More Summer Fun

This post may contain affiliate links. Read my disclosure policy.

You've all been telling me what you want to see more of and one of those things was to know more about the bloggers themselves, to share more about us. As a result I started our Summer "series" first one was what we adults have been doing you can see it HERE. Yard work not much fun but rewarding in the end.

Now it's time to see what the kids or in my case "kid" has been doing. Our Summer is not over until after the Labour day long weekend in case you were wondering. I had no idea so many states in the US got out so early and had to back into August. Here in Canada we don't go back until after Labour Day 🙂

Here's one of the activities my daughter did this Summer she joined a 1 week Glee camp where the small group of kids did some singing and dancing. Normally you can hear Sian a mile away but she wasn't her usual vocal self but still not shy as you  will see and hear. Listen for the one part you can finally hear her and she does have a very nice voice (no that's not just a proud mama talking she really does have a great voice :)) for singing. People have told us for years to get her into singing lessons with her voice. This year may be the year she does it. Watch for her wink wink at me LOL

I'd love to hear if you have kids what did they do this Summer? If you don't have kids tell us what you did or would have liked to have done? Me I would have loved to have gone away on vacation but that wasn't in the cards but at least we were productive 🙂

  1. My daughters are divas, too :). The older one participates in theatre. She has a beautiful voice. She's also a good makeup artist. She worked this summer, but will be back to plays in the fall and also helping a theatre director with a young cildrens's play. The younger one likes to make music videos. She was busy at camps all summer, one as a counselor in training and at another improving her tumbling skills. I cannot believe all the flips and things that she can do.

  2. Great post. My kid is 30 and no grandchildren to experience (yet?) these summers. When Dave was younger we didn't participate in organized summer activities, he preferred to spend time with my self-employed parents during the day. Dave would go to work with grandpa (he learned electrician skills). And when they weren't working: My dad has every kind of motorized item - including tractors, ATVs, go karts, worn-out cars that the grandchildren tinker with and tool around in during the snowless months - and snowmobiles to rev up and get ready for winter.

  3. That is so great that there are activities for kids where you live. We live in a small town and there really isn't much to do during the Summer. During the school year, though, there is a program called Campus Life J-House. The middle schoolers and High Schoolers get to go and get an after school snack and play video games or foosball. Then on two evenings (one for younger students and one for older students), they have a group night and play games to win prizes. It's a great pastime for the kids and usually in the summer or on spring break, they go to Mexico to help build houses. It's a very worthwhile experience.

  5. Wow, you daughter danced really well! We had a lot of water fun this summer--hanging out in the pool almost every night, visiting local water park on weekends and fishing when weather was not unbearably hot.

  6. We moved to our first new home with our 27 month old son Vincent. He loves having his own room.
He also spent time with my parents known to him as Nana & PopPop.
While hubby & I worked with money being so tight due to our move, my parents kept Vincent 5 days a week, even keeping him overnight 1x per week. They took him to the Zoo and a childrens hands-on museum. He had a blast according to my parents. He especially loved to finger paint !waiting for the pictures from my mom as we speak!

  7. My husband and I moved into a brand new home with our 27 month old son, from a small apartment! My son Vincent is totally enjoying our new home, is own room ( he shared ours with his crib in front of our bed, talk about cramped!). Since hubby & I both work, my mom & dad gave us a break on daycare by keeping him 5 days a week as well as 1 overnight per week. They took him to the zoo and also to a hands on children's museum! He loves spending time with Nana & PopPop!

  8. Great story --- I don't have kids but have kids around all the time. They mostly played Xbox but we were able to get them out to play a lot too.

  9. Glee camp...what a great idea. I wonder which child was yours...just kidding...she's a cutie. I love that they did older songs too...looked like your daughter is a natural.
I had a baby boy at the start of the summer so we didn't get to go on vacation this year...he'll definitely be big enough next year.

  11. I had my oldest granddaughter here for a couple of weeks and we :::deep breath::: went to the zoo, rode a camel, went to the sprinkler park, saw "Brave," shopped at The Disney Store, had dessert at The Cheesecake Factory, went to Incredible Pizza twice, fed the ducks at the lake and went to the library. In other words, we had a blast!

