Another fun and tasty part of these orange chocolate chip cake mix cookies is that you can add ingredients to it to get variations to these delicious cookies. Chopped nuts are always a favorite. Another fun alternative especially for chocolate lovers is to use a chocolate cake mix! Oh my, it brings it to a whole new chococatel-y goodness level.
You don’t have to have just chocolate chips, think chopped pecans, chopped walnuts and more! You can also change the type of chocolate chips and not use chocolate at all. There are butterscotch chips, Skor pieces and more. White chocolate chips also make for a richer cookie. I personally love dark chocolate so tend to do that but I love the possibilities!
One thing to keep in mind which applies to not only this recipe but all recipes is that everyone’s oven is different. Temperatures can vary, even the elevation of where you live can affect how something cookies in the oven. So of course so with any recipe you need to check on the food in the oven and don’t just go by the cook times.
For these cookies you need to watch them very closely as they bake. Don’t walk away and leave them. They bake quickly and you want to take them out just before they look done and let them stay on the cookie sheet for a couple of minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
