Powered by Mom Blog & family love to grill their food on the barbeque how about you?

Oh yes we sure do love to grill our food on the barbeque whenever we can. One of our latest adventures was to put a beef roast on the barbeque. We must admit that this family loves their beef! In fact when I was at a conference about a month ago one of the brands that was there was Canadian Beef. Talking at the conference with people from Canadian Beef and others reminded me that when my daughter was younger for the longest time she wouldn't eat any meat. We thought she was going to be a vegetarian which of course would be fine but as two parents who both like to eat steaks, hamburgers, chicken and more we thought well that would be a huge adjustment and would require some creative cooking.

We of course kept trying as she was a picky eater overall and one day we bought some very good steaks, I mean really good porterhouse steaks, a treat for us. We thought okay these are some tender steaks she should be able to chew these no problem let's see if she likes it. Well not only did she like it she LOVED it! After that moment it became a joke with us that our daughter would only eat the best cuts of steak, this kid had expensive taste. For the longest time (and even sometimes now) if we want her to try something new with meat we just tell her it's steak to get her to try it as that's how much until this day our girl loves steak LOL. Sorry totally off track but I had to share that!

Now to the food below is our roast beef that we could on the bbq. As our roast didn't have much fat on it and we hadn't done a roast on the bbq before we were worried we might dry it out so I put some bacon on it to keep it moist. Here's what it looked like when I put it on the bbq, it was a few minutes later and already it was browning nicely. I had it wrapped in tinfoil as you can see but I also had it in an old baking pan so that the bottom wouldn't get burnt. We started the roast on about a medium flame and then turned it down low as we have a gas bbq.

Here's the end product of our roast and let me tell you it was moist and delicious and we used chopped up the bacon and put it on our potatoes (see below) and used a little bit with the juices to make gravy. If you want to make gravy you need to take the pan off the bbq right away before it evaporates. The bacon did not overpower the roast at all it added a nice flavor and kept it moist. We had a tasty medium to medium rare roast which did not even need the gravy so we used it the next day for roast beef sandwiches. We enjoyed this roast and the leftovers!

We also added to the bbq for this meal some rosemary garlic potatoes. They were nice and easy to make we just sliced the potatoes, added crushed garlic, rosemary to taste, salt & pepper and we sprayed some non stick spray on some tinfoil and put our potatoes on there. We then covered the potatoes with another layer of tinfoil as you can see below.

I have done this recipe several times on the bbq and the potatoes always taste sooooo good. Below is the finished product where the potatoes have a nice crispy layer on one side but are oh so soft and yummy on the inside. The flavors of the rosemary and garlic come through quite nicely.

Overall this meal is one of the easiest to do which is another reason I love cooking food on the barbeque! There are less pots and pans, in fact there was just the one pan from the roast and that was it, we had  a delicious meal and didn't heat up the house on a sunny day, who could ask for more?

  9. We never did a roast on the grill before - I quess we always worried the meat would get tough. The idea of putting the bacon on top should give it more flavor too , and who doesnt like bacon. We like to grill so this is meat and potatoes that we would make for our family . thanks

  10. I have yet to see any meat cooked on a grill that looks more delectable than this beef barbecue. I could eat just the meat and call that a meal. I know, however with children a more balanced meal is necessary.

  13. My family and I like to BBQ as often as possible. It's too hot to cook in the kitchen - unless absolutely necessary. The great thing about barbequing is that there is no end as to what all you can BBQ. It's not just meat...you can do Kabobs, Corn, so many different kinds of food, the list is endless. Thanks for the review.

  14. Everyone here LOVES Roast Beef - and I especially like the leftovers to make yummy French Dip sandwiches! My Honey-Hubby and I both happen to like beef our beef on the medium rare to rare side so I will keep that in mind when we make this wonderful recipe THIS WEEKEND!

I love using the bacon to flavor and keep the meat juicy - and then to dress the potatoes with and maybe most of all I love that you do all the cooking outdoors! This is especially important because we do NOT have any a/c!! Just a few fans that blow the hot air around. So I'm always looking for good ways to avoid turning the dang oven on!

O' and like Mrs.Blvins above asks - I too would love to know what cut of Beef you used and/or recommend!

    • hello there, a sirloin tip is what I used there but a decent roast will work just add more bacon to make it moist 🙂

  20. The roast & veggies look delish!!! I make sliced potatoes, onion, yellow squash, salt & pepper & garlic powder & Ms Dash on a big piece of heavy duty foil I rub some palm oil shortening all across and add the veggies. I then cut another slightly larger piece of foil & cover and crimp the bottom up and over the top foil to make a pouch & I cook on indirect heat for about 45 min to an hr on a gas grill. 🙂

Your roast and potatoes look delish. I hate to heat up the house during the summer using the oven but it never occurred to me to try a roast on the grill!
