Powered by Mom is starting to do some Spring Cleaning & More!
Yes we are doing some big time Spring cleaning around here and it couldn’t have come at a better time. We’re almost finished with a bathroom renovation and as you can imagine we have lots of garbage and recycleable items as a result of the renovation alone. Fortunately for us we have in our city what they call Spring Clean Up week. This means we can put certain things out (there’s a list of what is and is not allowed) at the beginning of the week which for us is this week! We put them on the curb and people can take what they want and believe me people find lots of things. During Spring Clean Up week I always see tons of cars driving around our usually quiet neighborhood to scope out what’s to be had.
What people don’t take the city will clean up by the end of the week but you’d be surprised at how little is left which is wonderful as it means things that might have ended up in the landfill at the point is being reused, fixed up etc..
We’re getting rid of the renovation stuff, putting out things that we can’t use anymore but someone might be able to use or fix etc.. That’s just the inside of the house at this point. After that will come cleaning up the gardens, in fact I should have started already but the weather has been off between rain storms, wind storms knocking out power etc… If had planted seedlings and new plants they might have been ruined by a recent wind storm we had anyways so I don’t feel too guilty yet..
I do want to start by the end of April on the outside though as I love it when the plants start to bloom and all those colors start to burst onto the scene. We have to clean our walkways and cemented patio areas that have paving stone, not quite as fancy as the one in the picture above, in fact no where near as nice as the picture. I put the picture there because I really like this look and would eventually love our front walkway to be done something like that, fortunately ours is not so big 🙂
What do you do for Spring Cleaning? Feel free to share!

I am still doing Spring cleaning and it is June. I have to hurry and get it done. I have cleaned out the closets and done the refrigerators but what is next is cleaning behind all the chairs and vacuuming missed spots. I think my Spring Cleaning is going to turn into Summer Cleaning!

We have started inside and out. Been a little slow going due to my son getting married 5/11. However I have cleaned out my front flower beds. I am employed as a gardener, so I have “spring cleaned” others gardens. 🙂 Love the paved walk/drive in pic. When we move, hopefully soon, I would like to do something like this for atleast walkway.

Oh how I wish I could afford to just throw everything in the trash and buy new things for spring cleaning! This house is old, small, and is beginning to remind me of Hoarders!
Sue Hull says
Luckily I live in a 1 bdrm apt. I still have to clean out all my kitchen cupboards to donate what I don’t use to the shelter for women and children. I have my bdrm closet that I haven’t cleaned out in 5 yrs. When my daughter moved out 5 yrs ago I moved to a smaller apt but for some reason I still have some of her stuff. That’s going to change once I get that closet clean. She gets to help me do all this b/c of back issues and pain I can’t do it myself. Her and her fiance are going to be taking things out,of course they don’t know that yet. LOL! I pay her to help so it’s good for both of us. 🙂

Spring cleaning here means renovation.Which you’re doing yourself! My husband is taking out walls to put insulation in. Then he’s going to re build new walls. He’s driving me nuts!!

that’s great that you allow people to have the leftover renovation materials.

Getting rid of the renovation stuff is one of my least favorite things. It seems neverending.

All thats left is to steam clean the carpet..We got rid of all the clothes we don’t wear ..Put it in a clothes pickup container for the needy. I never throw them away. People could use them & I gladly donate them..my husband made a handbag rack for me so I could hang up all my purses and totes. Love it..We have things all organized in our room now..Steam clean the carpet and on to the next room.. :0)~~~

I’m finally putting up winter things, giving the whole house a good scrubbing, and starting my garden. I love the idea of a citywide spring clean giveaway, and wish mine would adopt something like it!
Heather Bridson says
I love the interlocking pavers. I want to do something to our yard this year, but I’m not sure what I want to do yet. These would make a really sweet winding garden path…
Patrice P. says
I miss owning a home this time of the year, not that my apartment doesn’t need cleaning!! LOL….I miss getting the outdoor landscaping ready for the Seasons to come most of all!
Deb Dorrington says
I clean out the closets, putting away the winter clothing and if I have not worn a piece of clothing during the winter it goes to the giveaway pile. We wash windows, clean carpets and this year we are doing some painting.
Mikki Cross says
I wish we had something like that around here. My neighborhood doesn’t have a particular recycle day and anything big, like a broken tv, we have to call the trash company to make a special pick-up and we can’t leave it out till the day they say they’re coming.
lisa says
Our area has one day a year where we can put out anything and they will pick it up. I know what you mean about the traffic. I get so angry. People should be ashamed to go rooting through peoples trash.
Jennifer Mae Hiles says
We have a Spring clean up day where I live also. Except, they don’t come to our house, we have to take it to the Fire Hall but they accept just about anything from burn barrels to old washing machines. It always feels to to get rid of the junk!
Denise Smith says
i am going to start doing my spring cleaning soon
Donna Evans says
Great tips and we recyle every week but every week if you have something that is useful if you put it by the road usually someone who can use them will pick them up

Funny – we have the same thing in our city: if you don’t want something any more just put it our on your yard. If it is even remotely reusable or recyclable someone will take it and it won’t go to landfill. hen we downsized from a house to condo we had tons of books we didn’t need and each time I put a box of them on the edge of the yard they were gone by the time I brought the next one out. Nice thing is, we live near a high school and the kids were taking them as they walked home from school. I like to think that they were actually reading them!
