More Spring Cleaning!

Powered by Mom Blog is on a roll with Spring Cleaning!

You may have noticed that many of my posts this week have been about Spring and Spring cleaning because it's that time of year! We're cleaning house literally from getting rid of our bathroom renovation materials, to cleaning out old toys, games, clothes and more to hopefully cleaning the yard after all of that is done!

As I mentioned in another post the other day our city has a Spring clean up week where we put almost anything we don't want out to the curb and people can come and take what they want. Anything that's still left by a certain date the city takes it away, it's a great program and less items end up in the landfill as a result!

Wouldn't it be better yet though if we could make a bit of money from some of these items? We have tons of old toys, kids clothes, CDs and DVDs we no longer want and for some of these things especially the DVDs I don't want to put those out on the curb. We can try to sell them on Amazon or Ebay but I find between the shipping costs and fees it's not really worth it for me as I have done that a few times.

There are other alternatives to clean out such items like Craigslist and musicMagpie so I might give them a try as I want to finish this Spring Cleaning and get more organized. It's always a great feeling to get things cleaned up and organized. I always enjoy the results of my Spring clean up and I can't wait for it to be done this year!

What do you do for Spring Cleaning to be more green? Feel free to comment below.

  1. Well, it took a planned trip for over a month for me to get moving but I cleaned every nook and cranny in my home. Threw out about 10 bags of worthless stuff and sent seven bags of goods to Goodwill. I'm done!

  3. Spring always motivates me to get cleaning. I have lots of the kids things to go through, some to sell, but others I plan to simply donate as tried selling already and I seriously need to get rid of things.

  4. Excellent ideas! Sometimes I think "who would ever want this?" but I'll bet I could find someone on Craigslist or Kijiji who would 🙂 It certainly feels good to declutter.

  8. I don't usually do spring cleaning inside anyway. I love to get out in my gardens and get stuff cleaned up. We also plant a huge veggie garden. I like the idea of the spring cleaning program your city does. Too bad more places didn't do something like that. I do go through my kids clothes to sort out stuff they can't wear and to get ready for short & t's for the summer. Thanks for posting this! 🙂

  10. Seriously, I don't differentiate between the seasons...It seems like I am always cleaning. I think spring cleaning just means the kids are outside more so you have more time to invest!

  11. I really need to do some spring cleaning, just finding the time & energy is a hard thing. I babysit for 4 of my grandchildren and have been busy house hunting for a son moving here. I also recently had a dog move in - one of my sons is living here for a while & he has a dog. He's a nice doggie, but he always wants attention and I am just not much of a pet person anymore, but I try. I need to sort through lots of things.

  12. I sale some items and donate other items. I hate throwing things away because I hate filling up the land fill. My husband and I are just beginning our spring cleaning and I can't wait to get things cleaned up.

  15. I wish our city had a program like what you described. That is so much better than going to the landfill. Recently, I've been doing some spring cleaning and packing up items to be donated. There's so much to do!

  18. I'm not a huge fan of cleaning...but I DO like organizing; and we always try to find places to donate gently used items when we are cleaning out our closets (instead of throwing them out).

  19. When I do Spring cleaning, I like to do a whole room a day (including walls, cleaning carpets, the whole deal). I use totes to put things in that go back to another room. I take these totes to every room I clean and when all my rooms are done I empty the totes back to the rooms they go into. And in one week my house is totally spotless and organized, providing everyone keeps the rooms cleaned that are already done.

  21. We have purged all the winter and put it away, dusted everything, organized things into bins so far and then going to work on the filing of bills and such. Great time of the year to do this all with a fresh spring breeze coming into the house.

  22. We usually end up selling our stuff in garage sales, donating to libraries, Goodwill, other charities, churches and homeless shelters. The program your city has sounds like a great idea! I really need to get into that spring cleaning mode; somehow it hasn't really hit me yet. Maybe I'll go through all your posts and get some motivation! Thanks for sharing!

  25. that is an awesome ideal for your neighbors to get what they want, one person's junk is another persons treasure, me & my best friends usually has a couple of yard sales to get extra money to go to the beach, but I just don't really enjoy doing the yard sales, I usually give the good stuff away to family & friends

  28. I seriously need to increase my efforts with spring cleaning. But I do try to tackle stuff I don't do much of during the rest of the year. And I like to go through my closet and the kids' clothes to sort things out for giving away.