  16. My kids went to basketball and volleyball camp. We did a few things at home like going to the circus, Six Flags and the local waterpark. Going on a vacation wasn't in the cards for us this year either. Hopefully we can do a real vacation next year or the year after. Great video!

  17. It has been so hot this summer that I just wanted to stay in the A/C! I have gone to the movies and taken my little grandchildren a few times. I went to Iowa & visited family in May, not quite as hot yet. I am not for being out in the sun much. Now there are also lots of mosquitoes!

  20. I am a 57 year old grandma with 3 grandchildren. When I was a kid growing up we had a summer cottage. We were @ the lake from Memorial Day (end of May) until Labor Day where we ended the summer with a big Labor Day picnic with all my parents friends and our friends. I loved that. When I was raising my 4 sons they NEVER went back after Labor Day. They went back in August and often with football practice summer was over by mid August. Right now my grandson is here as his mom (a teacher) goes back to school tomorrow August 27th. This is actually late for all of us. My youngest son in college starts tomorrow too but we brought him there earlier this week to redo his fraternity room. We had the hottest summer in history so a lot of time was doing water activities

  24. Unfortunately my family didn't do much this summer, my kids spent most of their time at the library or on facebook playing facebook games, but my girls like to sing and dance and they enjoy making videos for their youtube page.

Yeah, around here we go back to school really early. The kids just started this week, though I remember when I was in school we went back even earlier, around Aug 12th or so.

  26. I bet Glee clubs all around the world starting popping up after the show became a hit! I work at a college and learned that they started one last year (suprisingly it's mainly men!).

  27. I'd say she was the best dancer in the group, singing and dancing lessons I would recommend. Didn't do much this summer. Was feeling quiet ill, so didn't have the energy to do stuff, but I have a long list and a lot of it is painting. Maybe I'll get to some of it before the winter sets in.

Here in the States, the school year used to start around Labor Day and end sometime in June. It's been a hard adjustment with my kids. Not for them, they haven't know any other way...but it's hard on my husband and me! *lol*

My boys (14 and 15) stretched their relaxed summer bedtimes to the limit. My daughter added Webkinz and Schleich animal figurines to her obsession list...right alongside the dinosaurs!

  31. It looks like she had a lot of fun. I wish we had something like that close to where I live. We started school on August 8 so she is lucky that she hasn't started yet. I hope she continues doing things like this. It will definitely be good for her.

  33. That was really cute! I enjoyed watching that video! Thanks for sharing. 😉 It almost made me cry because my youngest son didn't join the usual program he does each summer. Out community has a summer parks program for the entire summer with tons of great activities and short trips etc. but this year, someone was bullying him and he refused to go back...We reported it and they offered for him to join a different group but that was it for him, he just wouldn't go after that. Every summer he would have a wonderful time but for most of this one, he has played on his laptop instead which I didn't like much...He has gone fishing and stayed with grandpa a few days but other than that, not much. ;-(

    • Thanks Jeannette and I"m so sorry to hear that about your son and the bullying! how awful that's so hard for kids. Hopefully next year will be better!

Your daughter is a cutie 🙂 I have no kids but I am a military wife and we are stationed in England so I am having the experiences of my life...been to France, Ireland, Stonehenge and Bath this summer...and about to head to Belgium in a few weeks...really the time of my life I am so appreciative!

  37. So adorable!! Those are memories your daughter is going to cherish for the rest of her life. Our summer was extremely mellow due to some chronic health issues, but I was able to watch my 7 y/o daughter blossom into such a kind and gracious young lady, despite her not getting much of a chance to do all that many traditional summertime activities this year. I could not be any more thankful to God for the blessing of my baby.

  48. Awe she looks like she had TONS of fun. My daughter also loves to sing her little heart out. Especially during the bath time. I should look into any camps where I live and maybe send my daughter to one and see how she likes it. I know her school as an all school musical that the kids do at the end of the year and she really enjoys that so maybe some sort of camp will help push her more in her talented ways. =)

    • camps are great for that for sure Rose and yep my daughter loved it. We're going to look into more Fine Arts camps as she got a good set of vocals on her 🙂
