So how do you think we liked it? Hyatt McCormick Place Chicago - To stay or not to stay?

A room with a view - this is the view I had from my room at Hyatt McCormick Place

As some of you know I was in Chicago at the end of July for a big social media conference, for this mom it was THE social media conference so I was super hyped about going. However I wasn't overly thrilled with the fact that the conference was going to be in Chicago. Why you may ask? Well I did visit the city in 2010 in fact it was almost the exact same time of year, end of July and I did not enjoy the humidity in 2010.

Nope this west coast girl does not enjoy the kind of humidity that knocks you on your butt that I would be drenched walking over from my hotel at that time on the Magnificent Mile just next door to the mall. As well I have to admit that for my 2010 trip it was also a conference but a very different one as I was still working for a university at the time and apparently I was only 1 of 2 people (as far as I know) from Canada attending this event. I met the "other" Canadian from the university I used to work at funnily enough the day I was leaving. For that trip I didn't really have any time to do any sight seeing as well so that I'm sure also contributed to the trip not being one of my favorites.

I'm soooo very happy to say that this trip was the complete opposite, it was nothing short of amazing! I stepped out of O'Hare airport (with another Canadian gal by the way whom I'd met at home a few months before at a local conference) and was prepare to be hit with the humidity. What a pleasant surprise  there was a nice breeze, it was bright out but cool and well just pleasant. It reminded me of a Spring day at home and no noticeable humidity.

Then my chariot arrived in the form of two of my best blogging buddies whom I've worked with from almost two years but we had not yet met in person until then. They were exactly like they are online but even nicer and it how wonderful to be picked up at the airport by friends.

Off we went including my plane pal to our hotel the Hyatt McCormick Place. My fellow Canadian and I were the ones staying there whereas my two bloggy buddies were staying at another hotel on the Magnificent Mile which was the "host hotel" for the conference. However I selected the Hyatt McCormick Place for a few reasons, one of them being that it was actually attached to McCormick Place Conference Center where the expo hall and conference activities were being held. I thought it makes more sense to be so close to the official conference activities. Let me tell you I was very happy that I made this choice and it wasn't only the great prices that drew me in it was service and location, location, location.

Albeit the Hyatt is not on the Magnificent Mile and does not have shopping within walking distant BUT if you're attending a conference there it is the place to be. You want to be able to go back to your room, drop things off, take a break, change and more trust me these and more will happen as it did for us. It also did not take very long by cab to go to the Mag Mile, which my roomie (she had her own adjoining room) Tina from Baby Costcutters (check out her room & what she had to say HERE) and I did frequently to go to various events and meet up with our friends. Most times the taxis cost us $7 which we split so being from a big city where I've never paid less than $20 for a taxicab I was thrilled! Last but not least when I compared the regular rooms to where our friends were staying and even the hotel I stayed in back in 2010 (it was a nice hotel, high end) the rooms at the Hyatt are more spacious by far.

Of course I was spoiled and I had a suite which was AMAZING! If you can get it a suite it's well worth it and it can quite comfortably sleep four with lots of room, my walk in closet in my suite is bigger than any closet I have at home, lots of seating area so all my friends were coming to my room to visit which was wonderful as who knows when I will get to see them again!

Check out some of the pictures of my room including the one above of course 🙂 and the lovely views from the suites too! Yes I am one of those weird people who takes picture of her hotel rooms as I want to remember it all and what I liked about where I stayed 🙂

I know I've gone on quite a bit about the rooms but having a suite to myself was quite luxurious and allowed for business entertaining which was perfect. I should mention that I also ate in the restaurant at the Hyatt as well more than once for breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed it. They have a good buffet that is kept fresh all morning, I know as we did come at different times of the morning. Also the Hyatt does have packages such as the Total Freedom Package where you could get breakfast and parking included which is a big deal. My friends paid $50/day on the Magnificent Mile for parking! So to finally answer my question to stay or not to stay the answer is a big YES I would most certainly stay at the Hyatt McCormick again even if I wasn't going to a conference as I know for the same price or less I will get a much bigger room at a hotel with great service and newly renovated rooms to boot!

You should check out their Facebook Page and sometimes they advertise some great deals on Facebook!

Thanks Hyatt McCormick Place, Chicago for a great stay!

  2. I've only been one time to Chiago, love the view you had. I went to a business conference for Equity Office so of course we stayed at the hotel Sam Zell owned (lol) but we didn't have a view, the rooms were nice but I just love a view. It makes the room feel open and you can oversee part of the city you're visiting. Thanks for your review, I will add this to my list of tips of places to stay when traveling. Who knows I may be up that way soon.

  3. I'm happy to hear that the weather was nicer for you this time. I would not care much for the humidity either. It looks like you had a nice room and excellent view. It must have been a fun experience to meet up with other bloggers that you'd never seen in person before 🙂 I personally don't think I'd care to visit Chicago, but if I ever find myself to be there, I will certainly consider staying at the Hyatt McCormick Place! Thanks for sharing your photo's 🙂

  6. That's a great room. Looks and sounds like you had a blast. My daughter went to Chicago a couple months ago for work but she didn't get to do any sight seeing. I'll have to tell her to check this place out if she ever goes again. Thank you for sharing your fun trip. 🙂

  10. The room is super cute, and looks comfier than most hotels I've stayed in. Plus, I'm glad it wasn't humid! Humidity can honestly make or break a trip. Who wants to think about swimming through the sticky air rather than enjoying the trip?
