Powered by Mom Blog is on a roll with Spring Cleaning!
You may have noticed that many of my posts this week have been about Spring and Spring cleaning because it's that time of year! We're cleaning house literally from getting rid of our bathroom renovation materials, to cleaning out old toys, games, clothes and more to hopefully cleaning the yard after all of that is done!
As I mentioned in another post the other day our city has a Spring clean up week where we put almost anything we don't want out to the curb and people can come and take what they want. Anything that's still left by a certain date the city takes it away, it's a great program and less items end up in the landfill as a result!
Wouldn't it be better yet though if we could make a bit of money from some of these items? We have tons of old toys, kids clothes, CDs and DVDs we no longer want and for some of these things especially the DVDs I don't want to put those out on the curb. We can try to sell them on Amazon or Ebay but I find between the shipping costs and fees it's not really worth it for me as I have done that a few times.
There are other alternatives to clean out such items like Craigslist and musicMagpie so I might give them a try as I want to finish this Spring Cleaning and get more organized. It's always a great feeling to get things cleaned up and organized. I always enjoy the results of my Spring clean up and I can't wait for it to be done this year!
What do you do for Spring Cleaning to be more green? Feel free to comment below.
Well, it took a planned trip for over a month for me to get moving but I cleaned every nook and cranny in my home. Threw out about 10 bags of worthless stuff and sent seven bags of goods to Goodwill. I'm done!
I am glad that my spring cleaning is over. Now I have scheduled a garage sale and hopefully get rid of stuff and make some money. We hardly had Spring weather...Summer is here and temperatures are in the 90s
DID NOT DO MUCH CLEANING -BUT DID FIND A FEW THINGS I HAVE BEEN WONDERING WHERE THEY WERE...
Ugh! Spring cleaning is my least favorite thing ever!! Lol
Spring always motivates me to get cleaning. I have lots of the kids things to go through, some to sell, but others I plan to simply donate as tried selling already and I seriously need to get rid of things.
Excellent ideas! Sometimes I think "who would ever want this?" but I'll bet I could find someone on Craigslist or Kijiji who would 🙂 It certainly feels good to declutter.
Please feel free to come clean my apartment lol. Since I am disabled my apartment doesn't get cleaned like it should. =(
Last week we did some serious spring cleaning now it is nice to kick back this weekend.
I am dreading spring cleaning!
I just started my spring cleaning. I enjoy the beautiful Floral scents that come thru my open windows every spring as I get to cleaning
i always like to clean my windows first,so i can let all that sunshine inside.
we already started our spring cleaning. We got rid of some furniture we no longer needed and cleaned our shed out. I am buying a deep cleaner for my kitchen and dinning room floors they drive me nuts.
I don't usually do spring cleaning inside anyway. I love to get out in my gardens and get stuff cleaned up. We also plant a huge veggie garden. I like the idea of the spring cleaning program your city does. Too bad more places didn't do something like that. I do go through my kids clothes to sort out stuff they can't wear and to get ready for short & t's for the summer. Thanks for posting this! 🙂
I needed some motivation and reading this has really helped me!! My only son is graduating in June and it is time to clean out his closet and get him ready for college!! I will be claning out all closets and calling Salvation Army for a Pick-up!!! Thanks!!!
I just started. I have never heard of musicmagpie. Have you used them? How does this work?
Seriously, I don't differentiate between the seasons...It seems like I am always cleaning. I think spring cleaning just means the kids are outside more so you have more time to invest!
I really need to do some spring cleaning, just finding the time & energy is a hard thing. I babysit for 4 of my grandchildren and have been busy house hunting for a son moving here. I also recently had a dog move in - one of my sons is living here for a while & he has a dog. He's a nice doggie, but he always wants attention and I am just not much of a pet person anymore, but I try. I need to sort through lots of things.
I so needed something like this to inspire me to start my Spring cleaning and organizing.
this is great for getting rid of stuff
I sale some items and donate other items. I hate throwing things away because I hate filling up the land fill. My husband and I are just beginning our spring cleaning and I can't wait to get things cleaned up.
i personnally like spring cleaning with all the help of everyone in the house i feel its a much needed clean out of all the things hidden and not used to be passed on to someone that could use them..thanks and get everything changed over from winter clothes to summer clothes and clean and wipe down everything in the house...
