The Powered by Mom Blog Family Loved Let it Shine

Do you have a hard time finding movies for the whole family to watch? You know the kind that you don't have to worry about censoring.

You usually can't go wrong with a Disney movie and for us Let it Shine did not disappoint.

“The story is mostly about 16-year-old Cyrus DeBarge, a gifted songwriter and rapper his Father the Minister doesn't approve of rap and hip hop and Cyrus lacks self confidence. You see Cyrus has never performed on a stage and in fact with the exception of his best friend Kris McDuffy no one has even heard him rapping. Along comes his longtime crush Roxanne Andrews who is now a singing sensation who is herself having some challenges with people seeing the "real"her.

Long story short Cyrus and Kris each enter a songwriting contest hosted by Roxanne. Cyrus' song is chosen but wait his song is mistakenly attributed to Kris. Cyrus let's Kris continue to take credit for his song and from there trials, tribulations, some funny twists and turns and of course some singing and dancing are showcased for us all.

We won't spoil the movie for but Let it Shine was a great family movie for us, keep in mind my daughter is almost 11 and she loves singing and dancing of all kinds so of course she loved Let it Shine. There is absolutely no profanity or questionable scenes etc.. so if you like a heartwarming story set to some fun music, singing and dancing you like Let it Shine.

Here's a quick preview for you 🙂

  4. My son is still a little to young to be able to sit through full length movies like this. But I'm putting it on our list to watch when he's older for sure! He already loves music. =)
