Light Your Work Area with BenQ ScreenBar

I spend an awful lot of time on the computer. I write these reviews, manage 7-10 websites, write my books. I'm a social media manager and graphic designer. Almost everything I do, I do on a computer. Sadly, my little workstation is tiny and was dark. I picked up a little USB lamp for my desk, and it's bright, but it only shines a light in a very small area. I eventually had to get a lighted keyboard, just to be able to see it. Then I got the BenQ Screenbar e-reading Lamp.

As you can see above, my little lamp provided light. Very focused, glaring, cool light. It worked, but I never realized how much strain I was putting on my eyes. I figured between my little lamp and my 24" screen, it was enough. How wrong I was!

Putting it Together

The BenQ Screenbar e-reading Lamp is very simple. It comes in 3 pieces. The lamp, the clip,  and the USB cord. There is nothing "extra" though this little lamp does an awful lot! Simply roll the lightbar into the clip and position on top of your screen. I was a little nervous about how it would fit since my screen just barely fits in the cubby. Luckily it fit just fine. I did have to slide over my webcam, but that was no big deal. Plenty of room on my screen for all kinds of stuff! I ran the power cord down and behind my hutch and plugged in the USB. Simple as that!

Lights and Lumens

Compare this photo to the first one. HUGE difference! The light covers my entire work area. Plus my pull-out keyboard shelf. There is zero glare on my screen, or anywhere. There are 4 buttons across the top of the lamp with touch sensors. The power button is on the far right. To the left of that is the auto-dimmer. This means, if you touch it and the little green light lights up, your lamp will stay at exactly 500 lumens, no matter the ambient light. It has a light sensor that lets the lamp adjust the brightness automatically. I learned that 500 lumens is the perfect amount of light when working with a screen. It's not too dim nor too bright. This reduces eye strain a ton!

Brightness and Temperature

The two buttons on the left side of the center control the brightness manually, and the temperature of the light. For either of these, you put your finger on the button and hold it there until it reaches your desired setting. The ensure your light is quality LED lights that do not flicker and has no blue-light hazard. You can adjust the color temperature from a very warm, almost orange 2700K to an icy blue cold 6500K. Warmer light is more comforting and replenishes your energy. Cooler light helps you to focus and boosts efficiency. I prefer my light a bit on the warm side, but I love having the option to change it!

My Eyes are Happier

I love having a warmer and balanced light and I adore being able to see my work area. There is no longer the dread of having to sit at my desk. I notice my eyes feel better too. After working before, I had to take constant breaks to "rest" my eyes, looking around for 5 minutes doing nothing. I'd rub them and blink them and after another 10 minutes of work, I would need another break. The BenQ Screenbar e-reading Lamp has changed that! I can work consistently for hours and not need any breaks. My eyes don't feel tired after finishing work either. It's so easy to use and has made such a big impact in my workspace that I couldn't be happier. Thanks, BenQ!

  11. I like that this lights my whole screen and evenly. With my desk lamp, I only have light on one side so a bit unbalanced.

  12. I think my favorite feature of this lamp would have to be, that it takes up very little space on my small desk, leaving room for other things.
