Powered by Mom Blog wants to know what do you do before you purchase a new vehicle?
Here is something I can’t stress enough when making a big purchase such a new car (or new to you) RESEARCH, RESEARCH RESEARCH!
While most of us are probably not in the market for a gorgeous car like the 2014 Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid above (don’t I wish actually I think I like Mercedes and Lexus lol) there is something that you can’t do too much of before your purchase and that is yes again research, research, research. What do I mean when I say research? Well being the type A personality that I can be most of the time that means everything. Compare prices with different dealers, pricing with and without all the different options, safety features, comfort, consumer studies, and more. Wow sounds like a lot right? Well if you’re spending thousands of dollars you don’t want to end up with a lemon.
There are fun parts to research too like the test drives of different vehicles. I love test drives as that lets you know how comfortable you the driver will be, but also bring your main passengers with you too. For example if you hubby is 6 “5” you want a vehicle with enough height for him so he’ s not smacking his head when he’s in the vehicle or getting in and out of it. Is it comfy for the kids, do you have dogs and want to be able to transport them, these are all things too look for in a vehicle, see what you and yours needs in a vehicle, make a check list that always helps.
If you don’t want to be quite as type “A” as myself one thing that I find ever so helpful when buying anything (and yes I do this for every product that is new to me) is check out some reviews on that product. I know that even reading reviews can also sometimes be overwhelming but here are a few things to keep in mind:
- Look at the overall picture – I’m comfortable with a product that has a 100 reviews and scores 95% (this way I don’t have to read all the reviews)
- Read some of the reviews not all but some of the good and some of the bad
- Find some review sites that you feel are reliable
For example of a review site for vehicles there is AutoBlog which has several detailed reviews on newer vehicles. See what the reviews have to say, if there are any red flags raised or if there’s nothing but praise just see what they have to say. Everyone has their own way of doing things but if you can do try to do at least a little research which is readily available especially as mentioned online reviews and more. I know this is what I’ll be doing research, research, research when we’re ready to purchase our next new vehicle which will be in the next two years unless my minivan gives out before that but it’s lasted me 12 years so far and yes I did do my research 🙂
