As soon as we feel a cold coming on, we start on zinc gluconate lozenges (Cold-Eeze is the name brand, but we buy it in a generic at Walmart) every 2 hrs. for 24 hrs., even if that means setting an alarm to do it at night. They dissolve under the tongue and don’t taste great, but OK, and they also help in the way a cough drop would. There are some studies behind it that you can sometimes prevent the cold from coming on, but if you get it, it will be milder and quite a bit shorter in duration. I already knew it from a dr. I worked w/ (I was an RN for many yrs.) and later heard Dr. Oz also recommend it. We’ve been doing it for almost 20 yrs.
