The Looneyspoons Collection! – Open to US & Canada!
You may be wondering Looneyspoons what’s that? Well if you’re Canadian you will get the connection right away and if you’re not you may still guess but for those who don’t know our $1 dollar coin is nicknamed the Loonie 🙂 These lovely ladies Janet & Greta have brought us book full of delicious recipes with fun and memorable recipes names like “Hail Caesar!” & “Obi Wonton Kenobi” and so many more. I had just as much fun reading the titles, nutrition nuggets, recipe tips and so much more.
For those who may be familiar with the sisters’ older books here’s a great tidbit to know “The best news for fans and owners of our cookbooks is that all of our old, outdated recipes from Looneyspoons and Crazy Plateshave been REVISED and UPDATED to reflect current nutritional trends and ingredients,” adds Greta. “Remember way back in the 90s when all of the experts were telling us that ‘fat is evil’ and we should basically remove all fat from our diet? Well, now we know the difference between good fats (nuts, avocados) and bad fats (hydrogenated and trans fats) and that not all fat is bad for you.”
It really is more than just a cookbook it’s a fun and entertaining read that offers some healthy tips for some of your old time favorites. Now don’t think because they have healthy tips that this means not as tasty as that is not so. I have to date tried out at least 5 recipes and they have all passed the yummy taste test in this house. This is no small feat as my husband and daughter can be picky they’ll take taste over nutrition any time but I like to sneak in the healthy stuff, what they don’t know won’t hurt them. Now read on and I’ll tell you some more wonderful stuff (can you tell I love this book?) and of course enter the giveaway!
Before I forget a special THANKS to our friend for helping us promote this wonderful book! Please stop by and say hello to the and enter one of their giveaways! You can find links to their sites HERE!

I have to admit I got sidetracked on trying some of the recipes because I was so absorbed at just flipping through the book. It’s really quite enjoyable to read with all the tips, cute pictures, and even what they call trivial tidbits, so much fun. Once I stopped looking at all the pretty pictures 🙂 the next challenge was deciding on what to make first they all looked so yummy! I put at least 20 small stickies in the book so far of all the recipes I wanted to try first! As we all have quite the sweet teeth in this family I decided to make a dessert first. I chose “You’re Pudding Me On”. Don’t you just love that title?! This is one delicious recipe, basically it’s a banana bread pudding with chocolate chips. You can use whole grain like the recipe or 100% whole wheat which I did and you can’t tell! The recipe calls for pecans but I didn’t use any as my daughter doesn’t like nuts but I did throw in a few extra dark chocolate chips yummy you can tell by the picture. See it looks yummy right?! Check out more pictures and see the recipe HERE
This bread pudding was a HUGE hit and no one knew it was made with whole wheat bread! It’s so moist and as you can see I put a ton of chocolate chips on it but they were dark chocolate so healthier for you. Every little bit helps of course it still has calories and fat etc.. but it’s just a healthier version compared to most and one of the tastiest!
Recipe Two – Main Dish
I also made the “Simply Orange Chicken” dish with such yummy ingredients mandarin orange. The giveaway button picture at the very beginning of this post shows both the bread pudding and the end Simply Orange Dish. You can see more pictures and the full recipe HERE. This main dish was also a big hit and I served it with brown rice and carrots, yummy, healthy & easy to make! What more could you ask for?
Overall LooneySpoons gets a 5 out of 5 stars for being entertaining, having delicious recipes that are also easy to follow! I love this book and highly recommend it to everyone! I don’t know about Costco stores everywhere but imagine my surprise & delight when I went to my local Costco and in their meat section were pre-made chicken burgers with fire roasted vegetables how scrumptious! These recipes are catching on in more ways than one! No I didn’t buy them but that doesn’t mean I won’t the next time I go as I know how delicious their recipes are!
I was not monetarily compensated for this review but did receive 1 copy of the book for review purposes. As always I only provide my honest opinions.
Now go and enter on the rafflecopter below for your chance at this fantastic book!
