Refresh and Update Your Wardrobe at Value Village
If you’re on a budget or just like to save, you too can refresh and update your wardrobe at Value Village
I consider myself to be moderately thrifty. I love coming across great deals on the things that my family needs, whether it be household items, groceries or even clothes. With a teenage girl in the house who seems to be growing faster than a weed, finding deals on clothes is especially important these days. Of course, it’s always nice to find clothes for myself and my husband too, but if you have a teenager or two in your midst, then you know all about the struggle of catering to their ever-changing clothing needs. Thankfully I can find her clothes in styles she loves that don’t cost us crazy retail prices. Better yet, I can find clothes for the whole family and more at Value Village.
So many aisles of clothing you are bound to find something.
They know the importance of being able to find the best deals on items housed in their locations. Value Village is a for-profit, global thrift retailer that offers their customers great quality, gently used clothing, accessories, and household goods. Thankfully for my family, we happen to live within a short distance of two different Value Village locations, and I often take advantage of this by popping in from time to time to scope out their latest arrivals. Each time I make the journey into one of the locations available to me, I treat it like a treasure hunt: you’ll never know what you’ll uncover from day to day as their stock changes!
I saw this top and it was in perfect condition. It was a steal of a deal so of course I had to snag it 🙂
Not only can you shop the latest deals and hunt for hidden treasures, but you can also donate your gently used items to help benefit others, which is what we did on our last visit in to do a little “refreshing” of our wardrobes. The fun thing about donating your gently used clothing, housing goods, etc. to Value Village is that giving back also earns you a Hero Card, which allows you to save up to an additional 30% off in-store prices. Who doesn’t love saving on already unbeatable prices?
With winter a thing of the past and summer on the horizon, my family and I headed to our favourite Value Village location to refresh our old wardrobes and find a few new outfits for our summer itinerary. We have a cruise coming up soon as well as the rest of summer vacation away from school, so when my daughter found the perfect dress and matching shoes, she was ecstatic. Of course, Dad found a stack of new shorts and jackets while I made out like a bandit with a few unique knick knacks for the house as well as some new tops and skirts that I planned on utilizing for business meetings as well as the upcoming family activities we have planned for the summer break. This trip turned out to be quite the adventure for my family, and we loved every minute of it.
Even though this is too small for my daughter I couldn’t help but look at the adorable little girl’s dresses like this one!
The prices at Value Village are fantastic, and you’d never tell by looking at the clothing we bought that it wasn’t brand new. This is a huge plus because who doesn’t like being able to buy gently used clothing at rock-bottom prices? Especially when you have a teenager who is still growing and is always in need of a new wardrobe. The bottom line about Value Village is that they truly have something for everyone and even things for your home. In fact, I’m always finding useful items like decorating treasures, photo props and more!
I do find it helps to have a plan when you want to refresh and update your wardrobe to maximize your outfit choices and your budget. So I’m sharing my favourite tips to get the most out of treasure hunting at Value Village, so you too can enjoy the experience of an updated wardrobe.
- Look at what you love to wear in your current wardrobe. Select a couple of pieces that will go with everything, colour-wise, that can be used for another season. I selected some of my favourite skirts, lighter tops and capris. I did the same for my hubby and daughter.
- Look for items at Value Village that can be coordinated with those favourite items. For example, my two favourite skirts is the are both pencil skirts one with white dots and one with black dots. I first looked for tank tops to go with them, knowing they would be perfect for summer, but I could also add a business jacket, shrug or light wrap to go with it depending on the occasion. In my case, those tank tops I first selected were black and white; they literally could be worn with almost anything else in my wardrobe.
- Look for some fun pieces that have the colours of the season — whichever ones you like. For summer you have such a wide variety of colours to go with, from pinks to purples to yellows to oranges, almost anything goes, and a bright or soft colour just adds a bit of oomph to your wardrobe. I found a lovely light pink top that is just so light and summer-looking; it was perfect along with a bright pink wrap. They spoke of summer to me. With just those items alone, I could create at least half a dozen new outfits.
Here’s the light pink top I mentioned 🙂
- Just get it. My favourite tip is not as thrifty, but then if you’re shopping at Value Village you’re going to save money anyways. If you find an item that you just can’t stop looking at or imagining yourself wearing, just get it. How it makes you feel is just as important as what you get for your wardrobe. For my daughter it was the beautiful summer dress that we got; you can see it in the photo below, and I’m sure you’ll see why she fell in love with it. It was such a fabulous deal. I still can’t believe we found it.
Those are some of my favourite tips and that’s just for clothes; don’t get me started on how I like to shop for household items and my taste for photo props. By the way, I of course picked up some decorations and, full confession, I also bought some new reading material, as I still love to read from an actual book. Needless to say, I had a ton of fun shopping and didn’t go away feeling guilty because we got everything for such fabulous prices and even got that additional 20% off from our Hero Card. Better still, the next time we go to Value Village we’re going to save an additional 30% because they gave us a rewards card for our shopping that day. You seriously can’t lose at Value Village, and you’ve got lots to gain – in our case bags and bags of stuff to gain.
Hubby picked up some new shorts for summer, a few jackets and some hoodies. It’s hard to catch him to get a photo so this is the only one I got with one of his new jackets that he can wear on days he needs a light jacket.
Check out your local Value Village or go to more than one like I do; you’ll be amazed at the treasures you find.
After all our shopping we received these cards for 30% off when we go shopping the next time!