I really hate spring cleaning! Will you do mine for me? Lol 🙂
I wish I could Spring Clean the way you do. I have to do it in tiny amounts of time because of a back condition. I used to drive in and get done quickly.
I wish our city had a program like what you described. That is so much better than going to the landfill. Recently, I've been doing some spring cleaning and packing up items to be donated. There's so much to do!
I am going to donate some clothes to the Salvation Army, its kind of like being green cause I am reusing.
I am doing some Spring Cleaning and having a yard sale for some of the items! I always like getting extra money for things I do not want!
I'm not a huge fan of cleaning...but I DO like organizing; and we always try to find places to donate gently used items when we are cleaning out our closets (instead of throwing them out).
i use the new green cleaning products!
donate a lot of things instead of throwing them away helps being green

When I do heavy spring cleaning, it is always shocking how many cobwebs there are and dust behind furniture!
When I do Spring cleaning, I like to do a whole room a day (including walls, cleaning carpets, the whole deal). I use totes to put things in that go back to another room. I take these totes to every room I clean and when all my rooms are done I empty the totes back to the rooms they go into. And in one week my house is totally spotless and organized, providing everyone keeps the rooms cleaned that are already done.
If spring would actually come I might start some cleaning. We have a frost warning tonight.
We are using eco friendly cleaning supplies for the first time, they are great 🙂
we mostly donate, but i have used amazon for trade in on games and game systems
I sell all of my items that I dont want anymore online. Its called Mom Swap!! But I love the idea your city has with the Spring Clean Up Week!! Awesome idea.
my husband and I started cleaning my living room and I finished it. Takes me a few days to move on to the next room because I take everything I can handle out and clean behind it all including the walls, then organize it. Next is our middle room then kitchen... I might make it up stairs, though that might end up becoming 'fall' cleaning.

We have purged all the winter and put it away, dusted everything, organized things into bins so far and then going to work on the filing of bills and such. Great time of the year to do this all with a fresh spring breeze coming into the house.
We usually end up selling our stuff in garage sales, donating to libraries, Goodwill, other charities, churches and homeless shelters. The program your city has sounds like a great idea! I really need to get into that spring cleaning mode; somehow it hasn't really hit me yet. Maybe I'll go through all your posts and get some motivation! Thanks for sharing!
I live in Florida and what is considered Spring Cleaning I do in the fall.
Spring cleaning is one of those things that seems never ending. I have a system of starting from top to bottom. It seems to help.
our community needs to do this also. I'm not one to throw something away if its still good and someone else can use it.
that is an awesome ideal for your neighbors to get what they want, one person's junk is another persons treasure, me & my best friends usually has a couple of yard sales to get extra money to go to the beach, but I just don't really enjoy doing the yard sales, I usually give the good stuff away to family & friends
This year we will have to do the most cleaning we have ever done, we had a baby so we have to get rid of things to make space for all the baby's stuff and managment is installing new cabinets in our kitchen and restrooms and they have made a big mess in our apartment!
I started with windows as always and just clearing out closets old. Lithesome etc....
I need to get started with spring cleaning. I feel terribly unmotivated. I try to recycle items rather than throw them away after my use.
I seriously need to increase my efforts with spring cleaning. But I do try to tackle stuff I don't do much of during the rest of the year. And I like to go through my closet and the kids' clothes to sort things out for giving away.
I am cleaning out and donateing to a yardsale for relay for life.
I JUST NEED SOME-ONE TO DO IT FOR ME -I AM LAZY!!!!
I always use reusable rags as opposed to paper towels. I also have a "green cleaning kit" that I'm excited to open and start using!
I wish our community would do this. But I have a facebook account and people have made pages with selling items on there also. we call it on line garage sales. Both me and my daughter have bought stuff on these pages, and have had great experiences.
We do a lot of recycle and re use. Dropping of donations at value village or small consignment shops. We use green brand cleaning products for those deep cleans also.
I so need to do some deep spring cleaning. have ton of clothes to donate to the goodwill
thanks for sharing with us and tips for improvements, lol.
I am not one who "enjoys" cleaning, but there is something about Spring cleaning, that makes me feel so good.
We recycle a lot of things and have yard sales on occasion
