Moms – Stay Hydrated without Sugary Drinks
Greater Than makes hydration easy and tasty
Though I’m towards the ultimate end of my breastfeeding journey after 10 long years, I can look back with pride and a bit of hindsight knowledge. I, like many I know, have a difficult time staying properly hydrated.
This was especially tough while pregnant and breastfeeding. I even got sick while pregnant with my first and could keep nothing down. Not even water. I ended up hospitalized and was so dehydrated that they couldn’t take a proper blood sample because my blood was so thick from lack of fluids. I vowed, never again. If Greater Than had been around then, I feel it would have been much easier to stay hydrated.

Stay Hydrated Naturally
Usually, the go-to electrolyte drink of choice comes pre-bottled or as a powder. And when you compare the sugar content to soda, it’s shocking. It’s full of the stuff as well as dyes and other unpronounceable ingredients. Not all of those are bad, just complicated scientific names for things that might, or might not benefit us.
I love Greater Than Sports Drink. It’s tasty and has only 10 ingredients; all of which I know what they are and how to pronounce them.
Skip the Sugar
I’m a sugar addict. I admit it. But I do my best to minimize extra sugars in my diet. When I’m sick, I cannot drink water. I’m just getting over a sinus infection and when I drink water, all it does it add to mucus production. I get stuffier and I’m still thirsty. I have to have electrolytes so my body actually uses the fluids to hydrate me.
Greater Than does that without any added sugar. It’s coconut water and fruit juices. It does use monk fruit juice to add some sweetness. My Orange Mango flavor even uses natural beta-carotene for color. And we all know that is also good for you.
Check the Numbers
Did you know a 6-month old baby can drink up to a quart of breastmilk per day? And breastmilk is 90%. Water from mom’s body. This is why it is so difficult to stay hydrated while breastfeeding. When they say the baby is sucking you dry, it’s true. But it’s still worth it, right? We just have to be able to fully replenish what we lose. And the best way to do that is with electrolytes. It’s great to drink water too, and I know I drank a TON every day. But it never felt like it was enough.
Electrolytes Help Restore Balance
Greater Than’s website says, “…plain water is not sufficient for restoring both bodily hydration and the nutrients and energy being lost while creating and supplying breast milk for their baby.” I feel that electrolytes give me more energy and help my body better use the water it takes in. That’s because it literally restores the balance of minerals your body needs.
It’s great to drink after a nursing session, or even after pumping, for a great pick-me-up to stay hydrated. This yummy Orange Mango drink also has 2-3 times the electrolytes a typical sports drink does. And again, NO added sugar! Plus, there are four other flavors, like watermelon, or even chocolate, to appease any taste.
Better for Mom and Baby
WIth typical sports drinks, there are all kinds of things you are consuming. And while breastfeeding, I’m paranoid about what I can pass on to my child. Not to mention all the refined sugars and dyes. I’m just not comfortable with it, but I can’t stay hydrated without those electrolytes.
That why I’m loving these Greater Than drinks. Only 7-10g of natural sugars, 9-12g carbs (not including the added dietary fiber from the fruit), coconut water, filtered water, fruit juices, sea salt, and natural flavors and colors such as the beta-carotene in my Orange mango drink. That’s it! Now I have no problem drinking that myself, even if some of that gets passed onto my child.
Being a Mom is Tough
Why would I want to add to my worry and stress on top of all the other things motherhood challenges me with? I want to stay healthy to be able to take care of my child. I want what I pass onto my child to be healthy. I’m happy this sports drink provides that perfect balance between the two. Greater Than can really help me be my best, so I can take on motherhood in my best health, without compromising the health of my child.
