Did you know that the kitchen is one of the most used rooms in your home. Although people may spend time in other rooms, the kitchen is where everyone congregates to sit down for a meal or get some food to take to their space in the home. More often than not, in homes where there are school age children and older children as well, they are often in two much of a rush to get back to their television show or gaming system to bother putting anything back where it belongs. As a result, the kitchen area can become disorganized very quickly. Following the tips below will help you to keep your kitchen somewhat organized.

Organizational Tips for the Kitchen

  1. Extra Shelving- Make sure that you have ample space to stock your pantry items. Store every day necessities like peanut butter, sugar, pancake mix, etc. in your kitchen cupboards. Place canned soups, canned legumes, and canned vegetables in a spare pantry cupboard. These items are not accessed on a daily basis, therefore there will be less arranging to do if the items are separated from products that you use daily.
  2. Fill the Dishwasher- Fill the dishwasher with your daily dishes as night. This way you can sleep while your dishes are being washed. In the morning, put away the clean dishes and repeat the process. Teach others that the dishes must be scraped clean, rinsed, and rubbed slightly with a scouring pad to prevent food from sticking to the dish. This will save you some extra steps to ensure that they are ready for the dishwasher whenever you want to place them in there.
  3. Rotate Your Canned Goods- In order to ensure that your canned food items are not going to be used after their expiry date, make sure to rotate them on the shelf. Keep the ones that are about to expire soon to the front of the cupboard. This way they will be used up before their expiry date rolls around. Kids are too busy to manoeuver through cans. They are creatures of habit and will grab the ones that are in their immediate range.

Following the above tips will help you to unclutter your kitchen and leave you with some time to enjoy yourself. Teaching your children the above tips will also save you some of the trouble of having to do it yourself. What organizational tips for the kitchen you do have? 3. Whoever designed our kitchen just wasn't thinking it through! Nothing is in a truly convenient spot. Would love to change it, but we rent!

  4. I need more shelves and I need to rotate my Canned goods because I tend to use the recent canned goods before I should. I always fill the dishwasher and have it filled and ready to go. I keep up on the dishes!

  6. I have too many things. We have a pantry which helps and lots of space but it still seems to get cluttered on the counters. I try to routinely work on it and that is what needs to be done for the cycle keeps going!

  7. I hung a shoe tree on the back of my pantry door and use it to store all of my cleaning products. That, in turn, opened up some storage space under the kitchen sink and that's where I keep all of my small appliances now (like my slow cooker and steamer), so they're no longer cluttering up my kitchen counter.

Thanks for the reminder about rotating the canned goods. Putting it on my to do list.

  8. I live in an apt so my kitchen is small and I don't have much cupboard space. As soon as I do my spring cleaning and get rid of stuff I don't use I'll have a lot more space to put cans in. I have hardly any counter space so these are some great tips 🙂
