I know I shared this link on the smaller fire safe giveaway that Sentry Safe sponsored with Powered by Mom but given everything that has happened since then with destruction and more caused by Hurricane Sandy I thought it was time to share this link again. Sentry Safe has "Safe in the Storm" page on their site with lots of useful information, checklists and more to keep yourselves safer in such storms. Hopefully people have downloaded them before but just in case it doesn't hurt to have it handy go to THIS PAGE to download.

The Sentry Big Bolts Fire Safe is an impressive safe, it's heavy duty with extra big bolts as the name implies. I was pleased by the quality of the safe and how easy it was to figure out how to use it. It's a combination which is provided to you on the booklet you receive with the safe. So a word of caution before I forget make sure to keep that booklet somewhere secure as well AND have your combination memorized and listed in one other place that only you know. This way if you ever lose the booklet of course you'll still have access to your combination in case you forget what it is.

At first I was worried that I would have to wait until my husband got home to help me move the Big Bolts Fire Safe to where I wanted it located. That was not the case, as we do not have carpet this 90lb safe was easy for me to move. It easily slid along the floor to the spot where I wanted it, nice. Now you may think well great that means someone can walk off with it. Of course not as I mentioned it is 90lbs but you can also bolt this baby to the floor and then it's not going anywhere. We haven't done that yet we're still thinking about it but it's an option we're leaning towards.

I love that the Big Bolts Fire Safe will hold everything we need it to that we would be devastated if we lost them. I'll be putting valuables in there that are irreplaceable such as some special keepsakes from my mom, the footprint impression from my daughter when she was born, our wedding pictures that we have yet to scan to digital and so many more things. We of course have also place items such as passports & birth certificates so that if we were ever devastated by a fire, flood or break-in at least we wouldn't have the added burden of having to replace important documents. I love that it has the hooks for keys and other items like that to make it easier to find them very handy indeed!

Here are some of the features of this fantastic safe!

  • ETL verified 15 ft. Drop Test
  • ETL verified for 1 hour fire protection of CDs and DVDs up to 1700° F
  • ETL verified for water-resistance in up to 8" of water for up to 24 hours
  • Lifetime after-fire replacement guarantee
  • UL Classified 1-hour proven fire protection
  • ETL Verified to pass a 15 foot/4.5 meter drop test to ensure contents remain intact and locked upon impact
  • Mechanical combination lock

Overall the Sentry Big Bolts Fire Safe gets a 5 out of 5 stars from Powered by Mom for quality, safety and providing us with peace of mind. The only option I would have liked to have that it doesn't is to be able to change the combination to whatever I wanted but that's minor in the grand scheme of things.

Here's your chance to be safe for the holidays and beyond enter to win a Big Bolts safe of your own and make sure to share with others and encourage them to think about how to keep their valuables and irreplaceable items safe!

Make sure to only claim the entries you've followed through on as failure to do so will result in all entries being forfeited. We do verify the entries of winner's draw. Thanks for keeping it fair to all!

  1. Believe me when I say TO LOCK the safe also once your items are in it. I had about $2500 in serious items stolen from my husbands gun safe not knowing he didnt lock it. It was a horrible feeling not having any anymore and the worse was knowing they was out on the street and could be used in one bad way which scared me to death. Hard lesson learned.

  2. we live in the mountains, and having a safe is the only way to go. If anyone breaks in, they wouldn't be able to get the valuables.

  3. It's important because for any emergencies you won't have to search the whole house for those important papers you can just go to the safe.

  5. I think it is important to have a safe to keep precious items safe. My daughter is always hiding my stuff thinking they are toys. I would use this safe to store a bracelet that my mom left me before she passed away. It is important to me and I would love to keep it protected.

  10. It helps keep guests and burglars from stealing important stuff such as money, passport, birth certificate, etc.. It also protects your stuff in the event of like a fire or flood. Those are all very important things. And it keeps you from losing things like important papers.

  11. OMG! Having a fire proof safe is very important! You keep your private paperwork, jewelrey, passport, insurance photos, etc, in that safe! What good is a safe that isn't fire proof? Anything is better than nothing at all, but fire is a leading cause of losses.

  12. To keep sensitive items and documents in a safe place, for one--you will always know where they are. Two--they are safe, whether it be from prying eyes or just from damage.

  13. Because there are so many important things that can not be replaced, and this is perfect for that. Photos that can not be destroyed in a fire or flood. All your very important papers. Sentimental items that can not be replaced. And so on. Thanks for the opportunity. I SO COULD USE THIS NOW!!!!

  15. We had a major fire in our home whan I was 6yrs old & lost EVERYTHING... including the house, due to extensive damage, so I know all too well about the importance of protecting your precious items; especially with children. I have no photos of myself from when I was an infant or a toddler. I think perhaps 3 or 4 exist out there somewhere with older family members. You can never be too careful with things that are important to you & quite frequently, they have no monitary value at all.... but the steepest of value at heart! Protect your goods, you'll thank yourself in the event of a catastrophe (or family members with sticky fingers! lol).

  26. A safe is important because it protects your most precious information and can do so in most circumstances. Example, flood, fire, burglary, etc. Our identity is very important and there are many people out there who are trying to take it. We need to protect ourselves as much as possible.

  42. It helps to preserve your important documents, prevents theft, and simply keeps them in one easy to find spot, so you're not searching for them every time you need something. Safes do just that, they keep things safe.

  43. It's important to have a safe to keep irreplaceable pictures, papers, keys, keepsakes etc in, in case of fire or flood. So many things that people don't think about keeping in one place that can be grabbed in case of am emergency....and even if they do, there are times that they are so rattled that it's not one of the things they think about grabbing when in a rush to get out the door. With a fire/water proof safe, they can come back after the emergency is over and find their belongings that were stored in the safe still intact.
