Mamma Chia Review
Getting the properly balanced nutrition can be tough for anyone, but especially for “picky” eaters. One of the toughest things for me is getting the proper amount of Omega-3s, healthy fats. I hate all fish and seafood, which is the primary source for most people, and I have yet to find a fish oil supplement that doesn’t make me sick and tastes icky. This is why I love Mamma Chia. Mamma Chia uses certified non-GMO and organic chia seeds in all of their products, providing a healthy dose of plant-based omega-3s.
There are all kinds of Mamma Chia Products to add nutritious Chia Seeds to your diet!
Chia Vitality Beverages
The #1 ingredient in all of the Mamma Chia drinks are Organic hydrated chia seeds. The rest is made up of fruit juices, agave to sweeten them, and natural preservatives. There are seven flavors to choose from, with different flavors available depending on what your local store stocks. I found mine at Walmart and Target stores. The Blueberry Pomegranate is their newest flavor and a rich and sweet treat. The Blackberry hibiscus is sweet, but not quite as much. It is milder with that more floral taste. Raspberry Passion is one of my favorites, full of raspberry flavor. The Strawberry Lemonade is appropriately sweet and tart, just like it’s namesake. It’s another favorite. I did not find the Guava Mama nor the Cherry Lime flavors to try, but they sound delicious. The Coconut Mango tastes like a tropical treat.
Each bottle contains 2500mg of healthy fat Omega-3s, 735mg of Omega-6s, and 365mg of Omega-9s. It also contains 15% of your daily requirement of magnesium, another mineral we are often short on. All also contain 10% of your daily calcium, 24% your daily fiber and 4% of your iron. All while tasting great!
Chia Squeeze Vitality Snack and Vitality Granola
Mamma Chia Chia Squeeze Vitality Snacks are any easy and portable way to take chia nutrition with you on the go! They make excellent snacks for kids and adults alike. They are gluten-free & vegan with 1200mp of Omega-3s and are a great source of fiber and protein. All the flavors combine fruits, veggies, and chia seeds. There are currently 6 flavors to choose from including Mango Coconut, Strawberry Banana, Wild Raspberry, Cherry beet, Blackberry Bliss, and Green Magic which adds a dash of organic spirulina as well! They are shelf stable at room temp before they are opened and can be refrigerated for a chilled snack.
Mamma Chia Chia Vitality Granola comes in 4 flavors and makes an excellent breakfast or snack. I got to try the Vanilla Almond Clusters and the Wild Blueberry Clusters. I liked to combine the two for a vanilla blueberry bowl of goodness. They also have Cinnamon Pecan Clusters and Honey & Oats Clusters. All of their granolas are soy and dairy free and made with 100% whole grains. Each serving has a whopping 10g of protein! There are 1500mg of Omega-3s in each serving of granola. Like all of their other products, these are certified organic as well.
The clusters are dense and don’t absorb the liquid they are in too quickly, which is nice. The chia seeds are rolled into the clusters and rehydrate the longer they sit. However, they are just as nutritious dry or wet. They taste wonderful and make for an excellent mid-afternoon snack.
Chia Seeds
Then, of course, you can get your stand-alone certified organic black and white chia seeds. There really is zero difference between black and white seeds, other than personal preference. Nutritionally they are identical and boast 2430mg of Omega-3s per tablespoon. You also get 6% of your calcium, 4% of your iron, and 10% of your magnesium. Top it off with 4g of fiber and 3g of protein and you get a powerful punch of nutrition to whatever you add your seeds to. Add them to smoothies, salads, pancakes, muffins, dressings, omelets, or anything really!
On their own, they have a nutty sort of flavor and eating them dry roasted give a nice crunch. Hydrated they remind me of the tapioca “bubbles” in bubble tea. Soft, slippery, almost slimy, though I hesitate to use that word for putting you off your chia meal. In other foods, I don’t notice any taste whatsoever. Dry, hydrated, or cooked, their nutritional value remains the same, which is awesome.
