to not be able to just grab a phone and call someone when I need to so this would be great for me.

  20. As if being military tested and drop proof within reason wasn't a good enough reason to have interest in this phone the fact that it operates when wet and can survive an unexpected shower or water immersion for up to 30 minutes in up to 3.28 feet sold me (especially for one of my kids starter phones-since I have zero interest in owning one at all)

  21. Phones should be able to survive normal live. Teens need a military grade protection on their phones. The pay as you go aspect is also a bonus

  24. I think it is very interesting that it has the "wet touchscreen" feature, although I've never had an issue with my phone's touchscreen not working when the screen is wet before! (Of course, I've never had the whole screen wet either.) I also like that it is a no-contract phone because that means I can use a set amount each month for my phone and have no surprises!

  25. 5-inch display and is designed to protect against water, drops and dust. Perfect for my fiance who works in construction & has a flip phone, might be the perfect phone for him so he has data options available. We are re-evaluating our service next month as I currently pay for 3 lines/phones and I have told my fiance & daughter to get their own service plan.

  44. I've owned a Kyocera phone in the past and it was great quality. I love the fact that this is waterproof and also that there is no contract. I have a friend that is still struggling with an old flip phone that doesn't always work, but she can't afford a fancy phone with a big bill to match every month. I think this would be perfect for her. She could get a really great current phone and not have to worry about a big phone bill.

  54. I've barely even touched a smart phone before, but I've been getting a twinge of interest in getting one. I like that this has a 24 days standby time. Battery life is one of the big reasons why I've been so hesitant to move up. My flip phone can go days without being charged, and it seems like anyone with a smart phone has to charge it throughout the day to keep it going.
